I just had Dragon Age ultimate edition installed a few days ago on windows 7 and it worked fine.

Today, I tried to click on the 'play' button on the launcher but it wouldn't respond, while all the other buttons like configure, website etc worked. I tried multiple times with no success. so I tried to uninstall, then reinstall the game and reboot. Still nothing happened.

I then went to open the daorigins.exe file and it came up with an error:

"The application has failed to start because its side to side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail."

This was what I got from the event log:

Activation context generation failed for "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Dragon Age\\bin_ship\\daorigins.exe".Error in manifest or policy file "C:\\Windows\\WinSxS\\manifests\\x86_policy.8.0.microsoft.vc80.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.6195_none_517205a10f4550e3.manifest" on line 0. Invalid Xml syntax.

I have also tried installing C++ Visual 2005 latest version (vcredist_x86.exe) and it still doesn't work. Any ideas?

Does DAO want Visual C++ 2005, or 2007? Is there any way to find out?

2005 - but it's working now. I had to do a complete system recovery, and reinstall., as I believe some windows updates installed as I shut down were to blame. Everything works fine now.

Thanks anyway.
