If they all have that accent and act the wy they do in the other games... I may end up making a murdering bastard of a char..... .

not out of hate but out of being driven insane....

Yeah Cassandra's and Leliana's voices are hot. But some of the other voiced characters for Orlais sound like really snobby/horse frenchmen.

Cassandra's from Nevarra, she's not Orlesian.  And that's not a French accent.

But what accent is it? It seems nobody can answer that for sure...

Slavic.

You're not the first to come to this conclusion. I, like many others, all see Bodahn and Sandal as the C3PO and R2-D2 of the Dragon Age series. We believe Orlais is next, or somewhere close to Orlais at least.

Plus there are other hints that Orlais seems to be the next setting, like the Nexus Golem.

I only ask that Bioware make a city feel truly big and alive. If we're going to go to Val Royeaux, I want it to feel as alive as the various characters describe it as, Leliana being the one that first comes to mind.

I am with you 100%.

I also felt that there were many hints throughout the entire game that places the next part of the Dragon Age saga in Orlais. The least of which being that we read and hear so much about Orlais from outside sources and have met so many Orlesians, we have to go there eventually!

The only thing I am wary of (and I totally don't mean this in a bad way) are the numerous NPCs with French accents we're likely to run into if we do go to Orlais in the next game.

Bodahn and Sandal as C3PO and R2D2 is just awesome! XD Relating to Sandal, you all need to make sure you click on him numerous times when you visit your mansion in Acts 2 and 3 to get all his his weird little hints and mysterious sayings.

Btw, a "no spoiler" forum probably wasn't the best place to start this topic >.>

In DAO and DA2 Orlesians had accents because they weren't speaking their native tongue.

In Orlais they would, so no accents.

Makes sense?

I might agree with you if there weren't movies where people are speaking foreign languages where the actors have the accent of speaking English in that language. Hunt for Red October is a fantastic example of this. Near the beginning there is a transition from speaking Russian with subtitles into English. That's all fine and dandy and the transition is done well. However, the actors have Russian accents. It doesn't make sense I know, since they're not speaking with accents to each other, but I think it's a tool to remind the audience where we are.

Also, it would depend on who the main character is and how the story is developed. If the PC is from Ferelden or the Free Marshes, s/he would be speaking 'English' (or whatever the main DA language should be called). Therefore Orlesian NPCs would be heard with accents to the PC. It all depends on whose perspective the story is told from.

I think Orlais will not play a big part in DA3 I think the Champion and Warden meeting up in the deeproads beneath Orlais will be the main game. Think about what the Nexis Golem said. Only the shaperate can bring the light. I think we will have to go to ozamar or kal sharok to travel to the dark city beneath Orlais.I believe they will have a ton of dlc's in DA3 due to Orlais being the size of TES4 oblivion. there only going to show us pieces of Orlais not the whole city. Programing a game that size would take years and bioware wants money now.

As long as DA3 is set all over orlais (if that is the seting) and not just a city then I'm happy

DA:O had closure, there was nothing to pull me back, because I knew it was done and over with. DA2 however ends with no closure, so I want to know what happens.

All those crappy french accents would make the game damn near impossible for me to playthrough.

Most of the accents drove me crazy in the game. Don't know how "accurate" they are, but having them toned down would be better. VO's in other language could be dealt with in the same way.... foreigners have a *slight* accent. Having DA3 in Orlais or Antiva would be pretty neat, but if everyone speaks like Leiliana, I'll go nuts. Her accent rubbed me in the wrong way, and that's someone who's used to hearing English with a French accent.... albeit Canadian French. The VA for Leiliana does speak French so it can't be "wrong" if she is emulating the language. I think it's mainly what we are normally exposed to. For example, why don't we blink an eye when Hawke or any Fereldan speaks in British accents? We are are just so customed to that, especially for fantasy settings. Anything different is jarring. Although.... maybe it's supposed to be jarring because one is Fereldan. A Fereldan stuck in Orlais would feel weird. Making them all speak Fereldan would be wrong. Yes, I am now contradicting myself. Eh... I guess we just need a fine balance. Better acting would negate most voice issues, however.

