They found the WEAPON. That KILLED A REAPER. Probably couldn't learn a thing or two from studying it, no chance of that.

They could learn how to follow an obvious red herring that didn't save the civilization who built it from extinction. Does that really sound like a good idea to you? Do you think the Reapers will just form up in a neat little line so we can shoot them with our supergun?

Its as good a lead as any. Remember also that that civilization was also probably leaderless when the Reapers surprise attacked the citidel. With a reaper destroyig gun however with the reapers loosing the advatage of surprise and having to march system to sstem, a process that normally takes 100+ years will now take thousands, so yeah, that gun would be a great investment and reasoable mission. The mission would be you fighting Cerberus operatives wo have it under lock down for the reapers, and then you kil them all, bt a reaper comes your way upo learning that this reaper killer is uder attack, and the you get to try it out on said reaper, destroying it, and putting aother reaper kill under your belt.

Well that's great! We'll just secure the gun, tow it back to Earth and ask all the Reapers to please line up neatly in single file and advance in an orderly, predictable manner so we may pick them off one by one. You know what, I think they actually already made that game though. A looong time ago.

As far as TIM tells us, this thing was just a regular Mass Accelerator (albeit of incredible size). I think they got really lucky to catch one reaper of guard and hit it. And that's that. We already got that technology.
Besides, the weapon was several million years old so I guess there was not much left of it.

No one said destroying a Reaper wld be easy but ay edge on the Reapers is worth it. Also, if you read the codex, current space warfare is based upon making absolutely sure your target is lied u perfectly, or else the discharged weapon will go on for ever until it hits something, possibly resulting in a hiroshima like explosion on a population center in a few thousand years. And to the original point, there is going to be no reaper off switch, and even this powerful gun that destroyed a reaper has limited effectiveness, as you have pointed out, but the galaxy needs every weapon and resource on had if it is to have ay hope of destroying the reapers, whic may open the way ito the may quests related into investigating the "beings of light" or "Jupiter Brain."

Some alien forms mentioned in planet descriptions reminded me of Star Control II (it's a very old game (1993?) with a somewhat similar plot)
