I'm a huge animal lover, and as such I love the idea of having a pet that follows me around on the Normandy. But the key word in that sentence is "pet". There is something very cold and unloveable about having a FENRIS Mech as a pet. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against synthetics, I thought EDI was a great addition to the Normandy and Legion is one of my favorite characters, but Mechs don't have an A.I., they are simply programmable machines, with no real sentience or independent thought.

That being said, I have a proposal to make. Anyone who has played Mass Effect 2 remembers Urz (http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Urz), the tame and surprisingly friendly varren that you can pet and if you feed it, happily follows you as you wander about the Urdnot camp. It's also stated that Urz's handler was exiled and since Urz no longer has an owner (this is clear because the handler didn't take him with) and also since Urz is a retired pit fighter and thus no longer fulfilling a role in the camp, and Ratch (Krogan shopkeeper) also comments about how Urz has finally found someone to follow around, it's clear the Krogan don't really care all that much about him anymore.

So as I said before I have a proposal to make, I propose that we get Urz as the pet, not the FENRIS Mech. I even have the perfect idea of how. Wrex notices that after Shepard's departure from Tuchanka Urz has become very listless and isn't eating much and he realizes that Urz misses his new buddy Shepard. So Wrex, being a sensitive guy (for a Krogan) sends Shepard an email saying he'd like him to swing by Tuchanka. And when you go there, Wrex is waiting for you with Urz standing next to him wagging his tail. A conversation with Wrex esues and when you leave, you have an extra passenger onboard the shuttle. Urz could follow you around the ship whenever your aboard, nipping playfully at the crew and basically being the ship's mascot. And if you get tired of him following you around, you can interact with him and tell him to "Go to your room" and he would head to the lift and bark and EDI could make some sort of comment, and then open the elevator doors and the lift would take him to your quarters where he would jump up on the bed, circle a couple of times (it's a dog thing) and then lay down (there could be a small cutscene for the first time this happens), after the first time he would just wander away and be in your room when you went there) and the next time you left the ship and came back he would follow you around again.

Mass Effect 3 will not be coming out until March 6th, 2012. This gives the developers plenty of time to make the change and implement this in the game (or if not as a replacement, perhaps make it a mini-quest or something I don't know). Personally I think this is a million times better than a FENRIS Mech for a pet. I know the odds of a Bioware Rep reading this are slim, and even slimmer that the suggestion would even be taken under advicement, and even slimmer still that it would be implemented, but it's my hope that if enough people read this, agree with it and then comment, voicing their support, then maybe, just maybe, there is a snowball's chance in hell it might happen.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post, I realize it's a bit wordy, sometimes I prattle on a bit to much.

So if you want to see Urz as a pet in ME3 instead of the FENRIS Mech, please speak up, and thank you for your support.

A varren would be great over the Mech. I'd very much support this.

I think I would actually prefer a choice of which you want. I would prefer the MECH myself though.

I would much prefer Urz or even just an unnamed varren to the robodog.

And can be modified with weapons.

Hmm maybe the Mech could be like Dog in DA2 and follow you around on missions and kill bad guys for you.

I would prefer Urz over the mech though a choice of either or both would also be nice. They should have brought Urz onboard in ME2 itself.

From what I understand the mech stays on the ship, though I'm not sure if it actually follows you around or just hangs out in your quarters. As for being like the Mabari in DA2 that thing died so often I eventually just stopped summoning it. At least in DA:Origins the dog leveled up and got tougher and did more damage.

@vkt62

Yeah I have no idea why they didn't do that in the first place, I mean they made a point of saying is owner was exiled and how it was nice he finaly had someone to follow around. The logical step in my mind is "Oh, nobody wants him? Hey Wrex! can I have this varren? I'll take good care of him. Wrex: Yeah sure Shepard, go for it.

I'm fine with the mech, but I don't really see the point; wasn't my space hamster good enough? Or my (constantly dead) fish?

They should still be there, but now you got a "dog" too :P

Hmmmm. Fish or Urz...
Dead fish after every mission as opposed to varren droppings every morning.
Not sure... At least both are flushable.
But a mech? For a pet? Not sure I want. Actually, I'm very sure I do not want.

I wanted to keep Urz in ME2. I'd prefer him over a stupid robot.

I would also prefer this greatly, those mechanical dogs are simply not the same. They're ugly and its hard to imagine a robot as a likable pet. Give me my Varren back!

Wrex sends Shepard an email from the grave eh?

No thanks, I have a fair few of my Sheps that would prefer FENRIS to a scale itch carrying Varren and most of the others are ok with the Krogans taking care of Urz whilst they are away from Tuchanka

I would prefer to have the FENRIS mech with AI technology.

I'm down with this suggestion. Especially if you get a choice. A pyjak would be fun too.

Varren stink and would tear up the furniture. It would be a garage pet.

Agreed! Rather have a real dog. Like Shepard finding a real dog hiding somewhere, and Shep saves him and brings him back to the Normandy to be patched up. I can see a mech dog being really annoying.

I always liked that touch of humility our Shepard dispayed during the Quarian Crash Site
mission, the little glance over to the varren corpses then favouring to holster his/her weapon.
I think having Urz trundling around on the cargo deck can only be a good thing,
maybe you'd have date Kelly in order to have her clean out the varren turds. :)

I'll be getting the Fenris Mech so it'll be interesting see what interactions (if any)
they'll be, would prefere Urz though.

The problem is the mech not having personality right? Plug the Shepard VI in there man! Problem solved.
