Full disclosure: my male Shepard was a talimancer before it was even possible.  However, the more and more I think about it, would she even really want a relationship with Shepard?

Her loyalty to the flotilla is paramount to her character.  She's fiercely loyal to her culture, so would she really want to have a relationship with someone outside of her species? Although there's a one-child policy on the flotilla now, the quarians are planning on getting that homeworld soon=need for repopulation along the "go forth and multiply" lines.

As pointed out in another of my posts, this shouldn't be possible due to humans and quarians seeming to have very different genes.  So would she have even gone for Shepard?  Is it a heat of the moment in a tense situation thing with no lasting power?  Will she ditch Shepard once her people need her?  Is Kal'reeger gonna be the sperm donor if Shep and Tali work?

So was this a feasible relationship, or did Bioware cater to the other Talimancers and I who wanted a relationship with her in the first game?  Not complaining, but is this relationship really feasbile based on Tali's fierce loyalty to her people?

...maybe I should have got her exiled.  Would make more sense in the canon.

Just know this buddy, when the time comes, you got to let her go back to her people. I love Tali to death, so much in fact that (if given no other choice) I'd rather go all renegade and give over the evidence rather than let her accept exile. It's the right call in my opinion, sure she will hate your guts for it.

Same goes with the choice of leaving her people, if she has to choose stay with Shepard or go with her people, the right choice is to push her towards staying with her people. She won't like hearing it, but it's the right call, your a human soldier, it will be a difficult life for her living in your world.

Arcian's just pulling stuff out of his rear, there are legitimate concerns that I can understand somebody having with Tali's character but I think a lot of that comes down to taste and perception, he doesn't have anything but broad generalizations.

"Look! That guy has opinions we don't like! Fetch the pitchforks!"

I remember you from Tali thread. Someone said you are not a troll. But now I really think he was mistaken. If you are not a troll you sure try hard to become one:(

Yeah I don't think so, Tim.

@Arcian could you consider replying my post at page 8.

I'm the one here that DOESN'T consider you troll and has respect for you.
But I think your reasons are just ridiculous and some false.

And that is your opinion, and I respect it. We don't have to agree on the reasons.

As for the Smudboy comparison, the difference between me and him is that he considers his own opinions objective and matter of fact, as if his opinions overrides everyone's elses and no one has the right to argue with him. I, on the other hand, realize that there are many who will not agree with me - and this is OK - but that does not mean I will stay my tongue when asked for my opinion or blatantly agree with those who would object to it, out of fear of a verbal reprisal (many good examples in this thread alone) when I really disagree with them.

If people interpret this as trolling, it's really their problem. I'm just stating my opinion, just as the thread asked.

^Well OK, I got little too far with smudboy comparison, but really.

Could you at least give reasons we can understand where you're coming from?

I would even understand smudboy's stands on ME2 more if he gave more valid reasons. He is right at few points and at some I don't agree with him but see where's he coming from.

And ofcourse no treating his opinion as facts and insults.

Er if that's how you want to play it, then you CAN play it like that. Whereas if someone does not want to play as 100% military professional they can. Hell there are a lot of opportunities to either play as a very strict military Shepard or as one who's well not so military.

In ME2 especially, regardless of the reasons why fraternization is discouraged in the military, Shepard is NOT military at this point and as such is not bound by military rules, whether or not he continues to abide by them well, that's his decision.

It's less being bound by military rules and more being bound by ethics and common sense, IMO :)

I can't imagine ParaShep doing something that unethical, and even ReneShep isn't one to potentially compromise the mission just to get his rocks off. Shepard's a bit of an established character even given the multiple choice aspect, and this sort of behavior really isn't consistent with that character.

Lol at you getting worked up over a game!

Bull.

This^

Shepard is NOT an established charactrer, no matter HOW you play him. A renegade doesnt always have to make renegade decisions, a paragon doesn't always have to make "paragon" decisions.

Hell you're assuming even that Shepard has the same thought process about fraternization as you do. Why couldn't Shepard consider it the same way Turians do? Turians, arguably the most militant and disciplined force in the game, don't have rules against fraternization(iirc from what Garrus says, not certain if that applied to officers though), so why is it hard to imagine that someone could play as a Shepard who sees nothing wrong with it?

