I've thought this to be a likely possibility since they first announced that Ash/Kaidan and Liara will be permanents in ME3. I wouldn't mind it at all. If you couldn't establish a relationship with them in ME1 for whatever reason, there is no reason you can't in ME3.

The way I see it, people have three chances to romance Ashley, Kaidan, and Liara. They have ME1 (which, really they should pick up anyway), the ME: Genesis comic, and what Casey Hudson said was an ME3 save generator if you start a new game. There are also 9 total LIs altogether to choose from.

The romance isn't the most important aspect of the game, sure, but characterization and relationship development are a huge part of Mass Effect. I am afraid if Ashley/Kaidan/Liara are made available in ME3, those who were faithful will get screwed, with only a few extra lines to indicate as such. Different relationship dynamics would need to be accounted for for it to work. If BioWare is capable of making a new romance and a faithful romance awesome and wonderful, then more power to them. But the ME2 romances were (in my opinion) not as well-developed, and assuming the ME3 romance paths have us do three short conversations and then sex before the climatic final battle, then no, I don't want that availability. I would rather BioWare focus on the romance path already at hand.

Honestly, at this point, the only new relationship I would be interested in seeing for ME3 would be for Joker.

I think the only availabe LIs available to start a romance in ME3 will be your "permanent" squadmates.  That being said, Casey said that there would be fewere squadmates this time around.  I'm thinking that some of the ME2 LIs will not be available for starting a romance in ME3 because they will no longer be permanent squadmates.

But we also have no idea how many squadmates were going to be getting or how they will work differently.

New LIs will be available in ME3 (the s/s ones), so we have at least one confirmed... and that is probably the male s/s (only because there was not a m/m romance previously).  I can only hope that it  will be as strong as a romance that has had two games to develop.

I don't want ME1, or some save creator to be the only way to romance Liara, Kaidan/Ash. I want to try and romance them in ME3, because that's where I want to start the romance, with an already created Shepard that didn't romance them in the past.

And I would prefer not to be gypped of a romance that potentially takes the easy way out when it comes to the faithfuls.

If BioWare spends the time accounting for a different relationship dynamic with those who romanced A/K/L in ME1/save generators versus ME3, then fine.  But those who romanced Kaidan and Ashley in ME1 and stayed faithful got a shouting match on Horizon and a flipping email we couldn't respond to.  Fun.

If they already have to make a version where you didn't romance them, and continue to not romance them; A version where you're loyal to them for all three games; A version where you have them and a ME2 LI fighting for your love; And a version where you leave them for a new ME3 LI; then I think either you're already screw by now, or you're not. Adding a chance to romance them in ME3, sounds like it can fit in the "didn't" romance version, and the "leaving ME2 character for ME3 character" version.

Well, I'm a pessimist/realist by nature, so the former is more likely.
