I noticed something along those ... I think it was during my first runin with Fenris's former master during my first playthrough. My main character (a 2H beserker vanguard) was trying to hack away at him, but Merrill had beaten him to the punch and I had to wait for the CP to expire before he could get his licks in ... and I noticed that the Big D was pretty much stuck motionless, at the top of the stairs (Hanged Man) while the CP was going. Accordingly, I fine tuned my spell tactics for CP thereafter.
Case in point: I rarely used the "enemy class: mage" conditional for anders or merrill anymore. For them, I found it more timely and tactically effective to use the conditionals for whether or not an enemy was casting offensive magic, or had (or was erecting) a defensive buff spell. For the former, they cast CP (which as observed above seemed to do a good job of disrupting/preventing offensive spells for the duration while also doing DD), and for the latter they did Transmutation (which effectively converted the enemy buff into a low-powered group heal, while also doing DD to the target). Both options seemed slightly more optimal than just automatically throwing CP for direct damage.
BTW, a reminder for onlookers who havent coded it yet, CP has a nice damage bonus against (if I recall) "Enemy Status: STAGGERED", so if you have the spell, that conditional should be placed high up in your tac list, right after your healing logic, and right after your Chain Lightning (which has a similar bonus, but which hits more targets). My CP vs STAGGERED usually goes off when my CL vs STAGGERED is on cooldown, and with both Merril and Anders having the same pair of lines, it makes for good crowd control if you have a hasted vanguard beserker on point, with a high critical chance to generate lots of staggers.
