This.  I really wanted to step away from the Alliance after ME1, and it never made much sense to me that they were able to send Shepard around to hunt down geth when she should have been reporting to the Council instead.

That said, I'm still not 100% sold on the Council.  They second-guessed Shepard at every turn, which is their prerogative, I suppose, but it still felt like they didn't really respect the title.

You got a point there. From a gameplay and story point of wiev it seems practical to have one (or three as the case may be) important looking person providing Shepard with missions. After the Council and TIMmy it seem that role is filled by the Alliance. Maybe.

But the illusion of a Shepard running a independent operation was rather strained in the first two games, hopefully that can be written better in ME3.

I gotta imagine having the Shadow Broker helping you out means that you wouldn't have to rely on Cerberus, Alliance, or Council intel/resources.  My hope is that we have a choice in the matter, but something tells me we're gonna get railroaded into playing nicey-nice with the Alliance.

If I have the option, I'll definitely be telling the Alliance where they can stuff it, take my ship back, and hook up with Liara and fight the Reapers in my own way.

True that, I forgot about the new Shadow Broker. As for the spectres and the Council they never had any problem with the Shadow Broker so I see no conflict in working as a spectre and friend of SB.

Hell yes. My shepard is like Jack Bauer.

Always loyal despite setbacks with his government and always ready to serve humanity. The Alliance isn't perfect, certainly. But it is the best human government in the galaxy, maybe the only one which is able of raising humanity. The only government able of uniting the species.

Frankly, what makes the alliance to shepard is bad, but not enough to undermine a decade in the military.

Disappointed yes, but not betrayed. It will be quickly forgotten when the Alliance will enter into war and will rank behind my Shepard ! ;)

I am also loyal to the Council, but as said Udina : Spectre of course, but above all human.

This is what I want to do, but I'm so tired of working for the council... We need a new form of government. The old structure has failed us.

My Shepard is very anti Cerebus, he believes in a united galaxy. He would side with aliens over humans, if the aliens bettered more species. He will probably work with the Alliance though because I dont see there being any other options.

My Spacer-Renegade will always be loyal to the Alliance. She will want to keep her Spectre status, so she can kill anyone who annoys her. To save the galaxy and for the LuLz.

My Colonist-Sole Survivor, will feel betrayed. I hope he can go rogue in ME3.
The Council didn't survive ME1, so no Spectre status for him. He always felt like he owed the Alliance something after Mindoir, but that will change dramatically.

I really hope you have several options. If my Colonist Sole Survivor has to answer to the Alliance or the human Council, I will not be pleased!

Ah yes, Cerberus, we have dismissed that claim.

My Shepard is with the Alliance. The galaxy must be united, we must stand together as equals against the Reaper threat, and rebuild the Galactic Community to benefit all races.
Adrian Shepard, Paragon, Colonist, Sole-Survivor.

Besides, don't we all want to see the Turian Councilor's ship blow up, only to see him crawl from the wreckage and say: "Ah yes, death, we have dismissed that claim." And then he saves the day.

Pretty sure the mission to root out the last Geth resistance was a council mission done in order to move Shepard out of the spotlight.

As for the Alliance. No. My Shepard is not loyal to them. While he will do his best to defend everyone from the Reapers (execpt Batarians). His loyalty ultimativly lies with the survival of the four council species.

Let me see. My Shepards most loyal friends and allies are: the shadowbroker; the krogan warlord/king(?); the geth; the quarians(if they can be); EDI; and maybe the rachni. Add to that, a bunch of the most dangerous people in the galaxy. I'll pass on the alliance, even though my Shepards maintain a very good relationship with their Alliance mentors.

Besides, the alliance have crap looking uniforms, and don't get me started on the hair. ^_^

Huh...  you're right about the Council being the one to send Shepard out.  Still, doesn't make it right, and just gives me another reason to not particularly LIKE the Council...

RoninShep ftw!

She doesn't trust Cerberus... completely.... but she's pretty dislillusioned with the Alliance, save for Anderson and Ash now....she's on a love/hate with Udina....she doesn't trust Cerberus, but believes they can be tweaked.... her goal would to put Jacob in charge of it....

On the whole...she's....hesistant at best.....she'll have to wait and see what comes after the war where she'll go

My Shep is pretty sick of the brass in general. Both the Alliance and the Council have treated her like crap despite everything she has done for the galaxy. She receives no support from anyone but Cerberus and she can't trust them either ... besides which, there was no way she was giving the Illusive Man that collector base.

But, she is human and does want to see humanity thrive in the galaxy. She also wants to have a role in seeing that done, though politics are not for her. (she's too much of a "do it yourself" type) Considering her lover is the new Shadow Broker, and she has friends in other high places - Wrex, Tali, Miranda, Ash, Anderson - there are still options open to her, however. So, if she can wield that stick well enough, she might go back to being a Spectre - or take an officer position in the Alliance, but it will really depend on the circumstances. She might just as well take a position of authority in a new and improved Cerberus, if she can pull TIM back from his indoctrination. (in fact, if she could get a real position of authority in the organization - and considering she'd have the Shadow Broker on her side, she'd be in a good position to do just that - she might consider that before either the Alliance or Council)

What it would come down to is: Where could she make a difference while compromising herself the least?

Exactly.  The Council might be (begrudgingly) the best place to throw one's loyalty.  I have a problem with how little faith they seem to have in Shepard, but honestly, given the fact that they are the head of trillions of lives, the burden of proof is always going to be heavy.

My Shepard is still with the Alliance because failing to support humanity in the slightest will look weak. Going rogue will not help the cause to unite against the Reapers.

Too many Shepard's are given Spectre status and suddenly they forget why they were put in that position to begin with. It wasn't about serving the galaxy or serving yourself. You were put there to advance human interests.

Show some humility.

Oh I'm under no illusion as to why the Alliance wanted Shepard to be given Spectre status.  I just think the role deserves more respect than advancing the political interests of humanity, and the fact that the Alliance seems all-too-eager to disavow Shepard for doing something they don't like/don't understand gives me all the more reason to tell them where they can stick their interests.

Hell yeah! My Sheps Alliance. Cerberus sucks. Hated working for them in ME2. Going to enjoy killing their small army in ME3. Might enjoy it a little too much.

my shepard is a bloodthirsty vangaurd on the field (eclipse mercs should've avoided walking underneath suspended crates) but always reported back to the council and remains a spectre, she cleared up alot of geth for the alliance in the first game and put anderson in the council...

TIM didnt get the base in the end, my shepard is a bit of a socialist, shes only interest in uniting the people: reprogrammed the heritics, investigating how wrex is doing on his krogan plan, got tali cleared of all charges (making a good impression on the quarians), made her and legion kiss and make up, saved the destiny, best friend of the rachni, gets on well with turians (a little too well in some cases ;-) ) and so on...
she also only dates aliens lol
