So that scene where she was flopping around was so hilarious.
I know it was supposed to be tragic but she didn't really strike me as a realistic mother character and I couldn't relate to her.
I disliked her from the moment when your sibling dies and her reaction is to turn on her remaining kid.
No mom I know would do that.
I have know mothers with similar losses and thier reaction was to overprotect the others.
I really wanted to have a option to tell her off at some point.

Not... very? I don't know, but it was pretty sad for me. She wasn't a perfect mum but most aren't.

I didn't find it funny. Though I find this idea of what is permissible mom behavior to be a little funny.

I was horrified. Also, she didn't turn on me when my sibling died. The most she said was, "Why didn't you stop him/her?" Which I felt was understandable in the moment of grief.

And if you pick the snarky option in a later conversation (I think it's the one about Mom's parents), Hawke will say something like "Glad you're not blaming me anymore" (which made me go ) and she'll apologize for saying that.

Edit: And I was also horrified. That was such a great quest.

it was a very good scene in my opinion especially if you get really engrossed into the DA story you do feel for Hawke and his/her mum in the situation.

But when playing it a second time when to be honest I was not hat engrossed because of how I felt after finishing it I thought it was cringe worthy

I laughed the second time I went through that part. I was pretty sad when I first played it.

I'll admit, when I saw what had been done to her it did make me wanna vomit because she was used like that.

Gut-wrenching.

Not funny at all. People whining about how Hawke's mommy hurt their feelings when she lashes out in grief is hilarious on the other hand. :P

Yes, that line puzzled me also. I ended up assuming that Hawke was talking about the, "Why didn't you stop them?" line, in which case I felt Hawke's paraphrasing was a bit off. I was even more puzzled when Carver said, "Wait, I'm sorry. It's like mother, taking it out on us. She was just scared." I was like, "What are you talking about."

Not funny, but I thought that scene could have been done better. When the camera closes in on her the first time, it shows her neck being colored a sick grey and with a red, jagged line cut horizontally across it and I knew immediately what the bastard had done to her and it sort of sucked the dramatic tension out of it.

No, she says It's your fault.
And the whole family is suffering not just her.
She never even tries to comfort her surviving kids.
I feel a lot worse for the surviving twin than her.
according to what Carver says she never stopped taking it out on them.
It's like mother, taking it out on us. he says.
She just doesn't seem to care about her other kids until right before she dies.

Her appearance was not the biggest problem with that quest line. What bothered me was that hawke just forgets about the whole problem of the serial killer after Emeric dies until Mom gets taken, and her resemblance to Quentin's dead wife seems too coincidental. Plus, what sort of noblewoman would go wandering into the slums alone to visit a relative? Why not invite him to the estate or (if she's afraid he'll steal the silverware), bring or guard or two. Or maybe, you know, her son?

I think that the blame dialogue is meant to show that Hawke had stepped in to be the head of the family - as the oldest, he/she was probably expected to protect the twins. Having lost her husband, then a child, Leandra is most likely just striking out at the one person who may have been able to change the horrible events since the escape from Lothering. It's not unheard of for that sort of blame or lashing out to occur when someone is grieving.

I haven't done a playthrough with Carver as the surviving twin, but Leandra does talk to Hawke about him and does express remorse for harsh things she may have said. In Act 1 though, Leandra is unhappy, grieving and worried over the family's state of affairs. In Act 2, she has a better sense of peace and does mention going to see Bethany, so I don't know that we can say she doesn't care about her other children.

For me it was the opposite. When I saw the glimpse of gray skin and the autopsy-like scars, I felt a sickening stab of dread at the idea of seeing the rest of her. I went, "Oh no..." and when she finally stood up and faced the camera fully it was Horror City.

Sorry  I sometimes forget that "better" is as objective as "what appeals to me personally". I wonder if Mother was still alive when he cut her up? If she could see herself, her head being attached to other women's bodyparts? That's a really sucky way to go.

No apologies necessary. I do think the quest could've been a bit better -- it horrified me, but didn't please me, and I'm not one of those people who are pleased to be horrified -- and I wish that using Gascard's blood magic to find the place had led to some noticeable improvement in how the quest played out.

It did if you were a diplomatic hawke. Magical fisting Gascard was my favorite part of it...then MK. (Don't bring Varric with you if you want to go that route).

Very good observations OP.

Leandra strikes me more as Hawke's other, less mature (than Bethany) younger sister. I can see where Carver's immaturity comes from.

Genetically speaking, it is no wonder Hawke often acts like a bumbling idiot. Just look at Leandra.

While not really funny, it wasn't dramatic either and it could've been handled better.

And I'm just waiting for somebody to make a fan music video of this and Thriller playing in the background.

I liked the build-up to zombie mom, but wasn't surprised or horrified. I don't get the whole zombie thing - as soon as you say zombie, I say budget movie with tired humour.

Shrugged at the "Possession of Ninette", "Possession of Leandra", etc.

I didn't find that scene amusing at all, or sad for that matter lol. It was stupid as hell whenever it plays i always think to myself. "Another reason, among many of why DAO's story is far superior to this"

Tbh for me that was the lowest point in the story for me. But yeah i must confess I didn't like Leandras character anyway
