In other words, I've not really bothered with 'canonising' any particular Shepard, because there's no real 'right or 'wrong' outcome. ME's not like KotOR, where Revan is canonically male and a lightsider for example.

Revan was either male or female just like Shepard.

If you want to go by BioWare, there is no canon ending to ME3, because every Shepard is different, but that wan't my point of this thread.

I know many here have more than one Shepard and I was wondering if one of those was their canon Shepard.

Doesn't matter if you can play female Revan. There is a canon Revan who is lightside, male and romanced Bastila.

First off, there is nothing in the EU in Star Wars that is canon.  Except for the Force Unleashed Book.  Go to StarWars.com and go look Revan up.  They removed all EU information.  I just went and look.  The only "canon" in Star Wars are the movies and the Clone Wars TV show.  None of the books(Except for Force Unleashed), comics, or games are canon within the Star Wars itself.   If you ask George Lucas about Boba Fett, he died in the sarlacc pit, even though in the books he got out and is still alive.

Default does not equal canon.  There is not even a book written about Revan.

Well there is one coming out this year about what happend after Kotor. But it seems this doesn't make it canon, what a shame. Kotor, SW:Tor would deserve it!

ME1:
Romance: Liara
Spared the Rachni. (Gotta love the idea of "sending the Rachni division to rescue the council")
Saved Wrex
Had Kaidan fall behind on Virmire (never felt the need of his skills to my team, while Ashley was used for parts of the game)
Spared the Council
Made Anderson the Councilor (Only one I felt I could trust. Did get second thoughts after reading Mass Effect Revelation though)

ME2:
All Squadmates Loyal. Mostly Paragon.
- Garrus could be considered Renegade though.
- Kept the Cure for myself on Mordin's quest (Neutral?)
- Still unsure how I'll do in Legion's Mission. (Currently replaying my Canon to get it perfect)
Will destroy the base. (First time I kept it thinking it would be my own (silly me), but as it seemed I had no choice to turn it over to TIM I replayed the final mission destroying the base).

Durring dialogs I use a mix of Paragon and Renegade. Making sure it fits my own ideas.

So could call me Paragade I suppose ;)

Regrettably, the first few times I played through ME2 was without an import. I didn't have ME1, Genesis didn't exist, and I didn't even think about downloading a ME1 save to import. Therefore, I will soon do 6 runs using Genesis and ME1 saves with all different classes.

I will consider this as my canon Shepard:
Male, Spacer, War Hero, Soldier, Pure Paragon
ME1: Save Queen, Wrex Lives, Romance Ashley, Kaidan Sacrificed, Council Saved, Anderson for Council
ME2: Stay loyal to Ashley, All Squadmates survive and loyal (Paragon choices where possible), Save genophage cure, Rewrite Heretic Geth, Collector base destroyed.

I'm not sure if this will be my favorite playthrough, but I will consider this my main file to use in ME3. I'll also actually spend time to finish all the sidequests and missions in this playthrough.

For me, it would be the character I made from the first game carried to the end of her part on the series.

She's a Ruthless, Sentinel (I can't remember the other attributes). I also made an unknowingly identical character. (*facepalm*) Having said this, it's not like I haven't made some Paragon choices in either game and I don't doubt it'll be that way in ME3.

I base my "canon" Shep on me, basically. If I were in her position, what choices I would pick, etc. Turns out I'm really paragon. :P So I made a non-canon Shep that's the total opposite. :3

Iam what is considered a Paragon douche bag (Renegon?). I am a dick to everyone except my crew and wont hesitate to kill someone that threatens me but I usually do the right thing on the big decisions.Image IPB

My canon is a Shepard that creates the most satisfying/logical story for me. I invoke a bit of "myself" into him, like morals and physical likeness, but I also consider the context of the setting, and realize that Mass Effect =/= my reality. I make descions that seem in character for him. I try to avoid metagaming as well.

I have also written short stories about
his background(Earthborn, Soul Survivor), and those help me build on his
character. I try to avoid making him a Mary Sue however. Since I find Mary Sues boring.

An example of one of my canon's character traits, and  a few examples of how I apply it in game.

Values information highly, after seeing people make a business/lifestyle out of it. (gang life, military intel, Shadowbroker, Liara, Cerberus etc).

Kept the Collector Base: Need to learn more about the Reapers, and gain on their technology through the information in the base. Even if it does make Cerberus stronger.
Kept the Greybox: It had something on Reapers and the Alliance. Better to have it and not need it.
Kept the Genophage Data: Better to have it and not need it.
Kept the Cerberus Intel: Information that could maybe be used as leverage to keep TIM honest.

My favorite Shepard romanced Liara in ME1, let the council die, chose Anderson for the council, stayed faithful to Liara, chose to give the base over to Cerberus, and got back together with Liara with the Lair of the shadow broker DLC. Also chose Kaidan to stay behind and had Ashely kill Wrex.

My first playthrough is usually my "canon." Because I'm pretty thorough on the first playthrough and make cautious choices, I usually end up with a fairly solid ending.  Female-Sniper-Paragon is my default.

The only exception to this rule was a Dragon Age 2 playthrough where I lost two companions between chapters. Still not quite sure how I managed to do that.

Very brief summary.

