unless we are going to do another rush job and dump an overblown DLC that takes place in 5 repeated locations for the entire 40 hours ... because I wouldnt put it past this pack of streamliners to try it again.
oh and I'm glad Gaider's writing a novel.... I'm glad time is being spent on novelizations of a game that had the quality of a drunken, improvised, bedtime story.
Lets concentrate a little less on DLC and Novels and a little more on putting out a quality product in DA3. I ain't readin the damn novel.

I think the only Orlesian accent I really enjoyed were Leliana's, Marjolaine's, and Riordan's.
There may have been a few others, but I know those three are the ones I really enjoyed.
They're the only three which didn't sound fake or overdone to my French ear.
The Maurice Chevalier accent of the Orlesians in Kirkwall was absolutely horrible. Plus, a bit offensive "Look! I have a French accent! I am eviiiil / stupid / vile / shallow". Worst stereotype since moustache-twirling. Really, I was often left wondering "What have we ever done to you, devs?"
That's why I would love Orlais for Val Royeaux, the Divine, the Seekers and the convoluted politics, but I'm a bit wary of "The Ugly Stereotype Strikes Back".
This said, if they do it in Orlais, I think they'll forget about The Accent. I just can't imagine a whole nation speaking like that (or they will all speak French, and none of you will understand a word *twirls moustache evilly*)

So you're this guy?

Anyway, I've never been to France before. I'd love to go though for the food.

But maybe DAIII doesn't need to take place in a single region in Thedas. Why can't it be in both Orlais and Tevinter? If the travel between them would take too long, then make it as a time jump.
Cassandra's not Orlesian, she's from Nevarra. And I don't imagine the next game will leap to different continents, no matter how much I want to see Tevinter (where I imagine the Tevinter are a lot like Morrowind's Telvanni).

to clarify.... I think Orlais would be a fine idea, but I think DA3 should travel to several of the areas we have heard of, including tevinter.
I also agree that the accents will have to be toned down... dont know how long i could take that.

Yeah, I just mentioned her because I think she has a nice, distinct accent. Where's that accent from in the real world?LobselVith8 wrote...

Also, why do you think the next game won't be in different continents? Story-wise or too costly to develop it?

You mean everyone's going to be speaking in that accent? Please no! I want to see Antiva but that's probably not likely.
I would like to think DA3 would take place in multiple regions, but that's just me.

), since I've never been to France I can't say what accents sound too "I'm all French!" and which ones sound actually French.
Leliana, Marjolaine and Riordan are good examples of "true" French accents when speaking English. They all have different degrees. Marjolaine has an heavier accent than Leliana, and Riordan's almost non-existent, but they all sound genuine. For the record, Isolde's isn't that bad either. The character is annoying, though
The Kirkwall Evil Orlesian Brotherhood's one is badly overdone. There are people who still speak like that, but those don't know English, they read some speech in English, generally (politicians - and everybody mock them here. We're cruel and elitist like that.). And there are those who have to learn English but consider it the Eleventh Plague and simply refuse to speak it correctly.
We also have several accents (when speaking French), like in every country I suppose, and that can leak into our English-speaking. But that would be being nitpicky to the extreme.

I do not mind DA3 being set in Orlais, it is purely the accent if used throughout the game that I'm against (I doubt they would do that); Leliana made Orlais sound quiet tantalizing in DA:O actually. Though it would be a much richer game if we weren't to play the entirity of it within the confines of one city.

DA has taken an unfortunet turn:( i mean tbh the story now is just bad there is no PULL OMG I WANA PLAY IT SO BAD! that DAO had, i miss DAO and tbh bioware should go back to the roots of what made DAO so great:)
Well, the story was badly written, but I think the plot concept was sound, and quite interesting. Great idea, terrible implementation.
I really don't miss Origins. I enjoyed it, but after sufficient playthroughs, anything will become tedious and boring. I'm even playing through it again now, in order to establish a new canon story for my Warden, but still.
I do think that Bioware shouldn't have thrown out the things about Origins that worked, but nevertheless, it wasn't the story of DA2 that was bad, at least insofar as its basic plot.

While I'd enjoy it thoroughly if they started having people speak in their native tongue in the game and just used subtitles, I kind of doubt this will happen. I'm also thinking that the game won't likely be set *in* Orlais proper, assuming it heads that direction at all.

You know what? I think you're spot on. She does sound like Nelson Monford. And now, everytime we meet her in game, I'll have him in mind and wait for her to comment on the Warden's perfect sword swing or something.Morlanwen wrote...

I kind of doubt it too. As cool as it would be, I imagine the tsunami of complaints.PsychoBlonde wrote...

I wouldn't mind having Antivans speaking Antivan between them from time to time, though, or Rivainis, or Tevinters. With or without subs. So far, we have the "Foreigners speaking between them in accented English" thing. It could add to both immersion and plot if we and the PC don't understand what NPCs are saying. Used sparingly, of course. Even better with imaginary languages such as Arcanum.
'twould be a pity if it's about Orlais but we don't get to see Orlais. On the same note, I'd love to see Tevinter, Seheron or Antiva. Especially Antiva. We've been hearing about those places for two games now, time to visit them properly, methinks.I'm also thinking that the game won't likely be set *in* Orlais proper, assuming it heads that direction at all.