I really hope Hawke is NOT the main protagonist in DA3. I have no love for him/her. I'd rather see the Warden return before Hawke does. The story can be related to Hawke (like the search for him.... maybe Varric comes along to find him??? :-D ), but not of him.

@Sutekh I agree For Leliana and Riordan true accent ... but Marjolaine? She sounds like a ... like a ... not like a french accent at all. Hummm, maybe because the VA IS NOT french ^_^ (she is a sort of inverted Nelson Montford :P)

You know what? I think you're spot on. She does sound like Nelson Monford. And now, everytime we meet her in game, I'll have him in mind and wait for her to comment on the Warden's perfect sword swing or something.

While I'd enjoy it thoroughly if they started having people speak in their native tongue in the game and just used subtitles, I kind of doubt this will happen.

I kind of doubt it too. As cool as it would be, I imagine the tsunami of complaints.

I wouldn't mind having Antivans speaking Antivan between them from time to time, though, or Rivainis, or Tevinters. With or without subs. So far, we have the "Foreigners speaking between them in accented English" thing. It could add to both immersion and plot if we and the PC don't understand what NPCs are saying. Used sparingly, of course. Even better with imaginary languages such as Arcanum.

I'm also thinking that the game won't likely be set *in* Orlais proper, assuming it heads that direction at all.

'twould be a pity if it's about Orlais but we don't get to see Orlais. On the same note, I'd love to see Tevinter, Seheron or Antiva. Especially Antiva. We've been hearing about those places for two games now, time to visit them properly, methinks.

i love some of these ideas about other languages being spoken amongst people of that dialect.  it would be even cooler if you could devote time or stats in the game to learnign other languages so you could eavesdrop on conversations and get them in subtitles thus opening new quests.  or when speaking to enemies they would collude amongst each other in a language you know so you see it in subtitles while giving the choice to either reveal you heard what they said, or keep secret your bilingual awesomeness. :)  lol.

I'd rather DA3 take place in Tevinter. Its the only standing civilization with free mages and built on magic. I want something different and unique

Dwarfs have blasting powder and Qunari (I believe) cannons. Time for muskets and early stages of industrialization, time for Steampunk!

Well they didn't exactly try and hide that something will be going down in Orlais. It could be an expansion, or the sequel, or both.

Hmm, for once I'll go with the crowd and say, there's a strong chance. Sandal and Bodahn are headed there (and I've heard people call them the R2-D2 and C-3PO of Dragon Age). The new DA novel: set in Orlais. Where is the drama?: Orlais.

Although I'd love to see Nevarra, and/or Seheron. Tevinter too, just because I'm so painfully curious what a mage-ruled society looks like. Can we go there some time?

God, I hope not. Can you imagine playing in the same tacky Orlesian mansion over and over and over again?

Also, after Kirkwall, this DA2 team would not be able to do Val Royeaux justice.

The Warden and the Champion are done, they've had their games, now let a new character (?) come into our lives.

I do think that DA3 would be in Orlais.  I want to see where Leliana lived (maybe she'd be a party member again?).  I also agree with what people said before, it wouldn't be Dragon Age without Bohdan and Sandal, who would do your enchanting?

I have an idea for a story in DA3, but I think I'll keep that to myself.

Mercy killing.  That wouldn't bother me.  After DA2, I don' t really care what happens in the story.  Sounds like they're committed to the changes to combat and ninja mages; so I doubt there will be a change for the better. Meh.

Leliana's accent was great, I had a squee moment every time she giggled, but Mrs. de Launcet in DA2... -shudder-

So... much... hyperbolical... french... oh Maker, I need a strait jacket.

I'd love to see Orlais, but I couldn't take 50+ hours of that insanely overdone accent.

I wouldn't mind seeing DA3 based in Orlais. We've heard so much about it, and those who once lived there all describe the place with great detail, and make it seem interesting. Also, while it would be nice to see Tevinter and etc., those don't have to be explored in DA3. They need some locations left to explore down the road.

I also would like to hear npc banter (gossip?) in non-english. Why wouldn't two people of the same background speak their native tongue when conversing with each other? Not every npc needs to say something that is relevant to my pc, or in a language that they understand. The world is a big place, full of different people and places to explore.
