I finally downloaded Mass Effect 2 from Amazon, installed it, updated it, and tried to play. It encountered an error and needed to close. I spent some time researching and found out it doesn't support Intel video cards, which is what I have.

My question(s) for you are: Is it worth it to upgrade the video/ graphics card, and what do you recommend I do? What card should I get (if I should)?

My specs:
Vista SP2
Intel Core2 CPU @1.86 GHz
6.00 GB RAM
Intel G965 Express Chipset

ME2 minimum specs:
XP/ Vista/ Win7
Intel Core2 Duo 1.8GHz
2 GB RAM
256 MB video card (with Pixel Shader 3.0 support) Supported Chipsets: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 or greater; ATI Radeon X1600 Pro or greater.

I don't know what most of that means, so I'm asking you guys for assistance.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, thanks!:)

We can't be certain here. Laptops are deadend disposable appliances. Those cannot receive a graphics upgrade.

Slimline versions of desktop cases are limited to Low Profile cards, and to low amperage cards, unless you upgrade the power supply as well.

A "normal" size and fatness desktop tower is fine; just name your budget amount, the default screen resolution for your display, and your hoped for image quality settings.

I have a normal Dell desktop. I would prefer under $100, though I'm clueless as to what that will actually get me. My screen res is 1280x1024, and medium quality is the most I would hope for, but anything that works would be great! Thanks for your help!

If you know the model of Dell it would help figure out how old and what it can use without massive upgrades.

OK, let's narrow it down slightly.  You can have exactly what you asked for at a cost under $60, or for closer to $90, you can get some breathing room that would get you better settings and not be overloaded by a new game just over the horizon.

I'm going with the latter:

For $85 (and it's $74 after rebate), you can have a good brand HD 5670 ~~

That's better than some of what you could get for $60, but on a basis of dollars per frame rate, the HD 5670 offers better value, and has 20 months or so of potential use until it becomes a Low Level entry part, while the HD 4670 is only eight to nine months from needing to be replaced in its own turn.

Once it's running for you, pop back in to wrap it up here. We like to know the results. Either way, of course, have fun with the game.
