I am level 8 or something right now, and I am getting absolutely MANHANDLED by Jax in the Citidel Markets doing that stupid side quest for Chellick. I am not a specter yet, I probs should go get that done first so I have Unity. But still! The problem is, I can damage an enemy with powers, but I can't finish them. Then they hide behind cover and fully regenerate everything. I can't go after them because the 2nd guy will kill me. It's just hellish!
You guys have any tips?

Yes, don't fight Jax - finish the deal and go back to Chellick.VirtualAlex wrote...

Later on with immunity and Barrier, Wrex is a pretty tough hombre, but before you get there you NEED the crowd control of Biotics. If you can get an adept past 20 or so levels then it gets easier, and if you get into the 30s it becomes a pretty easy game, just a bunch of skeet shooting. I really don't like insanity because of this, everything has huge hp, and it is a huge timesink to play, not so much hard once you get past 20-25 levels.
Soldiers pop immunity and blast everything.
Biotics lift/singularity/warp everything and shoot them while the float.
Techs disable all weapons/abilities and blast everyone.
It is the exact same thing on lower levels it just takes half the time. If you enjoy that kind of thing more power to you, but for me it is boring and to an extent frustrating have to deal with immunity spamming ME1 insanity.

The typical process of work would be to finish the game once and then import the character to a New Game+. I consider it a shortcut to make the game more interesting instead of being a drag, without really breaking it into something you can't do otherwise.

Agree with that!Waltzingbear wrote...
You can use the command console to just give XP at the start. I usually jumpstart my characters to about level 30 at the start of the game.

If you've already experienced building different characters over several playthroughs, then better not to inflict the pain on yourself from starting a new one from scratch; especially because the first playthrough is essentially irrelevant, with its only purpose being to boost level.

Judging from the profile of the OP I'm gonna guess that he's on the 360. One thing you can do that will help is make sure to abuse the Dr. Michel buy/sell exploit on the Citadel. That way you can have two complete sets of spectre vii guns, all the grenade upgrades, 2 medigel upgrades, a medical exoskeleton viii and various other goodies that are more powerful than you'd normally have at that level.
Can you please tell me more about this? I am not familiar with it.
Edit: I googled it, and found this
Infinite creditsThe following trick only works between the two indicated vendors. You can usually buy items back from Expat at half the price you sold them to Dr. Michel for. First, successfully complete the side quest involving Dr. Michel (from the Med Clinic) and her blackmailer. After the quest is complete, you will get a discount from all the goods she sells. Start selling her all of your expensive equipment. Then, travel to the Wards Markets, and talk to the merchant named Expat. You can buy all of your items back for cheaper than you sold them for. Return to Dr. Michel, and sell her all of your items again. Repeat this process as many times as desired.
So I do a mission for her (different than the garrus recruitment mission? How do I activate it? I do not recall.) Then I sell HER all my items. Then I go to Expat and "Buyback" all my items. Loop it, right?

How do I access this quest for her? is it different than the Garrus recruitment quest? Once I have the discount I sell her all my stuff, then go buy it back from expat over and over?

As far as buying and selling, sell to the doctor, but you can buy back from any merchant. Expat is just convenient, since he's next to the fast transit station. Repeat until you have as many credits as you want. It helps to spend the credits you make on higher end gear as you go. Note that the buy back menu is limited to the last 20 items sold, and is shared between merchants.
It helps to hit the other merchants to see what they have, things like the grenade upgrades are scattered around, so you have to check with different merchants to find them all. Sometimes the Hanar in the Presidium will have some decent mods as well. The best items though are the spectre guns sold by the c-sec supply guy, the Normany quarter master, and the medical exoskeleton 8 that Dr. Michel has.

It is possible to do a level 1 fresh start playthrough with an Adept (I've done it) but you will spend 2x the time you normally would & must play very deliberately. It's fun only for the challenge but the NG+ method using a prior finished game character is preferred. Once you hit around level 30, things get a little better but one key to making Insanity easier is the armor you have (defenses are critical in Insanity) & a top bio-amp (or tech omnitool upgrades for your tech members). These will enable you to survive & dominate the battlefield. So I would recommend as you've seen above to do all non-combat quests first to get your level up. If you have Pinnacle Station & can get the apartment unlocked (not easy on Insanity btw), you can use it to unlock Colossus armor. If you don't, you can still do it (I did this my first time w/Adept) but it's much more painful until you get some top armor & bio-amps/tech upgrades You need lots of shields, max barrier immediately, & pick your squadmates carefully. You need at least 1 damage dealer (Ashley or Wrex) always. I would in fact recommend for areas that you can return to freely, to take both damage dealers, clear the area, & then go get your tech specialist to do all your crate unlocks with no combat pressure. Once you get good armor & bio-amps, you'll be in much better position. BTW, any squadmates you use in combat will need the same: great armor & upgrades, or they will die quickly too.

