Ok this isn't a celebrity death match or anything. Just curious. I am getting a bit confused on how biased both sides are.
Myself, I enjoy both, and to be honest, believe there is no difference in the quality in the game by choosing either genders
So I have been seeing many people saying
a) FemShep has better voice acting
IMO: No. There is no superior in either. The voice acting, in fact, could be done a bit better by both actor/actresses
B) MaleShep is more badass
IMO: Again, same answer. Both have their qualities and both can be badass renegades.
c) MaleShep is in more marketing, thus he's canon
IMO: Yes thats true, he is in all the marketing but hopefully that will change. Doesn't make HIM canon
d) FemShep and Liara have a better relationship
IMO: Though very hot, semi lesbian scene, I do believe we can see Liara with ManShep just as easily as SheShep
Anyway I am sure I am missing things, but is there a concensus? Do some fans really see either gender as superior in the game? I find it hard to believe unless you are just completely biased, as seen in the Facebook youtube vid on the Mass Effect 2 page
Just saying

Some see femshep as superior. Some see maleshep.

This thread won't end well.

Me, personally, I feel that femshep does a few paragon lines better, but maleshep is a superior renegade.

Both VO's could do better. Femshep would be a thousand times better imo if she dropped the huskiness in her shep voice. It sounds unnatural.

Might not end well... but I see no comparison. Except one has an extra X chromosome

This.

Hate to crush your spirit, OP, but these threads never, and I mean never, end well.

It's like a friggin' hour glass. When the sand runs out, just turn it over and start another thread.

The mods and Devs typically dont like Vs threads so I expect it to be locked fairly soon.

Its personal preference at the end of the day. Each has their own merits and everyone has their own opinion as to which they like more.

I have seen --and in the past admittedly contributed to-- idiocy on both sides. I share your viewpoint, OP and sympathize with your frustration.

All I see on these threads though is all these points mentioned
There is no mentioning of how both sheps are equal. Everyone who comments in the subject are almost all biased. Or at least a majority of them
Playing the game from with an indifferent attitude shows that the game is enjoyable as both genders

BeardShep is superior. MaleShep and FemShep cower beneath BeardSheps beardiness.

I just picked femshep first and I liked it. No deeper reasoning, no waxing-god-damn-philosophical.

Sorry to disappoint.

Both sheps have their strengths and weaknesses some feel they need to point that out more then others. It's like the ME vs ME2 argument both games have good and bad points some people feel those points are more or less then others.

THIS! This right here is right! But when people say that either genders are better.. is a silly stupid comment to make
Preference is right. But to say my opinion is better than your opinion is really what is going on here. It needs to stop and having that youtube video on the Mass Effect 2 facebook on how that young woman quoted as saying FemShep is superior was... a bit suprising. The fact that bioware posted it on their site, was a bit frustration
Though I am very much looking forward to a femshep trailer, stating that either gender is better... is sadPosted Image

This isn't really a vs thread, though, more like an anti-vs thread, really.

I have two male and two female Shepards myself, and I'm gonna have to agree with the OP that out of all the rabid foaming-at-the-mouth endless arguments that go on here, it's one of the more baffling ones. Also:

1) re voice acting - I actually found Hale's performance in ME2 disappointing. There's no doubt she's a great voice actress, but she really phoned this one in.

2) "canon" - if I have to read one more thread about this, I'm seriously going to blow a gasket. The whole point of the ME series is that there is no f**king canon but a set number of possible outcomes based on combinations of your choices. Not to mention 90% of the people who engage in this argument don't seem to know what "canon" means in the first place.

I do see this actually blowing up because of the as you say "foaming at the mouth" type people will be all over this thread saying
"well... manshep is better, he is much more believeable as a protagonist"
"hmm well... SheShep is better because she is the better voice actor"
man... I guess people can't look at things indifferently

I don't like Hale's performance, because I play paragades, so her overacting for paragon & renegade makes my femsheps come off as unstable. Meer's neutral (and mildly annoyed) tone sells the shift much better.

I understand your intent OP. It's just that sometimes these threads are just a seed, that grows into turmoil. I don't think one is over the other. As a hetro male, I enjoy both for diff reasons. Himshep for the realism and immersion of RP, and Femship for the third person eyecandy and hopefully a diff playstlye gameplay.

I'm a fence-sitter too, I like both versions equally and have done exactly 8 playthroughs with 4 of each.

But I have to say the Femshep fans seem a lot more rabid, and hateful towards Mark Vanderloo because he happens to be the face of the series.

It all depends on what you're used to. for me Iplayed Maleshep first then immediately did a Femshep playthrough so I alternate and therefore like both. If someone's only played Malehspe they think he's superior. If someone's only played femshep they think she's superior. It's all about personal preference.

I also do not like Hale's VA performance, but I play as a RENAgon and it comes across as weak, flat and very uneven. Shepard (male OR female) is supposed to be a battle hardened MARINE! Marines are typically thought of as more rough and tough, not some weak kneed soft pushover.
Liara's VA is FANTASTIC, lots of variations, tonal inflections and emotion, Hale's FemShep is sorely lacking.
