I tried searching for this answer but can't seem to find it...

I played ME2 but not ME1, when importing my ME2 save is there a way to ensure I get Kaidan or Ashley if I choose to? Or do we not know this information yet?

You'll get whichever of those characters you got in ME2, which by default was the character opposite-gender of Shepard.

So if your Shepard is male you'll get Ashley. Female, you'll get Kaidan.

Honestly I think that would depend on if you're male or female. Female get Kaidan and male get Ashley.

Unless you use Genesis or Gibbeds, ME2 will always make the Virmire Survivor the opposite gender of your Shep.

Actually this goes back to Virmire in ME1 where you had to choose who survives Kaidan or Ashley and even Wrex might be either dead or alive according to your actions.
At the start of ME2 you get either Kaidan or Ashley according to shep gender.

Just go play ME1, it's better than ME2.
