At old age, I've grown tired of carrying my cd cases with me everywhere etc. I used the old nwn.bioware.com site to register my games so I could get my cd keys anywhere anytime I'd need them. But now with the new update I cant really find them. Are they still located somewhere in this new site? Or do I practically have to go get a new game if I ever want to install them again? (Currently, Its luckily installed so I can just dig the keys up from the confs)

Also is there going to be an option to add legacy games to the owned games list like before? I happened to like that feature :crying:

Humm I did spot a cheap bargain for the game at a local store and I guess I'll get new cds and keys and all, but still, can I locate my old keys somewhere? Or did they disappear along with the community changes?

Try reading that 'nwncdkey.ini' file in your NWN directory. Your current keys should be in it.

That would work, assumed that I'd still have the game installed and located somewhere in my disk.

Ugghhh. I have absolutely no good news for you.

You won't be able to recover your CD Keys from bioware until they get the information migrated over onto a new, secure server.

And no, as far as we know there are no plans to allow legacy registrations, which is why many of us old timers have begun integrating our legacy games into our signatures.

The best way to get a legal CD key is just to buy a new copy of the game at GoG.com. The game will install with a generic cd key that won't allow multiplayer. You can then request a custom key that takes 2-3 business days to arrive (although mine came in less than three business hours). The gog version is 1.68, so you'll need to patch it to 1.69.

i have the same issue. just had a hankering for some old NWN, i dont like NWN2 enough to revisit it, lol. so i thought i would go all the way back to NWN1. so for someone like me who has been buying and playing games (MOSTLY PC) for the last 20 years, its a pain in the ass to keep track of loose materials. i'm glad that games are made and released with DVD boxes now but i had a box of old jewel case instructions that have all gone missing. temple of elemental evil, dragonshard, icewind dale 2, all codes gone....

i have all the NWN1 disks and x-packs in that crappy lil box that they gave us with one of the expansions but no sign of codes... shame.

Never noticed if it was set 168 or not but there is a patch that you can download witch should be the very last patch of the 1.69 build. At least I have only used that and I have zero issues with it. You have ot make sure that once you buy from GoG.com that you do dl the patch if you do it yourself. If you use the GoG Downloader, it should install it when prompted to. Haven't used the DLer so I am guessing on that. Though the forums there have plenty of tips and help like here.

If at any point you backed up your hard disk drive when you had NWN installed, you should be able to copy over the install folder to your computer and the game should run.

Or you could get it at GOG, as mentioned. It's pretty cheap and they run a great site.

You can find the CD INSTALL keys printed inside the front cover of the game manual. You do keep the manuals, don't you?   :D

Shadows of Undrentide came with loose keys printed on a small piece of red paper. I copied it into the front cover of the manual.

Has bioware indicate if they intend to restore the keys ?

I doubt Hasbro has enough common sense to speak let alone act about informing us of any good news.

I too am unable to find my manual, as it has been many years and through a few moves since I first purchased the game. I would very much appreciate some news on when Bioware plans to re-post the cd-keys in our profiles, but it would seem, with how much time has since elapsed, that this is not going to happen. Perhaps this information is lost to them after the server infiltration?

I very much doubt the information is lost. It's just that Hasbro / EA who bought out Bioware don't give a tinker's cuss about their customers and think that "support" is what we should do for them, not the other way around.

This isn't entirely fair.

EA has no reason to support an Atari product.

You could argue that BioWare should support their game, but BioWare isn't really the same BioWare that made NWN, since it is now EA BioWare.

We're lucky to have what we do, and to have had what we had, for as long as we had it.

No-one expects to take their Ford into a GM dealership for warranty service.

Kinda ironic that this same issue, 6 months after the legacy site has gone *poof* still keeps popping up.

The fact is:  Bioware never stipulated that CD keys typed into their database served as a back-up for a game-owner's own security measures.  All that was inferred was that, upon request from the account owner, they would email the codes that were typed in during registration on the Bioware site.  The site itself never warranted anything.  It was just a complimentary convenience for registrants who wished to take part.  The fact that many players decided to use the service as an infinite primary safe-storage facility is their own affair, one that they are just now forced to come to grips with.  And to be even more pragmatic, the entered codes were never verified i.e. no algorithm was applied during data entry.  So that means that even though they could be recovered at some future date, there is no guarantee that they will work if there had been a transcription error by the account owner when entered.

As far as I am concerned, when it comes to multiplayer game accounts: treat the security codes that came with the game as if the codes themselves are what you payed for when you bought the game, IF the primary reason you bought it was to play on-line.  In cases like that, when the physical codes on the jewel case or brochure become illegible from overuse or wear, request new ones from the vendor.  If they fail to provide replacement service, perhaps it's time to boycott the rest of their products, depending on their excuse for refusing aid.  Most every time I have been faced with a code-replacement issue, the vendor has cooperated quickly.  In many cases, it requires that you provide some level of documentation, proof-of-purchase, etc... a normal merchandising process.

Then again, I seriously doubt that game support service was intended to last forever... perhaps 11 years is beyond the practical point of expecting full support especially since the intellectual property of the game along with the customer service defined by the originating company itself was not purchased, but rather just assumed (or "adopted", if you prefer) by the acquisition.

On the bright side, though, for a mere $10 one-time fee, anyone on the planet can regain the same access they had 11 years ago... and NO!... I do not have any holdings in GoG or any of the on-line DL sites.  It's just dam handy is all.

GOG is total crap, you dont get a valid CD-key with the game, you have to request one, and then it might take them a week if they ever give you one.
