Never had this problem before but I redownloaded Mass Effect 2 and tried to install it and I always get an error.

After I put in my CD-key and continue with the installation it installs for like a half second and then it says

"Installation failed! The installation of Mass Effect 2 has failed. A Data error has occured."

I thought that maybe my download was corrupted so I went back to D2D, redownloaded the game with their download manager and it did the same thing. I even downloaded it straight through the browser and it still doesn't work.

I've got everything allowed with my firewall and antivirus, and previously I've never had any problems installing Mass Effect 2...

You have a conflict between your download and your browser or whatever you used for the download. You're going to have to keep retrying, or give up on D2D and try the EA Store's digital copy instead (free with the registration number from D2D). Supposedly, of all the current browsers you could use, Opera has been working better with ME2's digital files than the others.

This is totally second hand information, gotten from reading answers that Bogs has offered here. I don't have or want digital downloaded games.

OK I'll try the EA manager.

Are you on any kind of wireless network?? Do you have a good network/connection at a decent speed?? Are you using Opera or Google Chrome?? Do you have ANY plugins in your browser?? Are you running ANY kind of dl accelerator?? Do you have plenty of room on your OS harddrive space?? Do you have a big enough swap file space for the OS system?? How fragmented is your HardDrive?? Have you turned off your AntiVirus for the DL?? Have you tried a Safemode with internet access boot to dl the file??

Not Wireless.

High-Speed Cable

No, Firefox.

No plugins.

I downloaded directly via Firefox, tried the D2D manager and I tried the EA manger. I downloaded the game 4 seperate times, twice through browser, once through D2D manger and once via EA manger.

Plenty of space, 300+ GB on main drive, plus 190GB of left over space on my data disk.

Haven't checked fragmentation, will now.

Yes turned off AV. Still didn't work, my AV has never interefered with installation before.

Haven't tried safemode dload and installation.

EDIT - HD was fragmented, defragging, and cleaning out temporary files then I'll try installation - will get back to ya.

For some reason, Firefox can be a culprit in causnig a corrupted download. As McSupersoprt mentioned, Opera or Chrome seem to be the most stable when it comes to downloading the game.
The fact that its been happening with both D2D and EA download managers as well leads me to believe that the cause is something on yoru machine/login.
I assume you have logged in with admin privaliges and/or disabled UAC? What OS are you running btw?
If Vista or Win7, it shouldnt require XP compatibility in order to install the game, but its worth trying as Windows often does things it shouldnt.

I downloaded it via Opera, and Firefox. Data Error occured. Downloaded it with the EA and D2D managers, still the same thing occured.

I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, I have disabled all my security and been running the installer as adminstratior and even in capabability mode.

I never had any problems with ME 2 installing in the past, don't know why it's causing so many problems now.

What other 3rd party apps do you have running in the background? Not sure how much of a difference it will make, but 3rd party apps have been shown to cause other problems with the game.
Comcast Constant Guard - Keymapping
Kapersky AV - Kills games running on the Unreal3 engine.
ASUS Smartdoctor & GamerOSD - Weapons locker crash

The only other thing I can possibly think of it is you have some bad sectors on your hard drive where the game is being downloaded to. You mentioned you have 2 drives, have yuo tried downloading to both, or just to one? If just to one, try saving it to the other drive and se what happens.

Nothing. Except my Antivirus/Firewall. I disabled that during installation, still didn't work. I finally got toinstall it via safemode and the game activated through the internet or whatever, but then I restarted and tried to launch it I get a different error saying that the configuration for the game isn't correct and that I need to reinstall.

I don't know what it is. Antivirus/Firewall, my video drivers, and realtek sound are the only things on my start up. Everything else is Microsoft or system based. I even disabled a bunch of **** in msconfig to try to get it to install and still nothing.

I don't know what's causing it but I'm just sick of fooling with it. I uninstalled ME2 and I'm just going to forget about it. I know I'm not buying anything digital anymore because this is ridiculous. I never had problems installing the game until now and my system is the same as it was the last time I installed.

The exact same, on the exception with like 2 extra games installed and I doubt that those games are interfering with the ME2 installation.

If it installed in safe mode then very high probability it is a program conflict, IE AV, firewall, or third party program.
