if you create a char with the creator, you get a preset of talents and weaponskills depending on the race and class...is this the same with the cam or can you choose the talents there? i am wondering cause i saw a video of a dwarfen noble warrior (who - referring to the creator should have 2h weapon as skill) was using shield/sword combo skills just at the start of the game... so my question?

this also concerns me, cause i feel that dwarfes and elves have inferior talent choices for their classes comjpared to human...

e.g. as elfen warriors get the persuading skill - this is a bad combo since warrior will never have enough cunning to build up the skills

same with dwarfen warriors who get stealing...

I am guessing that depending on your origin and your race that you get different starting skills (much like oblivion - in a way). However once you have them you may choose upon them or get entirely new ones, maybe you can change during origins?

the problem is, that skilss relate to talents, skills you get only every 3 lvls...so starting allocation is pretty important...dragonage wikia also says you can choose 2 talents during creation, maybe that comes at a later point in game then during the creation process?

I could be wrong but wasn't persuade supposed to be modified by strength or cunning?

I.e strength for warrior making your persuade more intimidating and for rogue cunning which should make him more tricky or diplomatic..?

well this would make much more sense, but at least it is not yet implemented in the character creator...maybe in the first patch (if there is one)? it bothers me a bit, that the rpg is focussing a bit too much on humans and on "classical rpg archetypes" - e.g. humans are the number one chosen race anyway, so the other races should be more appealing not less....and that building up a dualwielding warrior does not to make that much sense since you need lots of dexterty that you cant really use otherwise as warrior

This has been answered before and it is correct. Coercion works with cunning OR strength, in a more intimidating kind of way. So a warrior can also persuade using his strength modifier

The skills / talents that the CC shows as already given are class / origin specific.

For example, the Dwarf Commoner origin, regardless of what class you take, automatically gets the first stealing skill for free. Read that again. FOR FREE. It doesn't affect any further allocation; that's completely up to you.

Does it give some origin/class combinations advantages over others? Only if you really want to min/max the gameplay. Otherwise, even as a warrior or a mage (who cap out at 8, possibly 9 skill points) you can still completely fill out 2 full skill tiers.

Same goes for talents; the ones the CC gives you by default don't count against the ones you get to choose. They're purely race/origin/class specific.

I love how you say "even" and "still completely" as if it's "wow, you've got SO many skill points, what's there to complain about?!". I'd consider Combat Training mandatory for any Rogue or Warrior, and Coercion mandatory for the PC. Doesn't really leave much room.

Edit: I'm getting some unverified, mixed reports. Supposedly, the wiki is right and the guide is wrong. Rogues does get 1 point/1 level and warriors/mages get 1 point/2 levels. That's a sudden leap upwards in the available number of skillpoints, especially for rogues!

but is it correct that you get 1 talent point per lvl? or does the rogue also get 2? 1 talent point per lvl + the ones you get at the beginning seems very few, especially since the talents are buliding up on the one before, it means at end lvl you have little more then one talent tree full?!

Don't worry, with spoiling anything the game is designed so that you will be able to specialize in the path of your choosing...naturally if you wish to be a jack of all trades you will be just that and master nothing. There are other rewards in the game besides coin, items, and prestige...trust me.

That said, though it used to bother me at character creation based on your origin story you're giving talents that you'd consider less optimal but you'll quickly learn later on it's really trival. Do enough in the game and you will be able to fill out your favored talent tree as well as skill tree that including the specializations. You won't be able to have every spell in the game or invest heavily in two wpn trees but if you plan ahead and know the direction your character will want to take you'll be able to learn all the most important talents/skills that you'll actually use.

I have a lvl 22 mage, I don't really know what other spells I even want let alone would actually use outside of my normal plan of attack. No sense in having inferno, blizzard, and chain lightning if you won't have the mana to cast it.

I use a mod, Advanced Party, to prevent character generation from automatically assigning skill points on character generation. Like having more control of the distributions of character skill points, especially on warriors. Two handed warriors starting with a wasted point in shield bash? No thanks.
