Hi, I've just started playing DAO, but got stuck at the very begining.
I play the Human Noble route. After talking to brother and walk out his room, I was forced to go back my room and sleep. In the evening, I was awaken by noices outside and barks from the dog. After the dog barked a few times, the game was stuck - music and background noises running normally, character model was shaking around, just no next sentence. The screen would get stuck after one sentence from Iona, 'your hound looks angry and xxx', if I remembered correctly, if she is in my room.
My operating system is Win7 64bit, graphic card is Nvidia GT 540M, the game version is 1.03. I set the graphics/effects to either high or highest.
What could be the cause of the problem and how could I solve it?

Also, I've discovered another problem. When creating my character, I wasn't asked to edit the outlook of the character (only asked about the first name). I didn't notice that until someone reminded me. Could that be caused by the same problem?

You haven't provided all of the needed diagnostic information, but right from the top, I see you have a wrong idea.  You have only a MEDIUM performance video card.  You simply do not have the power to select either "High" or "Very High" without running into problems.

Part of what you want is what is called spoilers.  You want to know how to play the game, and you have, indeed, missed quite a few early scenes that you should have been involved in before retiring to your room.  Those are discussed (for the most part) in other forums here.

Pinned at the top of the forum are messages called "Stickies".  They are there to help you.  The one that starts out "Read First" is one that you should not have skipped, and you must go back to it and follow its instructions now.

Hey, GA.

For my first playthrough (which was a Human Noble) I did almost NOTHING in the Origin except the required actions to move the story forward (talk with Bryce, Howe, and Duncan... meet Dog and clear pantry, talk with Fergus..., might have had the conversation with Eleanor about "settling down...") then went to my room and was woken up by my Mabari.

Spent the next HOUR trying to find my way around/out of the Castle while figuring out the game controls and being stymied by barricades and fires (not to mention baddies) everywhere.

Had no idea there was so much more to "getting started". Posted Image

Turns out, except for a better understanding of my PC's situation in the game-world, (and the expereince for the Codex entries that provided them) I didn't miss very much that really mattered to the rest of the game. Posted Image

Now, I admit that after thirty years of game playing experience, I know to keep going as long as I am allowed, save very often, touch everything, talk to everyone, open anything, etc, that was really sort of incidental to the reply.

The author asked for help and didn't offer anything concrete that I could use to make a start on a diagnosis. He / she had ignored the stickies and not tried to make a search. I wanted him / her to start with the stickies. He or she seems to have ignored what I suggested as well.

Now, the weekend is here, and even if the author finally expands the question, hardly anyone will be around to read the added information.
