Well I didn't kill any characters off...also Mordin died in my Suicide mission in my canon/true game.

Jacob
Thane

The only two I personally went out of my way to kill. I'm also planning to kill off: Tali, Garrus, Mordin, and Miranda (If Jack doesn't kill her) because of other people forcing them to have greater roles than they should.

Trying to avoid this, esp if it's entire team is Garrus/Tali.

I get immersed into these games as if it was reality.

In reality, if I'm leading a team on a suicide mission to save humanity from being entirely abducted, I'm not going to purposely get members of my squad killed no matter how much I dislike them.

Plus, to purposely kill them would be metagaming, and I HATE metagaming in story rich games.

So as much as I don't want to see a couple of people on my squad, they live.

That metagaming point is an interesting one actually... I felt that the means by which the game determined if your squadmates lived or died were too obvious, and such I couldn't really play through the SM without the 'game' elements being glaringly obvious (i.e. getting all loyalty missions, all research, etc)... So I make some bad decisons but 'justify' them in an out of game fashion... For example I make Grunt second fire team leader, which is a STUPID call to make, but his death makes sense from a 'Grunt would have been quite likely to be the last back through the door due to his inclination to get caught up in a fight/lack of control and such would've been reasonably likely to be killed during that section'...

I'm weird I know...

It may also be due to the fact that I lost Mordin in the HTL section during my first runthrough (the HTL section is an exception to the above actually, the game elements of that are less obvious, which i liked!)... And I couldn't go into ME3 with Mordin dead :crying:.

I feel bad about killing off characters. Whether I like them or not; they are all interesting and I want to see what they are doing in ME3.

I was so bummed when I made a renegade character and still got everyone loyal and romanced Tali; then in the Suicide Mission SHE STILL DIED!!! I was like wtf! I think it was during the Tali VS. Legion debacle. Even though I agreed with Tali but told Legion I lied to her. Which is dumb because Tali had no idea that I said that and the game still told me she was loyal.

I have a hard time getting anyone killed. In my latest non-canon run I made sure Legion, Jacob and Miranda died to see how it would affect the geth and Cerberus parts of ME3. Even if I don't particularly like a character, I always resist getting them killed because I feel like I'm cutting myself off from content.

No. There will probably be more potential content in ME3 with everyone alive.

I didn't do it because I disliked the character, but I did let someone die intentionally for story purposes. I'm doing two playthroughs with my canon Femshep, and in the second playthroughs I let her love interest be the only squadmate to die during the SM. I just figured since she was a colonist sole survivor, I would pile more crap on her for the finale. =/

With my male canon Shepard, I let Ashley die on Virmire. On the suicide mission I let Jack and Jacob die. It just doesn't feel right without any deaths...

Why would you kill them unintentionally? I hate Jacob, but I denied his vent request.

I'm honestly not interested in anything BioWare could come up with for Jack and Jacob in ME3.

The only character I would go out of my way to kill, and have attempted to before we knew better was Liara. And only because the ***** won't die. Which means if she did die, I'd have no reason to kill her. It's a bit of a conundrum.

I am...blown away by this post. I can't imagine how I missed it. Are you trying to suggest that you know what roles these characters should have better than the creators of said characters? Really?

...I mean, come on. Really?

I kind of feel that way too. I don't really want to kill her, I just want her to be able to die. Fair's fair.

I only kill characters that i did not want to have in the first place, but i was forced to by the game. One example in ME2, i can skip recruiting Thane or sell Legion to Cerberus, but i was forced to recruit Jack even when my shepard thought that Miranda was a good enough biotic specialist and not a crazy biotic who could risk the crew and the mission. Later on with the dossier of Samara, Jack becomes completely redundant to the point that my shepard would have tell her that she is no longer needed. But no, i had to keep her. Therefore i had to kill her in the suicide mission, or she would come back in some way to keep annoying me.

Yes and no. I didn't kill them so they wouldn't be in the next game, but rather I found it too easy for everyone to survive the supposed "suicide mission" in my first playthrough, so made sure to do things differently the second time, so some of them would die and give the mission more weight.

I killed Legion, Jacob, and Garrus I think.

Be interested to see how that effects the second playthrough - especially Legion.

but i do have alternate ones with everyone alive, i just don't think it's realistic for everyone to survive a "suicide mission", i'm not a fan of perfect endings

Yeah.... I'm not complaining, but it's kind of lame to have a suicide mission that everyone survives.

I agree... it doesn't really seem all that intense and impossible in no one dies.

That said... I do have a perfect playthrough.

I've also killed off Miranda, Tali, Jacob, Kasumi, Jack, Thane and sadly Mordin b/c there weren't enough people left to defend him at the hold the line. lol

No, in most games i play i try to pick the choices that may open up future content and more options....so i usually keep all characters alive where possible.

With my main character I had everyone survive. To be able to see the difference between that and losing squad-members (in ME3) I intentionally had Miranda and Tali die with another Shepard and Tali, Mordin, Garrus and Kasumi with a third Shepard.
