Everyone except Kaidan (died on Virmire) is alive on my canon playthrough.

I would have liked to have lost a few squadmates in ME2, just for the sake of realism and giving the story more emotional impact, but doing so would have required my Shep to make strategic or tactical blunders.

If it were up to me a perfect run in ME2 would have been losing the minimum amount of squadmates, but making it through completely unscathed would have been an impossibility. 2 or 3 deaths should have been unavoidable, IMO.

Hopefully ME3 presents you with a Virmire or two where it is impossible to avoid at least some casualties.

I have an issue when trying to have characters die to see what happens. Even as a Renegade, I feel that Shepard is responsible for each and every one of his team, and anything short of perfection is failure. If one dies, then a part of my Shepards go with them...

That being said, I am finally getting around to pulling off a Garrus/Tali/Normandy Crew only survival play through. Will also do some of the others mentioned above while waiting for ME3.

I find it pretty easy to come up with a RP reason to let anyone die. Take Jacob. Shepard doesn't know he's going to die going through the vents. If the player behind Shepard just so happens to dislike Jacob and allows his/her Shepard to take Jacob up on his offer to go through the vents, that is still RPing.

And how is it 'petty' or 'stupid' to play a game you paid money for the way you want to play it?

Best comment on killing squadies in ME2's SM ever!

Only Miranda, and just because right before the end credits an I beam fell on her head and killed her (lawl?). I figured it was sweet justice, that should teach her to wear some actual body armor into battle next time.

I have different people die on my different Shepards depending on what I see their characters as. My main Paragon and Renegade Shepards both have everyone survive. On my racist human supremacist Shepard, only the humans survive (even Wrex died). On another Paragon Shepard, only Mordin, Tali, Legion, and Garrus survive because those are my 4 favorite squaddies. One pure renegade Shepard has everyone die except Morinth and Jack, the crazies. My last Shepard has all the humans die.

As I see it, these 6 playthroughs and surviving characters will let me see as much variety in my ME3 playthroughs as I can get.

The only characters guaranteed to survive all of my runs are Garrus and Thane. I have killed off all the other ones in some fashion, just to see what happens. I've also deliberately not done loyalty missions just to see if there's any sort of impact.

It's actually kind of disturbing to think that actual RPing is not really rewarding in a RPG.

I also like Wrex. I coddle all his insubordinant remarks.
If he bites the dust, however, he's replaced by just some other generic Krogan who simply
doesn't greet Shep with enthusiasm.

I fear the same will happen with most other characters, ultimately making your choice moot as to whether or not someone survives.
Will the game developers really risk throwing away a large part of the story concerning the Genophage because Mordid was stuck in the pipe? He'll probably be replaced by some other generic Salarian, making gameplay less colorful, but nonconsequential nonetheless.

Waaa, Jacob flirts with me. KILL HIM!!!
Liara has plot armor? I want to kill her!!! (Now that's what I call roleplaying)
Miranda wears high heels into combat? She must die!

I dislike some characters, but my Shepard isn't a sociopath :P

Just Kaiden and Morinth.

I debate killing Jack. I didn't want to be her boyfriend so she decides to throw a hissy fit the whole rest of the game? Yeah, get the hell off of my ship. At least Miranda could handle rejection like a sensible adult, you freaking pre-teen.

Currently working on my 6th Shep. I plan on making sure Miranda and Jacob get smoked. Drake Shep hates Cerberus with a passion. The other 5 Sheps lost no squaddies, with on shep losing the cerberus crew.

This thread might make me replay ME 1 and ME 2 before next year just to eliminate any future annoyances. I guess this would be my third playthrough/fourth wall Shepard that isn't about paragon or renegade or roleplaying those two sides of his/her personality. The third playthrough is just for me.

Everyone except Ashley is alive in my main save.
I might replay it again though since that was my first time through the game and so I didn't have Kasumi at the time.

Y' love the killin, y'know y'do!

My Shepard ain't a sociopath... But I sure as hell am! From my perspective Shepard made bad choices But I was the one who chose how the story would progress. I got them killed for two main reasons. I kind of wanted too ad some drama, since playing through the mission with no casualties kind of felt flat. Hell, I made a point of getting Mordin (My second favourite character) killed to make things more painful for myself. And as for making Shepard look incomptent... Well I figured it was frankly an improvement.

Throughout the game half the cast are constantly gushing and squeeing about how Shepard is so completely and utterly awesome to an extent that kind of undermines any narrative tension. The Ilusive Man, Wrex and Garrus all do it to name a few, not to mention Shepard's Paragon non persuaion response to Zaeed Zorya. It seems pretty indulgent, given that I'd preffer they just show Shepard being a badass rather than have the characters hype him/her up in a way that makes Shep look like a boring inviceble hero, but worst of all having both Shepard and the others show such absolute confidence in his/her abilities makes you wonder by the end if Shepard is really going up against unbeatable odds or just having another day at the office. Bungeling the mission to me was a way of showing that Shepard isn't entirely perfect and capable, and making the dangers ahead seem a bit more credible by comprarison.

I disliked Jack. I wish I could have said "you won't get in a Cerberus vessel? Fine." and left her in Purgatory.
But intentionally killing her with negligence or poor judgement? That would not have suited cmd. Shepard (all 6 of them).

Just Ashley, on every single playthrough so far.

Main reason for this being that I send her with the salarians, while Kaidan goes off to deploy the bomb. When the geth start hitting both, the latter takes precedence. Had no real personal attachments to choose to save Ash anyway, what with her cheesy poetry quotes and lack of personality. Kirrahe survived anyway, so all was still well.

Looking at how both characters have evolved into ME3, I'd say I made the right choice.

Don't think I would've saved Kaidan over anyone else but Tali, though.

It's supposed to be a suicide mission, so most of the times I've let someone die. Jack and Jacob died on my main, since their loyalty missions didn't feel very urgent.
