 Hi,

So... I had an idea for a fanfic the other day. The thing is that I don't think I have the skill or dedication to actually do it justice - it needs a style of writing that I just can't manage (my writing tends to be rather teen-y, easy reading type).

The story brief is that of a Mass Effect / Noir cross-over, in which Les Soldats attempt to take back control of the galaxy's underworld from Cerberus. For those who haven't seen it (which I suspect will be many), Noir is an anime from 2001, produced by Bee Train, using music by Yuki Kajiura - I'd recommend it, although it's recieved several bad reviews. Despite the 'girls with guns' theme, it's a very heavy, thoughtful series that can be a bit arty at times. For those new to it, I'd definitely recommend using subtitles and the Japanese audio - while some thought went into the dub, the accents are all over the place and the voice actors aren't quite up to snuff.

That digression aside, I managed to write this much before realising that I couldn't cut it myself;

Reference/Start;In an ancient archive, agents of a society so secret that even some of its own, fanatically loyal servants did not know of its true existence hunted through ancient paper tomes. They did not truly know what they were looking for, only that somewhere among these sacred books was a manuscript that would restore them to their rightful place in the universe.With a cry of triumph, a nameless hunter found it. He pulled the leatherbound journal from the shelf and opened the cover to confirm the title:Le Grande Retour

Michel Blanc was a mid-level Cerberus operative, using his position in Citadel immigration to advance the cause of Humanity. He ensured that only those who could further to cause were granted timely entry into the 'neutral' government station, as dictated by his Cerberus contact, who went by the callsign 'Priestly'.He never heard the shot that felled him, since the shard of ferrous metal destroyed his brain before the sound could reach him. His was the last of five bodies that would baffle C-sec investigators due to condradictory evidence and impossible assumptions.What the C-Sec couldn' have known was that the linking factor was that all of the dead workers were Cerberus operatives, and that these deaths were merely the opening gambits of a shadow-war that would shift the balance of power in the galaxy irreperably.

Line break

Fifteen year old Chloe Lumen wasn't what you would expect a murderer to look like, and that suited her just fine. In any case, calling her a murderer would have been to insult the calling to which she had been given.Chloe Lumen was Noir.To be more accurate, she was a Sapling, one of the four candidates who may become Noir. These four formed the Inner Tree, once the weak branches had been pruned away through the gruelling, lethal trials.

The idea is that Les Soldats create a new Noir in order to fight against Cerberus and take back control of the criminal underworld and take back their power. They aren't aligned with the Shadow Broker, or any other faction - they are Les Soldats, with a history reaching back to the time of Christ.As with the original series, the Saplings should have different backgrounds, with at least one being raised solely to kill. In the sampler above, that would be Chloe Lumen (though of course, you don't have to use her!). Potentially there should be an Altena-type character who just wants Noir to adhere to their original purpose (hunting out evil people and offing them), while the majority of Les Soldats just want to have a pair of uber-assassins to wield for power.I'd recommend rewatching Noir all the way through, and reading "The Black Hands of Nerv", a Noir/Evangelion crossover fic on fanfiction.net, before attempting to take on the project. My other recommendation is that Shepard is not a Sapling, and in fact doesn't know about Les Soldats at all, and Noir only by reputation. I'd set the fic pre-ME1, or set it up so that the Final Trials are taking place concurrent to ME1 or 2.Finally, I think Kasumi Goto would make an excellent Noir. ;)Any other thoughts on this? Anyone want to take it on? I do hope so - I would love to read this story from the pen of a competent author!