Oh and furthermore, technically ANY emotional connection at ALL could cause Shepard to make a mistake in order to protect someone(for example even without romancing Tali Shepard may care more for her, do to her being part of his original team, than, say, Jacob, and could decide not to send her to do a task she's arguably better suited for in order to protect her[the vents anyone?])

Now I'm not going to say fraternization is necessarily never a bad thing or anything but you seem to put a little bit too much weight on it and also assume Shepard is some kind fo super human who would never even think of doing something that may/may not be immoral.

Not at all - Shepard (at least Renegade, and occasionally Paragon) does immoral stuff all the time - in service of the mission. Given the way they wrote both versions of Shepard, it does not make sense to have her/him jeapordize the mission for personal gain. That's what makes the romances fall flat in Mass Effect 2 - they're inconsistent with the different character pathways Bioware has written.

Yeah because being a renegade is pretty much saying your corrupt (renegades embodies strict military moments, accepting bribe money, killing innocents, hitting reporters...)

First of all, her arrogance and snappy behavior: When in the trial, she has an outburst and calls Admiral Koris a bosh'tet for suggesting she is looking for an honorable death fighting the geth instead of being exiled, and she says what she really wants is to look for her father. Now, I'm not saying Koris wasn't being a douche at the time or that Tali was lying, but she's really goddamn arrogant to have the gall to insult not only one of her goddamn judges, but also one of her people's highest leaders. The fact that her father was an admiral doesn't justify this - a princess can't insult the king of another country without repercussions. And what's worse - she's not even reprimanded for this behavior. No one even calls her out on it. This, in my opinion, is bad writing.

You might think that bosh'tet was warranted, but I personally think she was being incredibly childish and immature for letting herself have an outburst like that, no matter the reasons. It's one thing to call him a bosh'tet in private or between her and Shepard, but not to his face and not during a bloody trial - HER trial, no less.

Then we have the Jacob issue after she is recruited, when he is being completely amiable toward her during the entirety of the scene and she just throws veiled insults in his face as a response. People keep thinking the "Introduce yourself to the ship AI,"-line is Jacob being childishly vengeful for Tali's behavior, but it's just a matter-of-fact statement that she should introduce herself to EDI so she won't get scared sh!tless when she suddenly hears an AI talking to her down in engineering. And she gets massively upset over it.

Of course, most fanboys (not just for the ME franchise) like belligerent tsunderes with an attitude, so this might not be such a big surprise.

And really, the writers were NOT subtle with her Shepard worship. On Haestrom, almost every single of her journals has to cram in a line about how awesome Shepard is, or how she misses Shepard or wishes s/he was there. I mean, talk about not being focused on the task at hand! No wonder her people all got themselves killed, considering she was day-dreaming about Shepard instead of leading them!

And of all the squadmates besides Jack, she is the one to constantly second-guess Shepard for his involvement with Cerberus, despite being REPEATEDLY told that Cerberus are the only ones doing anything about the human disappearances and that going with them is strictly a temporary evil (if you're a paragon). Garrus at least has the decency to admit having Cerberus on board was kind of nice, if only for the equipment and resources, even if the relationship was bound to be shortlived.

Then it's the melodrama...

Loyalty Mission:
Tali: Shepard, I'm scared because I have to go on trial and I don't know why, and I can get exiled, please hoooold me!
Shepard: You risk your life every day fighting Reapers, collectors and mercenaries, but you're scared of going to a trial? I'd rather go on trial than fight, all day every day of the week.
Tali: Also, pls don't involve Cerberus, I don't like them.
Shepard: I'm working for them, using their equipment, serving on their ship with their crew and I report in to their leader - they cannot not be involved in any feasible way.
Tali: But still.
Shepard: Well I can't do anything about it, so deal with it.
Tali: CERBERUS IS BAAAAD :'(

Tali: You stupid bosh'tet, admiral Koris, you!
Shepard: *whispering* Psst, insulting your judge might not be the best way to get exonerated.
Tali: *politically insensitive temper tantrum*

Tali: OH NO, Shepard! My dad is dead! Please give me some sympathy! :'(
Shepard: My entire family was murdered on Mindoir, and my team of 50 marines were killed on Akuze by thresher maws. Where is your sympathy for me?
Tali: That blue thing is flashing! Please hug me!
Shepard: Why? I've already maxed my paragon points.
Tali: :'(

