Soldier will still be the only class that uses the light machine gun... and can choose all 5 weapons in ME3.. in ME2 all other classes can choose 3 weapons (excluding LMG, as it's a soldier only gun still).. so I'm sure it will still be plenty appealing to the shooter fans out there.
Don't forget that after the "Investigate Collector Ship" mission, classes besides Soldiers could train in one weapon usage of their choice (Assault, Sniper, or Shotgun), making their options of weapon usage up to 4 out of the 5. Soldiers have their distinct ability to use Adrenaline Rush which was a key power to use in a larger scaled firefight and Concussive Shot which is comparable to Throw, but I believe balance was achieved in ME 2. Every class had abilities that helped greatly in specific situations. It's all tastes and preferences in tandem with play style. People may say they don't like Adepts because they don't like the way biotic powers are seemingly to weak or useless to them; however Adepts are particularly effective in destroying foes with Barriers, Armors, and unshielded/unarmored foes due to CC powers like Pull, Singularity, and Stasis. Warp and Shockwave are particularly good against offsetting enemies. Adepts are powerful in the right situations and with the right style of play. People may say that they don't like Soldiers because Soldiers may not be appealing due to their weak and slow regen Concussive Shot and repetitive ammo "powers", but still Soldiers were able to use all weapons and have the right to use all ammo types to gain the edge along with Adrenaline Rush.
I suppose what Bioware has to do is to enforce the class balance and make sure that each class is bolstered in it's effective prowess and visual appeal. It's not anybody's fault that some people find certain classes to be unappealing to them. Everyone has different tastes and preferences. It's only selfish and ignorant to pursue a cause-effect revelation in terms of ME's balanced gaming mechanisms just because some people don't like the visual flair or the skills seem to be too shoddy for them.

Heightened AR and the mattock with Incendiary ammo or even tungsten ammo is unstoppable and makes insanity like playing on casual. You take out 4 enemies in one AR and it recharges every 3 seconds. The amount of damage you do makes it pointless to user overload or warp or any other defense stripping power except for when up against maybe a YMIR mech or a praetorian.
You don't even need to use cover either. You can literally, on insanity, just use AR and gun everyone down with 4 shots of the mattock on each enemy. Very rarely are there more than 4 enemies out of cover at any given time. You can just bum rush through missions/levels pounding everything it's not even funny.
This is on the PC though where quicker/snappier headshots come in to play.

As long as a soldier still has AR in ME3 (we know the class does) with the damage increase, the class will still be very powerful.

In ME2 the Infiltrator and Sentinal were by far the best classes in the game followed by the Soldier who was only slightly weaker. The Vanguard and Engineer were fun to play wtih and made battles interesting but they were objectively weaker than the top 3 classes. Engineers were next to useless against enemies with barriers like Eclipse mercs and collectors whikle Vanguards died way too easily and were forced to rely on spamming charge to regenerate shields. Adepts were next to useless since their only two powers worth using were warp and pulll (the latter only if using a teammate with warp and on lower difficulties) with the adept being little more than a warp spammer who couldn't do anything to shields. Who wants more balance this time around, especially if we are going to have multiplayer?
And yes, the engineer bears the adept since the combat drone aocult distract enemies with barriers. The adept was boring and useless due to enemy defenses.
barriers you say? 1 word: Locust
engineer is the class I first played as/did first play through in ME1 and same for ME2. it isn't weak like you say it is. get in close with a shotgun or locust and have fun.

Thanks for the opinion.
And I'm glad ME3 does not have multiplayer, so we can focus on having a great experience for the end of the trilogy.
(fingers crossed

The tempest and shuriken have better (1.5x I think) barrier damage modifiers than the locust. Locust is more balanced though (1.25x for all 3) and more accurate.

My last playthrough of ME2 I played an adept and I was way overpowered. An adept built and used well can control the entire battlefield, lifting and throwing enemies, using warp to stop Krogan and Vorcha from regenerating and doing combos with other biotics. Plus, using advanced training you can unlock biotic barrier so no-one can touch you.
Engineer was great too. Incinerate. Cryo blast. Just brilliant. I thought all the classes in ME2 were very well balanced, you just had to learn how to use them as they rewarded very different play styles.
Finally, it's a party based game. Combining skills to meet every eventuality is part of the gameplay. You did know you could do multi character combos, right? Use Mordin to freeze someone and Grunt to shatter them? Use an adept Shepard to catch enemies in a singularity and then use Miranda or Thane to use warp to explode it? No class is useless.

Balance is overrated. In a SP, classes just need to be fun and distinct. Any class played properly is a walking death machine anyway.

The original six classes are returning. There is no new "Melee only" class. Instead, all classes will have more options in close combat.

Unlike a large majority of people on these forums I do know what the confirmed features thread is, I just figured they were waiting to put it on there when the clas trailer was released.
