Any substance to this?

http://www.escapistm...e-Up-Once-Again

http://www.computera...nline-missions/

I didn't see a thread on it so... what are everyone's thoughts?

If Bioware would like to chime in I'd be of course excited, but not holding my breath for it. Personally, I welcome any step the franchise takes towards multiplayer, especially a form that seems like it won't impact Shepard's story in any way.

Here we go again

You haven't seen any threads on this because they have all been locked.

This isn't a "I think it should have multiplayer because X!" thread though. This is about what the journalists think based on their industry sources, and it wouldn't be the first time Bioware was made aware of news via the forum. They may not know that this misinformation is being spread about their game (or, more hopefully, that there is a genuine leak.)

BioWare devs have stated it is a SINGLE PLAYER GAME.

And yes they know because at least once a day somebody makes a new thread about it. Sometimes more.

Pretty sure they know about the MP rumor. Especially since these forums have been getting thread on them several times a day since the rumors started. People have also asked the team via Twitter for confirmation on the rumors and so far we've been getting vague answers like "we're focused on single players".

There's no definite yes or no on MP in ME3. Just rumors right now.

Would standalone co-op missions, or a Horde-mode style game mode (both are suggested in the second link) be such a bad thing though? I would love to do a pit with waves of enemies (think Grunt's loyalty mission) with friends.

I think it's possible to discuss ways this could work positively/constructively without invoking the level of vitriol that derailed past MP-threads, whether the rumors are definitive or not.

Just because you don't see a thread on this topic on the front page doesn't meen there isn't one.

THE SEARCH BUTTON IS YOUR FRIEND.

And no, BioWare has not released any statement regarding these rumors.  They said earlier this would be a singleplayer game.

No matter what BioWare says or does not say they will be blasted for being evasive or lieing one way or the other. If BioWare can work multiplayer into the game without degrading the single player experience more power to them.

But if it comes to believing a Dev, or somebody who... isn't a Dev, I'll go with the devs.

Also, i can't find it now, but I'm sure SOMEBODY said it was a single player game on twitter, and I don't mean Christina Norman's "focused on" tweet.

Also, wasn't Evil Chris closing these things down a while back with "ME3 is a single player game"? Can't recall.

Meh. There is no way MP could possibly work in ME with the current classes without gimping the classes.

The Game Informer cover story for ME3 stated it wouldn't have a MP, but that was back in April/May so who knows.

The other question is, who would the other players control? Would it be, say, three Shepards, or a random N7 squad, or Shep as host and squadmates as the others?

Assuming this is true, which would you guys prefer to see?

You would have to be generic human soldiers because anything else would be horrendously imbalanced. So you'd basically be a Soldier class without any of the signature abilities, again balance.

Single players games don't need to worry about class balance in the same way as Multiplayer games do, simply because the player version of classes WILL NEVER MEET. They would need to seriously gimp the classes to balance them and you'd end up with a crappy generic shooter.

The idea of Multiplayer for ME literally disgusts me.

I think it's true. Bioware just doesn't want to admit it... yet.

=3

I wouldn't mind a multiplayer, I'd try it.
Though it would be lame if that was the reason for the delay to 2012 but it's probably a strategic business decision.

I don't see MP being a practical addition to ME3. If the rumors turn out to be true and they develop a MP for ME3, its going to have a "tacked-on" feel to it. Its 9 months until the release date, if they started to work on the MP system now it would probably be really glitchy and have a lot of flaws in it even if the Devs tested it 1000 times over and made it to the best of their abilities.

Then when the game comes out for us to play, they're going to get complaints and feedback from people who hate the system or what needs to be improved on. With ME3 being the end of the trilogy and Shepard's story, there wouldn't be a continuing game to make the improvements on.

Sure they could keep going with the ME franchise and make a spinoff game to put the improvements into, but then there is the possibility of that game having a completely different gameplay style. Those are just my thoughts on it though. If ME3 ends up with a MP, I'll most likely just not touch it.

This doesn't make any sense to me; soldiers are the strongest class in ME2. Also, see the next point.

So you'd basically be a Soldier class without any of the signature abilities, again balance.

If the multiplayer modes are co-op - i.e. you and your friends vs. hordes of husks/mercs/geth/collectors, balance isn't an issue. You can make different classes better at different things, e.g. having the engineer classes be good at taking down geth but poor at taking down varren.

It's not like the AI is going to complain to Bioware that we're blowing through it.

The idea of Multiplayer for ME literally disgusts me.

Putting aside that it's strange to have feelings this strong about a game, the multiplayer projected so far is standalone and has nothing to do with the main plot. If you don't want to play these predicted modes, nobody would be forcing you to do so.

Ahh, yes, "Multiplayer", the game mode that allows multiple players to allegedly play together in the same game.. We have dismissed that claim.. <_<
