That's not what i said. It is not a sufficient reason to like them alone, no. But if I like them, it makes the difference in considering a romance or not.

Hm, makes sense. So the question becomes another: if your absolutely most favourite character was an alien, and a possible LI you won't romance him/her and pick an human LI you like less, only because you feel more disturbing dating a fictional character that's not of your same species? I'm not trying to trick you or what, I'm just trying to make you understanding my PoV: i like Tali and Liara as LI much more than any human romance, so considered the others LIs are still fictional as them, why I should be worried of interspecies issues and don't pick up them?

To make things clear: i do not find interspecies romance "disturbing". I find it implausible. It's something that I have a hard time suspending my disbelief for. It is a worldbuilding issue for me. So, it doesn't matter if I romance a non-human or another character does it. The problematic fact for me is that it's part of this sci-fi universe. Or of almost any sci-fi universe not plausibly built around that premise (which would mean that all species may look different but are biologically closely related). Perhaps it is hard to understand, but I do care about such things.

As for your question: I would probably romance no character at all in that case. All but one of my femSheps didn't romance anyone in ME2. But then, I don't like Garrus and find Thane only mildly interesting. I did romance Liara in one ME1 game with a femShep just to see what would become of it. But that's one of eight Shepards.

I can understand that, but if you can accept a multiracial society in the first place (one actual different species), then why not romance? Honestly, the universe Mass Effect presents us with is extremely implausible. Dozens of intelligent species living together in one civilization? Trading and making art together? Running governments together? Everyone on roughly the same technological level? They all speak the same language?

It's pretty silly. Truly Mass Effect is just the 19th century IN SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!

I'm not gonna go into this much, but the reason why it is actually not completely implausible. They don't even have to be closely related; if the primary sex organs are compatible, it's possible. Ain't saying it's easy or comfotable. But it's possible. Although I can see your point. Funny enough, the LIs for male Shepard are easier to accept IMO because they have boobs ----> mammals (or something similar).

Ah well. Language? That's what real-time translators are for, and is it so implausible they developed a lingua franca? Also, the galactic civilization is very old. Humans are newcomers, but the other races had centuries and more to organise a galactic government n' stuff.

And technology? May I quote Sovereign: "You develope along the paths we desire."

The Reapers developed the mass relays to make sure every sentient race would develope in a way that could be anticipated by the Reapers. As for everything else - just because it's a different planet the laws of physics are suddenly not valid anymore? There are only so many ways to advance in technology. There may be differences, but the basics apply everywhere. And as soon as you make contact to the galactic civilization, trade and commerce make it pretty easy to gain new technologies. It's a very sophisticated way of making sure there are no unpleasent surprises when the Reapers come to harvest.

It's one the asaris most insidious infiltration tactics. I believe the Alliance needs to create some legislation which prevents humans from being legally bound to asari offspring (such as being forced to pay child support) and which also ensures that asari children created in unions with humans will not ever be considered citizens of the Alliance or any human colony.

Nothing racist or irrational about it. The writing is on the wall. It's right there in the codex. It's how the asari maintain their dominance over the galaxy. If we're ever going to be on top we must take steps to prevent the infiltration of our culture.

If it's the 19th century in space I want us to be either Great Britain IN SPAAAAAAAAAAACE or America IN SPAAAAAAAAACE.
Because they both do rather well.

They went from "bad guys" to "somewhat helpful bumbling accidental allies" in 2 back to "Bad guys" for 3.

We're clearly America. We're "reckless", "uncultured", "new", "innovative", "blunt", "greedy", ect... The ME series is basically, all together, the World Wars which ultimately thrust America onto the top of the hill by deciminating all her rivals and forcing her to operate at peak capacity.

Yay! even when we get our asses handed to us we do better than everyone else.

...*eyes narrow suspiciously* Who's Great Britain (the empire that gets to fade away rather peacefully compared to everyone else, and who's Russia?

I'm not sure who Great Britain is. I'd say the Council as a whole is Great Britain. The Turians and Batarians both represent the same sort of opposition as Russia did. Though that goes for the Council too, honestly.

Well, I suppose the turians might be Russia and the batarians could be the Japanese.

We're always in some sort of rivalry with Russia on the world (galactic) stage, but when the big wars come we're always on the same side. We're both too powerful to want to risk a war with one another since we know that either one of us can, even in defeat, seriously wound the other.

Japan is distant, isolationist, very insular, and has a very low opinion of their neighbors. The batarians also incorpate some traits of... you know, that other country lead by that mustache guy.

And the Geth seem to be where this little comparison starts to fracture.

The Geth are too united (discounting the Heretics who have probably been mostly taken care of one way or another) , too militarily powerful, and too much of a potential wildcard to really fit that role.
At least for a 19th century-end of WW2 type analogy.

They're reclusive, religious, and mean. LIke I said at the start, the races don't singularly represent any nation aside from humanity clearly being AMERICA!

The others, collectively, represent America's rivals and enemies. They all share traits from various different nations.