Well, since the thread was scavated from the grave...
The thing with insanity is changing the 'normal" game strategy. For example, the engineer.
You know, the most 'hated' class from ME1 & ME2 (I'm kidding), the punny and weak engineer. LOL
Normally you wouldn't choose as a talent bonus the shotgun for him, but you know what? On insanity this actually is very recommended, since the enemies all have immunities and most of the time they will be on your face, so is good to have something with more punch.
Or for example, the squadmates. Usually people recommend Wrex for tanking and Liara for crowd control and this still holds true, but sometimes is extremelly better having Garrus instead of Wrex with you, because he have damping and then enemies can't use their immunities while Liara provides crowd control and you blast the guys to the sky.
Or ammo, for example. Sure shredder ammo is the best damage overall, but since the enemies have protection - specially krogan battlemasters - I like to use sledgehammer rounds on my shotgun when dealing with them. After a few shots they fall to the ground and they stay there until they are dead or you stop shooting.
Armor, since you pick the topic is extremelly subjective. Take Liara/Kaidan for example, they can only wear light versions, wich the exception of Colossus simply suck hard in the damage protection department.
When I'm able to get my hands on a light armor Titan level V or above I simply do not switch it unless is for a Colossus. Why? Because this armor has the best damage protection of all light armors (even Armax Predator L), good tech/biotic protection, but low shields. The solution is using two shield modulator/shield interface with version VII and above.
Liara has eletronics, wich gave her a boost of 240 points if you raise the talent to advanced level (wich you should, BTW); if you have an Titan VII armor add more 190; put two shield modulator VII and you will end with the same ammount of shields as if she was wearing a Predator L armor, but with far greater protection.
I'm sure people have other strategies and preferences regarding equipment as well.

I don't know what bonus power you have, a lot of people recommend lift or throw for a soldier but on insanity warp is a lot more useful; just use it against someone with immunity and warp and you'll actually do some damage.
Try to get Wrex asap with him and kaidan you'll have some crowd control. And after you first visit to the citadel do the Liara mission first. She and Kaidan give you a lot of crowd control. Though sometimes I switch Kaidan for Tali on a Geth heavy mission.
And play very defensively. You should play like you're playing ME2 use cover a lot and if you're almost dead just find the nearest cover use a medigel and wait for you shields to recharge. Use the explosive cannisters in the enviroment and use your grenades they can knock enemies over giving you plenty of time to shoot at them. And if someone gets close punch them, it's especially effective against barrier users cause it will hit through their shields.
Pistol's are the highest DPS weapons in the game, but you don't need them. I've done it with AR's and Shotguns. And you also don't need to do that money glitch. OP weapons take the challenge out of insanity mode. But try to get Immunity asap, once you have it and some decent armor you can play a lot more aggresively.
And last know your sidemissions. Some sidemissions are easy and great for some extra exp, but some are harder than the main missions. They aren't impossible cause I've done all the ones that were available after getting Liara, but they can get pretty tough.
And that's all. I hope you'll find some of it useful.
EDIT: And now I'm seeing this topic was made two years ago.. Well maybe someone can learn something from it.

My reason for my adept playthrough? lift. just... lift.. It's a one point wonder, though putting more points in it makes it even more amazing. charging destroyer? lift them and make them fly off the map, or into a wall, making them easy pickings for your squad.
Also. Team balance is 100% essential in insanity. Without a proper balance of biotics, tech and combat, you're going to be missing absolutely vital abilties to tear down an enemy's defenses and finish them. Also worth noting. Krogan can't regenerate if they're under the effects of warp, throw, or lift. basically, if they're affected by physics, or something that stops regen, they go down, and stay down. save your throw and lift for that oh **** moment when krogan charge.
Wonder if that's everything I remember... If i realize I forgot anything, I'll edit.
