Sexing' Aliens a bad idea?

I found Miranda like the girls I couldn't stand in high school ("Don't hate me because I'm perfect and rich and accomplished....No one knows how trooooly horrible my privileged life is...") and the dialogue options to romance Jacob made me feel like a serial female predator, abusing a subordinant.
In a nutshell: Personality Counts.
The aliens in ME2 have good personalities and voice acting, which translate to nookie-appeal, at least for this girl. The alien physiques, for me at least, are fairly irrelevant. Ex. If Garrus had been a human male with the same voice, same mannerisms, same beliefs, etc., my femshep would have done him.
I certainly don't read Audubon Society Newsletters, visit the Reptile House at the zoo, or lurk in the dinosaur section of the Natural History Museum to get my jollies. I also do not look at Playboy/Playgirl either, as, once again, you can't really tell someone's personality by one risque picture, other than the person is the type who doesn't mind being photographed naked.
Is sexing aliens a bad idea? I don't think teenagers playing ME2 are suddenly going to start finding themselves turned on by ostriches or alligators. But they might be more open to a relationship with someone who isn't classically pretty or handsome, so long as that person has a good personality and a pleasant voice. If so, I am all for it.

In fact, every single LI but my chosen one is 'shoved in my face'. Thane? In my face. Jacob? Right in my face. They reduce my game, therefore no one else should have the option to choose them. The Garrus romance is the only one with any character development involved, because it's the only character development that I appreciate. All the rest are obviously just there because people are perverts, they couldn't possibly have personalities or stories of their own that I simply do not enjoy.
(Note: This post is tongue-in-cheek, if my intentions managed to slip by.

None of you guys are defending my real point; by Bioware forcing these romances that make no sense they've wasted effort and time. Your argument would make sense if it was about romance in general; you're b--ching about how you think it's weird but yet, at the same time, they should pour it into human romances. And the dog analogy doesn't work, because sentient alien life =/= friendly, but of questionable intelligence pet.

But why the alien thing in particular? I personally think that Shep shouldn't be romancing subordinates in the first place (and Bioware shouldn't be devoting resources to that) but really once you have romances in the game at all, why get mad about the interspecies ones?

I don't think you're seeing the big picture here. They are NOT wasting effort and time if people WANT these romances. And "a lot of resources in their development"? Where's the evidence? I'm sure you have none.
Another poster already made this point, but I'll say it again. Why does the each romance have to make complete logical sense? I like [insert love interest here] because I find his/her personality interesting and appealing. A romance isn't primarily about sex (for most people). It's about expanding the relationship with a character you like. This is evident from the personal conversations you have with them before the...well, you know. That's it. Why does it have to be more complicated than that?

[[/quote]Actually, you can ignore it. It's called using the middle repsonse instead of the top right one. If you always pick that one, you won't be in a romance with anyone.

not so. I picked that with tali so as not to be a dick and my shep decides to say "HE WANTS TO, but it's too dangerous" instead of just "it's too dangerous" as clearly labelled on the dialogue wheel.

But the guy who posted the James T. Kirk picture was right to a degree. Kirk had the wisdom to "I should go" at Warp 5 sooner rather than later.

I always used the middle response with Jacob with my femShep and never locked into a romance with him expect the only time I wanted to romance him. If I don't want to romance anyone, I just don't talk to them. Problem sovled. Does it take away from my game? To me no it does not. I play many ways and I have romanced everyone at least once with a different Shepard.
And I suppose I am a sci-fi nerd. That's fine with me, King Zeel, but you acting like a tool. So enough of you, bye bye.

I can sympathize. Tali kind of pulls me in that way too. I'm too weak to resist.

Yay I love xenophobic trollish threads!
To be fair to the OP I wouldn't say not wanting to have sex with aliens is xenophobic. There has got to be some species like vorcha, elcor, or hanar even BSN members won't want to sleep with...
or not...
