If Shepard was a spacer in ME1, then there was a chance that the player could meet his/her mother. Yet, very little is mentioned at all about Shepard's father.

So, without the basis of evidence, I think it is quite likely that the Illusive Man is Shepard's father, and mid-way through ME3, as the player confronts TIM in his hideout, TIM walks out and declares himself to be Shepard's father. Just like what they did in that Star Wars movie.

Why is this possible? It is a well-used plot device. Also, it would probably explain why the Illusive Man bothered to bring back Shepard: he wants his daughter/son back.

When Bioware said they had Luke twist in the game I dont think they meant literally.  

There will be a twist with Shepard and TIM but I think Bioware can be a bit more creative then using a well established plot from another sci-fi movie.

Oh wait they used the Terminator at the end of ME2 didnt they

Well, maybe the ancestors of Shepard's mother and TIM had intermarried between races generations ago. It happened in South Africa once. Two white people had a black child. During Apartheid.

Well with Spacer and Colonial Sheps, the parents could have been foster parents who adopted Shepard as a baby...
