 Excuse the title.

My questions to you all are: How do you feel about the mainstream, action movie style of the new ME3 marketing? Do you miss the serenity and scifi themes that the game is about in the marketing? Do you prefer this because it will appeal to those who aren't as familiar with scifi and RPGs? Do you think the music and fast pace in the trailer fits the games?

I would say that I really miss the traditional foghorn sound that the previous games used when they finished off the trailers with the logo. I think marketing it as a bit more scifi and less as the rock and roll music action title would be nice, but the trailers are capturing the intensity and pace that the game will likely have.

What do you think of the guitar rifts instead of spacey synth?

If you're thinking Call of gears: modern halo effect.
Then yes, the music in the action sequences fits the action sequences, hence the -action-

No way would i want the rest of it to be like that.

Marketing is for the general public not rpg/ME fans. Wait for the trailers that will be made for fans.

I didn't like the guitar riffs, but I don't like "spacey synths" either. The orchestral score of ME2 (and it's trailers) was awesome. I would like to have seen more of that in the ME3 marketing, but I guess the new music guy is still busy composing at this stage.

Seems like a petty topic looking at it now lol. But are you into the change in marketing?

But the trailers and commercials are part of marketing. We generally get a classy ME universe trailer, but the new ME3 trailers take a new turn and the game trailer itself takes a rock out high action approach instead of the previous deep space epic rpg feel. Trailers help make fans, both old trailers and new trailers.

We've seen one Trailer with the high energy rock Music....I dont think its a big deal.

Besides most trailers are going to be something thats catchy and high paced anyway. So it doesn't bother me, I've been playing ME since 07, I know what its about and it doesnt bother or worry me in the least to have a high energy E3 trailer.

Not really, no. But I gather the early ME2 trailers were similar (heavy action + guitar riffs) so I'm not too worried.

I'm really just looking forward to another CG trailer like the "Big Ben" Teaser trailer from last year. I tend to like those trailers most of all even if there is no gameplay footage.

Disturbingly enough, that seems to be a trend with EA marketing in general. The DAO ad campaign was hilariously bad and it was about the same with DAII. Dead Space also had an incredibly tasteless campaign with the whole "Your mom will hate it" slogan.

I predict the ME3 adverts to be about as bad. Actions sequences chained together with some bad rock playing in the back.

It was the same with ME2's announce/E3 marketing period. Just wait.

I generally agree with this

That specifically, I don't mind. A well chosen song can do an amazing job. (Recently been playing Red Dead Redemption, and that used out-of-place music in game to good effect) Which ME3 trailer has guitar riffs though? I can't remeber seeing one that has.

Honestly, I try to pay as little attention to marketing as possible. I haven't seen any ME3 material yet that raised eyebrows (unlike DA:O), but I haven't seen it all.

I know marketing have an important job, but they must trade their souls for the job, or maybe they simply metled their good-taste chip*.

*Cookie if anyone gets the reference.

Don't forget the "Sin to Win" contest - that was classy. :P

I may be using the term wrong, but the guitar can be heard intensely in the trailer that greets you on the official site. Just click play and get ready to head bang to... Mass Effect...

Not petty. You like what you like. I think the 4 million people that buy the game are great but they are trying to get more of the market share. They got us now they have to get the other guy. It was a trailer for that guy that doesn't know he likes RPGs.

The first ME2 trailer was also like that, eventually we got an amazing launch trailer.

Personally, I wouldn't compromise the franchise image and fundamentals for the sake of broad appeal and greater commercial success. I know EA strives for that, but I prefer striving to make the great vision and attracting as many people as you can who would appreciate what it really is.

Dropping the sleek rpg appearance to grab a bite of the bigger shooter market wouldn't work for my tastes if I had any say in a project like this. Maybe that purer aspiration isn't on EA/BioWare radar, but it did slightly lower the franchise value when I saw the mentality of getting more shooter and action fans and trailers and then saw that it made its way a little too deep into the game.

Brilliant series of course, but spread beyond itself for the sake of sales in my eyes.

The Fall of Earth trailer? Just watched that, and that was.. interesting.. The music was generic and dull - even in that genre there's much better choices out there. Definately a strange choice for ME, I think.

Then again, I'm not the target audience, and generally hates most things marketing throws out, so my opinion of it is hardly suprising.

The purpose of the ACTION EXPLOSION trailers is probably to draw in new fans to ME, since people these days seem to love explosions. What would the purpose of making the majority of the marketing campaign cater to current fans, who are most likely going to buy the game anyway?

Well, I like it. Though I would definitely be more pleased with something more dramatic like the ME2 launch trailer. I guess they're keeping those for later.

Far be it for an At Profit company to make a game that appeals to Millions of fans eh? :)

Still dont get how one trailer compromises franchise image or fundamentals as the game has always been a Hybrid RPG/TPS but *shrugs* Maybe i dont read into Marketing that much anymore, seeing as how I was a business Major and most of that stuff blows by me without me even really caring.

Fact of the matter is, any company in business, with employees, will try to deliver the product that will appeal to the most people in its market.  Fortunately for Bioware, the ME franchise is a veritable gold mine, so I doubt they'll muck it up for the 3rd entry.  Not after all the accolades they garnered for the second one.

But I do beg the question.... whats wrong with better shooter/action elements in a game thats primarly revolved around...combat?

Also we're still dang near 3/4ths of a year away from the Game Launch and msot of the trailers are E3 trailers which almost always are Glitz....ever been to E3? Lots of lights and shiny objects! Gotta catch people somehow
