It just seems out of character for him. I would have thought he would have done some sort of last stand, as I said before.XX55XX wrote...

I think Shepard doing some last stand/ cirten death mission would be okay. But the idea of Shepard shooting himself or whatever seems a bit dumb to me.
Not really. I'm sure Shepard would rather commit suicide rather than be turned into a husk.
Option for Shepard to commit suicide if we fail to stop the Reapers.

BeardShep doesn't care if the entire galaxy is lost, his LI dead, Anderson turned into a Husk or Conrad Verner becomes the new Harbinger. No matter what you throw at him, he's going to keep fighting. He'd stand on top of a planet, give the oncoming Reaper force the middle finger, shouting at the top of his lungs: "COME AT ME BRO!" before vanguard charging them.

Just what is this fascination with death? First, it's killing off squad members just because the player can and now trying to kill of Shepard?
I grant you the fact that ME2 allows, through your own morbid decisions, to let parts of your crew and squad die but why? Just because you can you do?
That's why
You want an ending where Shepard dies? Just start the game and let the first vorcha kill you. There. Such a downer that game was. Then, actually play the game to win.
Now that's lazy. Why can't we have sad endings? Why must we continually worship success? There is some value to be found even in failure. A deep reflective moment is what ME3 needs. And one of these alternate endings, even if somewhat morbid, can serve that role quite well.
You don't need to lose - just turn off the bombs or do whatever you need to do before the clock ticks down to zero.

One of the major themes of ME is survival and how emotion is powerful enough to drive someone into a futile fight against an unstoppable force. Shepard would fight until his/her last breath, even if he/she was the only person left alive.

They ought to be all under the banner of "Failure ending" where you are unsuccessful in overcoming the reapers, but you have a further freedom of choice in the way in which this occurs.

The thing is it would only be an optional ending, so if your Shepard has a different personality then you can still choose to go out fighting.

Exactly. I want a failure option.

But if there'll be any chance for saving the galaxy, Alyson will fight. I'm not going to lose my _canon_ char easily

On a somewhat related note... replaying ME2 an additional time to see the full failure ending was an amazing experience that I'm glad I did... it's utterly hearbreaking and had me sobbing by the end... can't imagine not having seen / experienced it, one of the most emotional moments in I've felt in games, television or film.
If you haven't seen it, it's worth watching, here's a link if you're interested (obviously, ME2 ending spoilers included)
That said, I love the fully heroic paragon ending where everyone lives too just as much (not a fan of renegade ending.. I feel dirty)... but that disastrous ending made me really cry and holds a particular ... fondness.. for me (for lack of a better word).
I still get misty eyed watching it.

I don't want a "Kill Myself" ending. Even though my evil Femshep kills everything and everybody she can, she rules the universe and will not go down without a big F you. She kills off her entire crew, all but 2 obviously. But will never take her own life. If she's caught in a fire, well smoke'em if you got'em.
You have your choice then.
My Shepard is a coward, and is fighting the Reapers only to save himself. That isn't bravery at work - it's really fear provoking a heroic response.

HA...You're right. Give me the opt. We're doomed anyway. It will be great to loose everything. I can't wait to see how bad I can actually do.
Why? You ask...Because I'm already playing the worst case scenario, just to see how things play out. It's like playing Fall Out with a low intel character. You play it that way, because you can. Plus the fact it gives great dialog opts.

The clock ticks to zero.
The last chance for the galaxy is gone. There is still fighting, but the organics of the galaxy have ultimately lost. It is only a matter of time before extinction occurs.
Instead of spawning a gameover prompt, wouldn't it be better to let the player retain control of Shepard for a little longer, get an opportunity to speak to squadmates about the failure to stop the Reapers, and what they might do to survive (or die quietly and peacefully while there is still the chance).
Anyone ever read the Cold War novel "On the Beach?" Yeah, Shepard & Co's final moments should mirror that of the last several chapters of the book.
Ultimately, the player should be given a choice: Allow Shepard to commit suicide and let the credits roll, or reload from an earlier save.
Shepard should be given the following options:
1. Digest some cyanide.
2. Shoot him/herself in the head.
3. Hang him/herself.
4. Drive the Normandy into Harbinger and give one last "**** you" to the Reapers, with Shepard pointing his/her middle finger at Harbinger just before impact.
