I have seen a few forum posts involving this, but have not found any decisive fixes other than avoiding it entirely. When killing any Terentatek, upon it's death the resulting gas cloud causes the game to crash.

The few forum posts I found on this suggest not looking at it, or reverse-engineering the game's code to remove the gas cloud enitrely, which I'd rather not do.

Does anyone have any fixes that perhaps work better? Has there been a patch or anything like that?

I am using the version that came with the "Best of PC" set (includes: KOTOR, Battlefront, Jedi Outcast, Republic Commando, and EAW).

Any help would be appreciated.

I have the exact same problem, I can't kill them without the game crashing. I've even tried to not look at the gas, but it doesn't matter it crashes anyways. I find this strange because I could kill the one on Kashyyyk without any crashing but the ones in Korriban causes my game to crash.

Ok I have a fix for you, it isn't state of the art, but it works. It invovles camera angles. What I suggest you do is that you evade the Terentateks and go to the room with the grenades, from there go to the opening where the Terentateks should bunch up, damage each of them to as little health as possible. Then throw a thermal detonater at them, but once you throw it, look in the opposite direction, so you don't look at them. If you did it right, the game won't crash.

if you download the KOTOR Patch 1.03 it does fix this problem.

This is an old thread, but I just started playing KOTOR on Window 7 and ran into this annoying crash. I found a fix that get rid of this problem without avoiding the gas cloud animation...or anything else that is tricky. This problem is not fixed by any patch.

When you start KOTOR press CTRL+ALT+DEL and select the Swkotor process, right-click and change the processor affinity to one CPU core (in my case CPU 0). This made the crash stop immediately and has worked consistently.

Hopefully anyone else using web searches finds this solution here and skips the frustration I went through. The problem is caused by poor multi-core support of the KOTOR engine from what it seems.

Hope this helps!
