Why is it that people hate the fact that KOTOR got turned into an MMO and that ME might get an MMO after ME3?
I think it would be pretty cool to have an ME3, creating your character from any race, then running around a fully designed Citadel or Omega with your friends, or having your own customizeable starship. You could be a miner, or a merchant, or be a freelance merc, or join one of the Terminus Merc bands, the list goes on.

A company running two MMOs at the same time? Good luck with that if your hoping either will be a "WoW-slayer". I also have yet to find a MMORPG that doesn't get boring after awhile.

People are whiney and do nothing but **** about multiplayer in games.

Personally, I think the Mass Effect universe is great grounds for something along the lines of an MMO, but it's a longshot.  The Old Republic isn't even out yet, two MMO's from Bioware?

I've yet to find any game that doesn't get boring after a while.

I'd love a good MMO. What people fear is a bad MMO which ruins the IP.

I feel I get burnt out on some games after a while but after a hiatus I can revisit them and have fun again.  I still play my Dreamcast religiously.

MMORPGs make you feel obligated to play because you have other online friends who are depending on you.  I don't want that kind of responsibility when playing a game.  It's a leisure activity, not a job.

Short answer: http://static.fjcdn....d15c_198209.png

Long answer: In terms of storytelling, an MMO where you "farm for items and do quests as groups" where teens flirt or talk about sports can never reach the prestige of a single player RPG. Judging by what we've seen so far, TOR doesn't look promising at all, and KotOR 3 with much less amount of resources could be a much greater game.

Personally I'll play The Old Republic after it flops (which unfortunately, it will) and enjoy its content as a F2P MMO.

i dont think SWTOR will do as well as EA and bioware hope it will, so i doubt they'd double down and make another MMO.

as for MMO's in general? well its that they're extremely EXTREMELY huge time sinks. you gotta play for a month to even start doing the good dungeons. it gets tedious really fast. the only time i ever had fun playing MMOs was when i was playing with a group of friends, and then it was more about me and my friends hanging otu and chatting than the actual game itself.

The huge timesink thing makes sense. But the people who have the time are also the ones that start spitting acid as soon as TOR is mentioned. Looks like it's just a drastic change for the developer that always made epic single player RPGs and people are just reacting badly.

The players can never be allowed to do anything that has any impact on the game at all.

Plus most of them are based almost entirely on grinding and slot machine mechanics.

It's not that I don't want an ME MMO because I hate MMO's, but because I want Bioware to keep focusing on SP RPG's.

Making an MMO would sink a lot of time/resources from the ME team in something I don't really care about, I mean, I don't want to be selfish or anything if there's an audience that wants BioWare to do it I understand, personally I just don't like the idea.

Bioware's very evasive about that. All they said is that it will be out sometime this year.

I don't have the time for an MMO, and I don't have the interest in playing with other people. When I want to hang out with people, I want to actually do things: go out and party, play sports, or just hang out and chill. An SP game is my 'time alone' release. An MMO is the opposite of that.

BW's already gone down the MMO road. They have still made sp experiences. Will that continue in the future? Who knows, but the cat's already out of the bag. TOR is exciting to me in that it is many single-player experiences all in one (100+ hours of material per class? With multiple branching story points? With the ability to forge relationships, romantic and otherwise, with NPCs? YES PLEASE.), but with all the multiplayer experiences individuals desiring such mechanics could desire.

MMO's are not always designed to require you to interact with other players in any meaningfully deep capacity. In all the MMO's I have played, I have largely played as a solo gamer (and ventured into group experiences just to see what it was like...or because I pitied another player who needed help.).

That isn't to say I am ignorant of many of the worries expressed. I do share them and have seen many bad MMO's drag companies under, and have seen otherwise good MMO's get dragged under by bad companies. But there is also the potential for something really wonderful.

People here hate MMOs because they are primarily single player gamers. Go to the SWTOR forums and you will find people who love MMOs and hate single player games.

Because you aren't necessarily paying to play with other people.  You would be, of course, if those are the mechanics you want to take advantage of.  No, initial box sales are normally meant to recoup costs of development and
initial set-up of infrastructure, advertising, and so forth.  The subscription is because you are directly paying for the continued upkeep of the game (servers, electricity and other utilities, developer salaries, staff, etc.) and continued content creation.

This. You are one of a million 'nobodies' in an mmo. In Baldur's Gate II, you were the Bhaalspawn. In Jade Empire, you were the last of the spirit monks. In Origins, you were the hero of Fereldan. MMOs can't really offer that, not when every player must be treated equally.

I've also found that MMOs tend to be very 'grind-heavy' which is something I'm against. I like killing things, but moreso when there is a motivation involved. Bioware claims to be fixing this with TOR, but I'm not impressed based on what I've seen. I'd take KotOR 3 over the MMO in a heartbeat.
