I know there are stickys about this, and ive tried some of the solutions. i think in my case there might be other issues.

I bought da:origins when it came out, and played it, got the downloadable content and it worked great. I never got the expansion though. now that dragon age 2 has come out i decided to buy the expansion and play it before i went to the second game. I went on steam to buy it, but i saw that, for the same price as the expansion, i could get dragon age: ultimate, which included another copy of the game with the expansion and some extra DLC. so i got that instead. I installed it without uninstalling the original copy. Now i've got a mess

The DLC is all "Unauthorized", even though i am logged in and everything. I think a reason this might be is because...

theres no dragon age updater service on my machine. i saw this DA Update Service Diagnostic Beta thing on the forum, but i got a 404 error when i tried to go to it.

I apparently cant uninstall the original game now, as both "dragon age origins", and "dragon age origins ultimate" point to the dragon age ultimate

When i redeemed the code, it said it gave me an "unknown item". I already
had most of the DLC i was supposed to get with this, and it appears it
gave me what i needed though.

Also, after all that is resolved, I'd like to play the expansion without playing through the game again if thats possible, since i already played through the game twice. Im not sure how, or if, i can do this

You can install the DAOUpdater service manually following this FAQ : http://social.biowar.../58/index/81613

....3.2.3. Installing the Dragon Age Updater Service if it's missing

1.)
Windows XP :  Press the windows key + R (or click Start and then RUN) and type cmd and press ENTER
Windows Vista & 7 : Run CMD as administrator as per section 3.1.5
2.)
Naviguate to c:\\\\Windows\\\\Microsoft.NET\\\\Framework\\\\v2.0.50727\\\\
Perform these commands to do so (your prompt should be in Windows\\\\System32 by default) :
cd..
cd Microsoft.NET
cd Framework
cd v2.0.50727
installutil "C:\\\\Program Files (x86)\\\\Dragon Age\\\\bin_ship\\\\DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe"
net start DAUpdaterSvc

Make sure to use the path where your game is actually installed (something like c:\\\\Program Files\\\\Steam\\\\steamapps\\\\common\\\\Dragon Age\\\\ for Steam for exemple)

In case you don't have the exact same Framework version, etc... the Framework path won't work. I suggest you perform a normal file search in Windows for the file installutil.exe and note the full path and substitute your own folders to match.

You could also copy installutil.exe in your Dragon Age\\\\bin_ship\\\\ folder and simply dragging DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe on installutil.exe. As you can see it's way too hard to list all the possibilities here. It shouldn't be to hard to adapt this to your folders locations for most users.

To play the extension without playing through the complete game again, just choose "start a new game", then you should have the choise between a new DA:O or Awakening playthrough.
