Didnt you hear? Batarians are really filled with fuzzy love for Hoomans. We've only just witnessed a very tiny faction of the baddies who are intent on poisoning us, ramming asteroids into our colonies or attacking them head on for slaves, annexing asari worlds and bombarding salarian colonies. Most of them really are stand up folks and borderline hippies.

That's right. Normal batarian citizens are nothing like batarian slavers and pirates, anymore than normal human citizens are nothing like human pirates and slavers.

Oh ok. I'm sure normal batarian citizens are the polar opposite of how their government acts as well then yes?

This has been dismissed. Your assumptions on what Batarian society and normal Batarians are like is baseless and entirely counter to practically ever example we've ever seen in the ME universe.

I would like a batarian squaddy. Besides the fact that Shepard killed 300,000 batarians, they also killed the family of a few of my Shepards.

It would make for some very tense and intriguing dialog. Good drama. And I'd like him to be a jerk about it too.

PS. Rachni or elcor squadmate is too epic to seriously consider as a reality.

According to the Ministry of Unification, South Korea, about 14000 defected from North Korea to South Korea between 1953 and 2005.

It's not implausible for a Batarian to defect from the Hegemony. Especially if he/she has spent some time away from Hegemony space and has seen the propaganda for what it is.

Also, how many Batarians fled Hegemony space when the Reapers attacked? At least one of them would probably be willing to help Shepard defeat the Reapers.

The key difference between your example and what matter at hand, is North Koreans and South Koreans arent two entirely different species. That fact alone will cause any schism to widen exponentially as there will always be a sense of 'us vs them' on both sides. In Korea, there is a genuine desire for unification among both North and South, there is no such desire on either the Hegemony or Alliance evident. There also hasnt been any military clashes of much significance between the ROK and PRK in some time, where as the Alliance and Hegemony have had numerous proxy engagements very recently. Again, this will harden hearts and continue to polarize an already polarized population.

But I'll bite...14,000 over a period of 52 years, for a grand total of 270 per year...In a country of millions. If anything, you are proving how effective an oppressive government can be at controlling their own population.

So, if your example where applied to Batarians in ME we would be looking at a very, VERY small sliver of the Batarian population that actually recognized the manipulation of their own government. That doesnt mean they all of the sudden do not see Humanity as a threat...If they where to view Shepard's actions in Arrival alone, even without the lens that the Hegemony wants them to - they would still see a Human murdering 100k+ Batarians.

I havent even addressed it from the Human perspective in this post and already the possibility of a Batarian teaming up with Shep seems virtually almost none.

Yahg for the amazing prowess and versatility, Prothean for the lolz, Raloi because they're the newest spacefaring race to hit the citadel.

I'd rather stick with the numerous squaddies we've already got, but if we get a new one I would prefer a yahg. Shepard can sit on its shoulders and snipe while the yahg beats everything to death with its bare hands. And a batarian, who can be mean and snarky and follow Shepard and the yahg around, spouting one-liners every time they make a kill.

I can argue with you about the subject to the end of time, but it would be pointless and stupid.  You clearly view batarians as you view them, as two dimensional bad guys. All i can say that they are more than that and that's it.

How I personally feel about them is irrelevant and not the subject that was being discussed. The established facts concerning the Batarians, Humans and the believability for a Batarian SM was.. But you are just another person who prefers to make up your own background for the race and then attribute it to them - as if it where written that way in stone in the ME universe.

It's cool. None of you can defend a Batarian SM for ME3 because its an indefensible position, I get that, I watched you fail miserably at providing remotely accurate comparisons with RL before I systematically tore your examples apart and you retreated.

No. Sorry to tell you this, but the fiction you have kicking around in your head doesnt equal what has been established within the ME lore, and thats that.

Blasto is the first hanar spectre and delivers better one-liners than even Shepard himself.  Jacob even watches Blasto in his workout videos.  How could you not like Blasto?

If we do get a Batarian, I at least want to slap him around a bit. And at worst, blow him out the airlock if I don't want him. Options, people. Posted Image

Please no Batarians -- they're all the same exact looking race. There is no difference between them. And I just don't like them...

just focus on the characters we already had in ME1 and 2.

Batarian fugitive/traitor party member would be great, and a good combatant. I happen to find Batarians interesting.

Yahg, Vrocha, Rachni even though I have no idea what they look like, Volus and hanar because they would be hilarious. the Volus always complaining and scared and the hanar being silent (they communicate through colours) though I don't though how a hanar would fight, maybe awesome tentecle attack or something. they are supposed to teach drells to be assassins so they must be able to do something. Maybe a Batarian if they aren't all out to kill you. who are these Raloi? maybe the even a collector will join the crew. Legion did in ME 2.

It would be far more interesting if we got a batarian who supports slavery and the hegemony IMO.
