Hello.  I have run into a bit of a problem.  A while back, I arrived at the tower of mages to discover there was trouble.  I talked to the Templar, and perhaps rushed my way through the conversation; the end result was that the door to the tower remains locked.

At the time, I thought perhaps I was missing something, and decided to return to it after I completed another quest.  I have now played for at least another 10 hours, and have returned to the tower to discover the door is still locked, and the only conversation options left with the head Templar are his standard questions.

I tested it quickly with an earlier save, and running through the conversation ended with the door being unlocked; the problem is, I cannot face returning to that point, as it would mean repeating the quest for andrastes ashes, as well as repeating all the quests in Orzammar.

Has anyone else come across this problem, and is their a solution?

Shameful bump, but apparently this issue has brought my game to a halt; I have Redcliffe, The dwarves and the elves all on my side, but I cannot proceed to the next part of the quest because the Arl of Redcliffe keeps telling me to go off and gather all my allies.

It would seem that iether the mages or the templars are supposed to be there, but as I cannot get the door to the tower to unlock, I am stuck.

Please say there is a solution to this; I fully intend on playing through the game again at a later point, but I have no interest in replaying 10 - 15 hours of quests just to open a door.

Thats... odd, the door should have locked behind you... not in front. Not sure how to fix this honestly.

Yeah, apparently I am screwed......I dont mind replaying the game once I have completed it, but to repeat 15 hours of play purely because of one bug......I cant face it.

Has anyone else had this problem, or does anyone know of any cheats which could be used to bypass/go through the door?

Bump......I have put in a support request via EA, but I feel happier working on two fronts.

I am completely stuck until this problem is resolved.

Well, I now know where the issue lies at any rate. I checked an old save and compared the results. Basically, my quest status page currently states that I should check further, which is the same message I would get if I had told the templars I was not ready to make the choice yet.

What SHOULD happen, is that when I talk to the templar again, there should be an option to go ahead and enter the tower; on the current save, that option is missing. If I could find some way to restart the conversation, it would surely re-appear. Surely that is a possible solution.

I have a somewhat similar issue on one of my characters. I can't get into Orzammar. The guard won't give me the dialogue option to show him the treaties. Therefore I am stuck till I figure out a way to reset the dialogue somehow. I am hoping someone stumbles across this post and can show us some way to change our game save files. I'm thinking the problem lies in the save game because creating a new character does not reproduce the fault in my case.

Yeah; on an older save, the quest works; something obviously got messed up the first time I ran through it. I would return, but I have something like 15 hours of play time since then; I really dont want to repeat it.....I just need some way to restart the "broken circle"quest.

I have not actually done any of it as yet, so it does not seem like an unreasonable request.

Check your Journal update for "Broken Circle" and read what the quest says...

Allready did. It says I should investigate further, which after some testing with an old save, is what I get told when I have decided not to go ahead with the quest yet. In the working save, the templar has a dialogue option where I can tell him I am ready to go ahead with the quest. In my currrent save that option is missing.

I cant go back to the old save, because I have completed all the other major quests since then, and I really dont fancy replaying 15-20 hours of gameplay.

As an added bonus, it has now been almost 48 hours since I put my help request in to EA, and still no response.

All I am looking for is some way to restart the templars dialogue, or the quest.  Surely it is not impossible to simply reset that quest, considering I have not actually started it yet.

I have the same exact problem, and have pinned down the reason. I replayed different dialogue options from an old save and found that if you ask him "Is that all you can offer?" and then he tells you about the magical artifacts, and you reply "I'll think about it," you will no longer have the conversation option to enter the tower.

I have about 6 hours of playtime past this point, I cant imagine 15! There has to be something they can do...

go to http://dragonage.wik...om/wiki/Console

and then use this command:

runscript zz_jump_around - Teleports you to set teleport points on the current map. (E.G. Map transition points.)

Happy to say that your suggestion has worked for me as well. I had to use the command several times till it dropped me in the correct place, but then the movie ran showing the templars locking the door behind me, and the quest page finally updated.

Kind of messed up that even when I went to the official EA support, they just redirected me to public forums to get a solution.......just as well people on the PC are generally capable of figuring things out for themselves huh :)

If you have an auto-save available right before the last battle, you might try to re-fight the battle, then when Irving asks you to take him downstairs, tell him you still want to look around. Then, try going down the stairs and accept his request to go down. This worked for me after I ran into the same bug, so perhaps it'll work for you.

Bioware's performance this time around has been disappointing, after so many games without running into bugs, I run into 3 in a single game. I fear their association with EA has damaged them.

Heh, thanks, but that wasnt actually the problem; The script had broken down before I could start the quest.

Fortunately, thanks to Kyndbuds and his tip (above), I was able to bypass the problem and jump start the quest.

As for the game, it does have its bugs, but we should see some fixes before to long; as far as the game itself goes, they have succeeded in the primary goal of giving us an amazing RPG experience.
