Can someone confirm the structure of ME2 for me, in terms of when things happen and what triggers them (I've been trying to look it up, but can't get consistent/certain answers).

So, the first section of the game lasts up until you pick up Mordin, Garrus, Jack and Grunt, as when you do so, it triggers the attack on Horizon, and you have to go there. Until you pick them up, you can do any number of missions, right?

After Horizon, the options to pick up more of the crew open up (Tali, Samara, and Thane), and you then have 5 missions (of any kind) before the Collector Ship is found dead in the water, and you have to go there.

After the Collector Ship, you have the Reaper IFF mission, but you don't have to go to it immediately. Now here is where I'm unsure - can you do an unlimited number of missions before you go pick up the IFF?

After the Reaper IFF, the crew is then attacked by the Collector Ship - is this immediate? Or do you have a mission or two before it happens?

After the Crew Kidnapping, you then have to go on the Suicide Mission more or less immediately or the crew dies, yes?

After the Suicide Mission, you can do any remaining missions, correct?

If this is all neatly summarized somewhere, please forgive me and chuck a link my way.

Horizon part is correct.

You have to recruit two people before the attack on the collector ship is activated. I'm not sure if its one or two, its been awile since I played it.

The retrieval of the IFF can be done at any time. And you do ONE mission, and then once you go to activate the map for a second mission/travel, the attack begins. I usually do the Legion loyalty for the one mission.

For NO ONE to die, you must go into the Omega Relay right aways. If you do one mission, Kelly dies, and so on. But from what I have heard, Dr. Chawklas doesn't die at all.

After suicide mission, you can do any missions or side quests you like.

Just to be clear, between the Collector Ship and the Reaper IFF, you can do any number of missions, right?

Between the collector ship and Reaper IFF you can do any number of missions yes, this is the time most people do all the loyalty missions.

Between Horizon and Collector Ship it's any five missions, no minimum number of people you have to pick up, I've done the collector ship with zero of the new recruits, just Tali, and with all three new Dossiers.

After Reaper IFF the number of missions until the crew is abducted is based on how many missions left (I think). Once you complete all loyalty and dossier missions the abduction definently happens, but otherwise I don't know the exact number. You can usually do something like doing IFF with only Tali's loyalty mission left, do both Tali's loyalty mission and then Legion's, and then the collector ship abducts the crew.

Afterwards, if you go right away you save the entire crew, if you do only a couple missions then half the crew dies (including Chambers), if you wait beyond that then all the crew dies except for Chakwas.

Horizon is triggered by your level, not by who you recruit. The only person you actually need to recruit is Mordin. Once you have him, you can run around doing side quests, as well as Zaeed and Kasumi's loyalty missions, and once you hit a certain level, Horizon will trigger.
On the flip side, you can go along and recruit everyone, as well as doing the 2 DLC squadmate LM's, before recruiting Mordin and thus triggering Horizon. You will then be able to do Horizon with 2 loyal squadmates with bonus powers.