=]5 minutes later...-_-

Shepard: Well, what do you know... your dad is quarian hitler. You know, the little sympathy I had back there when we found him? It's gone now.
Tali: :'(
Tali: Shepard, because my dad dun goofed, we have to withhold the evidence so he won't get historically demonized for something he was legally and morally responsible for, even if it means I get exiled which I was mortally afraid of just a couple of hours ago.
Shepard: Wait, you want us to withhold the evidence JUST to prevent his name from being rightfully smeared? Not to, I don't know, keep your people together so they can help me fight the Reapers when that day comes?
Tali: :'(
Shepard: Are... are you grimacing under there? I can't see a thing. The visor is too opaque.
Tali: :'(

Romance:
Shepard: Hey, Tali, I just wanted to come down and hear how the engines are runni-
Tali: Shepard I have loved you from the first day I saw you and every day since.
Shepard: Wait, what? I just gave you some geth data, Jesus Christ.
Tali: <3

Tali: Shepard, having sex with you might kill me, but I want to do it because i LOOOOOOVE you. *swoon*
Shepard: Trust me, I'm not that good.
Tali: TAKE ME TO PLEASURETOWN, CAPTAIN.
Shepard: I should go.

Confrontation with Legion:
Tali: Shepard, I want to shoot Legion into scrap metal because he tried warning his people that my people are still butthurt over them getting defeated and driven off the homeworld in a fair war against the geth after trying to perpetrate unwarranted genocide against them for becoming too intelligent and self-aware to maintain as willing slaves, and that my people will attempt to attack the homeworld and destroy the geth despite the geth being perfectly willing to give the planet away if the quarians could just get their heads out of their own asses, calm down and stop being so belligerent.
Shepard: EDI just noticed an outgoing data package to the Migrant Fleet containing information from the Heretic Station, so I don't really know what you're getting so asshurt over. Leave Legion alone.
Tali: *racially insensitive temper tantrum before storming off*
Legion: Tali-Creator seems unaware that our exterior shell is 72% polymer.
Shepard: *shrug*

That's not arrogant nor snappy at all.

Just not very smart.
OK I can at least where you're coming from here.
Not agreeing but OK.

Well you do have to see from Tali's side that Cerberus killed a lot of her people in Ascension. So her being rude to Jacob is not something out of her character.

Also that scene makes Jacob a bit awesome for pretty much saying "f*ck you" to Tali for being very rude to him.
Of course, most fanboys (not just for the ME franchise) like belligerent tsunderes with an attitude, so this might not be such a big surprise.
Point?
And really, the writers were NOT subtle with her Shepard worship. That's a very petty argument.

Even if she did only did that, I don't think she would be responsible for Geth finding them and slaughter them.

Quarian Marines aren't really impressive( their failure to take over that ship in Tali LM).

So not really Tali to blame.

Then again Tali did had quite a ride with Shepard.
How many times you have opportunity to save galaxy?

Ascension.

Check Wiki if you can't get the book.

Also she's nothing more anti-Cerberus then Anderson on Citadel.

That didn't happen.

Also she's being trial for TREASON! And doesn't know why.
I don't think I would much different if my country decided to trial me for treason without telling me why until I get to court.
Tali: You stupid bosh'tet, admiral Koris, you!

Not smart but not really something out of her character.

Where did she tell you "HUG ME" or asked for sympathy.

Wait, I can't avoid Liara's hugging no matter what.
Why you don't dislike her too?

THERE'S A CHOICE THERE!

Oh and same for Garrus in his romance.
Why ain't you b*tching about that too?

YOUR ALL MORE TALIMANCER THAN ME. YOU CANNOT HAVE OPINIONS. MY OPINIONS ARE THE ONE AND ONLY. REASONS BEHIND MY OPINIONS DON'T HAVE TO EXIST.

Okay honestly, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but as a rule of thumb, if your opinion is not a very popular one, it is sometime best to not discuss it.

A discussion like this would be far better if everyone in it was unbiased in every single way, but such a thing like that is impossible in society.

I think the Tali romance was good. I don't think it was pushed to the fanbase at all. But, that said, I'm a Talimancer.
