God, how is Mark Meer still employed? Even with a video full of lines, not one sounded like anything more than the monotone-i'm being-paid-to-read-this-crappy-voice-acting he usually does. I'm so disappointed, why do the female Shepard get a better voice actor than us?

Maybe, Bioware, next time spend less time on designing the character after a model and more time on finding a competent voice actor.

In ME1 Hale was terrific, then she went completely over the top in ME2. She sounds like the female version of Duke Nukem. It's absolutely cringe worthy.

LI: You know, Shepard... I've been waiting to hear something from you for a while now.
Shepard: Oh? What's that?
LI: Oh, just three important little words that kind of change everything...
Shepard: I should go?
LI: *facepalm*

Its especially funny after a character has said something embarrassing or told Shep something really personal. Seems like Shep has found the conversation too awkward so decides to leave. Conversations are a bit strange anyway, like Shep always saying "I want to ask about something else" who would say that? Its even stranger if Shep then decides not to ask something else and just says "I should go."

I hope we get to say 'I should go' when the Turian councillor asks for help against the Reapers.

Agreed. She was good in ME1, but I can barely listen to her in ME2. At least Mark Meer sounds normal.

I loved Hale in ME2. Renegade sounds like a total ****, which is perfect.

lol quality voiceacting? Femshepard? you mean Hale's "I have balls of steel even tho I am a woman" performance?

Look Mark Meer is incredibly talented, he voices also one of the most loved comic relief characters in the game, the biotic god. His delivery is flat for shepard because he tries not to put emphasis on parts of his speech that players might not intend to be that important or worthy of being underlined.

I'll take him over hale any day of the week

Meer is awesome. I prefer a performance that only punches the dramatic weight of a statement when it's appropriate and adds to the scene over one that's runaway emotional at all times.

Come on people, we all know by now that when people start debating Meer vs. Hale nobody wins, just take your preference and be happy with it, it's not a competition.

With that said, I should go..

This. I really dig Meer's acting. He only adds emotion when it's needed, trying to keep the neutral dialogue options, well, neutral.

No personal opinion on Hale, tho. I'm actually... neutral on her performance (heh). However, I preferred her acting in ME1.

Meer's great. Have you heard him doing stand-in work for Mordin in the E3 demos? Yep - that's him, not Michael Beattie.

And I like his approach for Shepard - has the same sort of steely stoicism that Christopher Reeve did for Superman. Heck, there's something very Reeve-ish about his tone of voice - maybe he could do Superman in a future animated feature. Hmm...

That said, I do like Jen Hale, too - much more wry, but equally appropriate. Nice that Male/Female Shepard have a different flavour other than just swapping the gender.

(indeed, the 'personality' of each performance has got me thinking in terms of DC/Marvel superheroes to a degree. Meer sounds like a typical lantern-jawed DC hero - driven, forthright, and every bit the knight in armour. Hale, on the other hand, sounds like someone dropped into a situation and rising to the challenge, á la Marvel. Basically, it's the difference between someone 'being born great', and 'having greatness thrust upon them' - hence the DC/Marvel parallel)
