...in ME 3 that are presented when Shepard is in cover...are they gonna be in game? They look very awkward and make look game very... arcadey. Not everyone likes such a handholding in games.

Simple solution would be an option to turn them off in menu.

Just wanted to point it out, because I didnt saw thread about this and imo these arrows are very derpy and feel out of place. At least to me.

They're going to be there because they are context-sensitive action indicators, not "handholding" icons. They tell you that if you hit the action button right now at this very moment and in this specific location, Shepard will roll out (or whatever) instead of vaulting over as you may have been expecting.

The GUI is one of the easiest things to change in a game, as I understand it. I'm sure they'll come up with something less intrusive by release.

I don't like the look of those arrows; I hope they're gone March 2012 - if not, please add the option to hide them Bioware. I want to look at enemies flying all over the place, not traffic signs :)

Many other TPS games manage to get this without arrows on screen. Therefore this is handholding.

This kind of thing is needed when one button does use cover, run, talk, roll, jump, shop, open doors and so on.

Gears has them.

Gears also has the option to turn them off - I hope BW do the same!

Actually, Gears of War has it's own "handheld" icons when you're behind cover. When you switch from cover to cover it shows icons of your current position and what you're about to do if you press the A button. I don't hear anybody complaining about that either. I believe that because there are numerous mobility actions that can be done, Bioware just wants to make sure that people don't make mistakes. Not everybody knows that Shepard can move from wall to wall because they won't be able to see it nor do they know that if they press the A button they might accidentally get up out of cover instead of creep around cover. Making such mistakes and not knowing what can be available can be dangerous in a firefight. I don't mind the arrows. I think of it as reminders that if I do something, this certain action will happen. In fact, the arrows aren't so attention grabbing. It's just a line that points somewhere. It's not an image that takes away your view. As long as you can discern the direction the arrow is pointing while you're scanning other parts of the screen, you'll know what happens when you press the A button.

Yes I agree. Listen to the fans this time, and remove the arrows. (Fans asked for the red veins to be removed.) Give us the option at least. And also let us turn off "auto aim". I hate when video games do things for you. I am not incompetent I can shoot and run and cover all by myself. So PLEASE give us the options in the options menu, not just story and game play. I agree this way both parties can have what they want.
One more time Bioware,PLEASE give us the option to turn certain things "on" & "off".=Win. Win!

Unfortuantly EA only allows you to play their games in the way they want you to play it.

I think they're prtty useful - in the heat of combat, if I hold 'A' and aim in a certain direction I want to be certain the game knows what I'm trying to do. For example, if I want to move out of cover but I end up doing a SWAT turn or a roll because the game wasn't showing what I was about to do I'd be pretty annoyed.

The arrows aren't any more obstrusive than the interaction box that comes up around doors or characters in ME1 and ME2. In fact, I'd say these arrows are less obstrusive as they only appear when you hold down a specific button, as opposed to the box that appears over doors or people that is always present.

Blaming EA for everything? I thought BSN got past that phase.

Are you sure they show up after holding a button? I figured they showed up simply when in cover to show what would happen if you press the action button + direction key (action + forward to vault forward over cover, for example)

If that's the case, that's pretty annoying. If it's true that they only show after holding down the action button then it shouldn't be much of a problem.

As far as I know it'll be like Gears of War where they only come up when you hold the action button and direction, or possibly only the direction key, to show you what you are about to do. Otherwise, you may have no idea whether you're about to roll, vault or do a swat turn, which would be annoying in combat.

If they're up all the time then all the possible arrows would have to be up at once, and they aren't. Having said that, I can't be sure they only come up when prompted - it just seems like the sensible thing for Bioware to do.

This.  It will be the most effective solution.   Im sure most people can see where they move forwards without the arrows, especially experienced players.

A toggle in the options menu would make alot of people happy im sure.

They should have the arrows smaller and under the squad or ammo hud.

People don't complain about the health bars or the interaction icon that pops up no matter how far away it is, or the marker that appears when you tell a squadmate to move. I don't see why these arrows are any different.

The health bar is providing useful and vital information still.   As do the squad markers as they confirm that the squad is moving as intended to the correct location.  Interaction markers speak for themselves.

These move out arrows are a little redundant to experienced players.  We know where we going to move to and they arnt providing additional help as we know what were doing.   We are already positioned in a corner and know we can move out of cover.  A blue arrow in this case isnt really needed, but it appears anyway.

Im sure, everyone is going to need these arrows for some period of time, due to the new system. which allows you to cut corners and directly out of cover to another piece of it. When you get used to it, i have to agree, it would be good if they added the option to get rid of it

They provide additional help in that they show you that the game knows what you're doing. You might know that you're trying to move out of cover, but you may be pointing the directional button a little too far and the game thinks you're trying to pull a swat turn. I don't imagine the ME3 cover system will be quite as smooth as, say, Gears of War's so it'll be useful to have these little icons just so you know the game knows what you're trying to do.

It looks like the camera focal lengths have changed in ME3. In ME2, when Shep is behind a standing cover, the camera zooms back a bit to give you a wider angle of view. In here, the camera stays close to him. It's better for aiming, but worse for peripheral vision; you can't even see the pillar he was switching to, so I can see why contextual arrows were added. This is actually better at representing what happens when you're in cover; you are more accurate but you have less area awareness. The arrows would help new players, but experienced players don't need it.