Image IPB

David Shepard, Ruthless Earthborn Infiltrator.
Pro-human, not xenophobic but tries to advance humanity.
Pro-Cerberus.
Romanced Ashley.
Left the Council to die, thinking the Reapers could win if he didn't send every available ship to attack Sovereign.
Destroyed the Genophage data, thinking that Wrex's rule is all dependent on his control of the females and if the genophage is cured he'll lose control.
Sided with Samara, couldn't let Morinth run free.
Kept the Collector Base, needs the information against the Reapers.

My canon shepard:

looks: default
name: john shepard or was it Shap Shepard... anyway
class: soldier
origin: sole survivor
alignment: this is interesting, i was paragade leaning to paragon in the first game, then i was paragade leaning on renegade on the second game. I think shepard's alignment reflects in my paragade/renegade status in real life which i thought was pretty interesting.

major choices:
saved rachni queen, ashley, the krogan
let council die (needed to save the men for sovereign)
Gave station to Cerberus, as an aspiring engineer i respect and admire technology too much to destroy it. also the paragon options to destroy the station were irrational and stupid.
destroyed geth heretics
saved krogan cure

undecided:
if i get the overlord dlc and do the renegade ending the i might convince the quarians to take control of the planet, because the geth can be "hacked" apparently and therefore are unrealiable allies or peace partners. Otherwise i'd convince them to make peace.

I only have the one Shep...deleted the others....He is leveled out (60 in ME1)...Earth born/War Hero...He is eye candy to me, a paragon...though makes a small number of renegade choices and comments...a bit of a smart a**...., Assassin Infiltrator, romanced no-one (I am hoping that changes in ME3), has done every mission there is to be done (excluding exclusive renegade of course).

I'm not really sure.  My guess is that it would be the first Shepard that I play with when I buy a new Mass Effect game.  In my case, that would be Ben Shepard (based off my legendary Neverwinter Nights paladin, Belorfin Siana), 100% paragon, soldier, war hero.  Other than being orphaned at a young age (colonist), he's a pretty lucky guy, very charismatic, goes for the hot human girl.  And he's got blood red hair (red red).  Yeah.  I've created him in some form in NWN (half-elf), Mass Effect, and Dragon Age (city elf).  Thinks of Wrex as one of his favorite friends.

I do have another "primary" Shep, based on me, usually my 2nd playthrough.  Jeff, vanguard.  Smart guy, nice guy, logical paragade, goes for the more awkward and cute type, like Liara (ME1) or Tali.  Spacer, sole survivor, not as charismatic and not the best with people.  Best friends with Garrus Vakarian, got along well with Jacob.  Despite being a nice guy, he's determined to destroy Cerberus after they killed those Alliance marines.  Also told Harkin "I wouldn't have shot you in the leg." as in "I'd have shot you somewhere else."

Name: Wilhelm Shepard
Background:Colonist, Ruthless
Alignment: Absolutely ruthless, lets nothing stand between him and victory. Pro-Humanity but generally not xenophobic(except when it comes to Batarians), supportive of Cerberus' main goals.

ME1:
Feros colonists killed(collateral damage)
Shiala executed
Exterminated the Rachni
Persuaded Wrex
Ashley Williams KIA on Virmire
Let the Destiny Ascension get destroyed while the Alliance fleet went after Sovereign
Chose Anderson for the new human-led Council

ME2:
Destroyed genophage cure
Wiped out the Heretic geth
Urged quarians to attempt reclaimation of homeworld
Romanced Miranda
Preserved the Collector Base

My canon is the one where i didnt do everything perfectly. It's the one where you dont try to go for the 100% Paragon or Renagade character, and the one where not everyone survived the suicide mission because i played my cards safe in by destroying the geth station instead of re-writing, and siding with my love interest. My canon isnt a saint but isnt exactly a sinner. He just handles issues the way i would handle them were i in his situation.

My canon is always one where I make decisions based on what I would have done. From the beginning it was my first Shepard, a female engineer, but after trying all classes in ME2 it's been changed to a male infiltrator. All the main choices remain the same as when I played the games the first time, but some smaller things have changed. One example is the suicide mission, where everyone survived the first time. I realized that some of my decisions were based on it being a game, where I always try to do every little side quest before moving on to the next main quest. Now, I try to always do the mission that feels most urgent, meaning that a lot fewer loyalty missions are completed before the suicide mission. The result on my main was that Jack and Jacob died.

My "canon" Shep is the one I made in ME1 and imported to ME2. She, (yes, Shep will always be a woman in my eyes) survived through every mission, made some good decisions, made some bad, but in the end owned them all.

She takes care of her people but takes no crap from anyone else. In both games she did what needed to be done, not always what was popular. She had a bit of a crush on Tali, but dated Liara; sacrificed Kaidan, sacrificed the council, and worked grudgingly with Cerberus to save the galaxy - yet again - and thinks it's downright laughable and cowardly that they're taking her to task for it.

She still believes in humanity and wants to make sure it gets the chances it deserves ... though she's not so sure if serving the Alliance is the best way to do that any more. She is a good friend and an unrelenting enemy.

She has seen too much, hides too much and drinks too much; and the only person she has admitted uncertainty to is Liara - and then only after the fact.

She is not a paladin or an outright scum, but a real flesh and blood hero who questions herself, questions her duties, but does what she believes is best for the galaxy anyway ... because at the end of the day she sees this whole Reaper threat as a "her vs them" scenario ... one she does not intend to lose.
