So. When thinking abuout my favorite parts of the ME games, I decided upon the fact that what really makes the ME games so special are the conversations. I feel so engaged when picking what my shep is going to say next and to whom. Maybe Im the only one who feels this way, but I think that I actually prefer the important and dynamic conversations over the action/shooting parts (which became pretty generic in ME2). Anyway I have noticed that Bioware seems to only be focusing on the action and shooting parts of me3 and less on the wcharacter interaction parts. I know that shooting makes for a more exciting trailer than talking, but I still think that Bioware schould focus their attention on the characters and the dynamic conversations. IDk maybey a trailer with shep giving some sort of epic speech or something. I just feel as if Bioware is marketing ME3 as another generic shooter with some minor RPG elements and not focusing on what makes the ME games great which are the chracter interactions, epic story, and dynamic universe imo.

Oh look, this thread again, making the same assumptions based on a gameplay demo. What part of "gameplay demo" did you not understand?
9 months until release, with much of the VA work still to be done, and that includes lip synching the face models in with the VA. They wont release such footage until they get it pretty much sorted. If they did, game critics and other whiney people will jump on the poorly dubbed footage and then use it as "proof" that Bioware is no longer commited to the game/genre.

The shooting makes for a much broader mass-market appeal. But don't worry, Bioware is looking to improve squadmate interactions in ME3.

Personally, I would like to see squadmates interacting with each other on the ship, not just when you take them on missions. It would make things seem more dynamic if you saw them interacting with other characters without Shepard initiating everything. Maybe also let them move around the ship sometimes, not always be stuck in that one location.

I would also love to see more opportunities to 'hang out,' like going to a bar or something. Could also lead to some nice expansion to romance subplots.

Conversations are game play. Just not the shoot em up part of the game. And Im sure if they wanted to they could get a short snippet of VA and face syncing done for a trailer/demo. I really didn't even know they didn't have any done yet. No need to get snippy.

E3 is mostly about flashy trailers and a lot of action. We've been promised more squad interaction and emotion from Shepard, so it seems clear that they're focusing on improving these areas and making sure we get even better conversations and depth with our companions.

Remember, there's still eight months to go. Plenty more will be revealed; as hard as it is, we have to stay patient.

I think we've already seen some of that with the E3 demos. The most obvious would be the squad banter as we can hear Shepard and Co. go back and forth multiple times in each demo.

Though on the emotional front, we've seen major boons to the facial animations. Just look at the scene with the Kid. Before talking to him, Shepard shows some very subtle, and in my opinion powerful, emotions.

This thread has appeared at least a dozen times since E3. The same "this is just a dumb shooter" assumptions have been made time and again, all based on 10 minutes of footage, by people who have no idea of how games are actually developed. While I do share your concerns that the game may become "just another braindead shooter", I do actually have the understanding of what is entailed in game development, and thus dont make grandoise assumptions such as yours based on very little information as what has been provided thus far.
A quick search through the first few pages of this forum would have shown you how many times this has been brought up, and you could have joined in one of the existing discussion, instead of starting yet another one.

You know nothing of the purpose of E3 and other conventions.

everyone should really stop feeding the trolls, but concidering this guy/girl actually said sentances that people could read i'm thinking just ignorent. everyone else is right it was just a gameplay demo and the action might have been the only bits they could show right now that were working and if you didn't notice they still but some talking into the demo as well, personally i don't expect much to change in that area or to be reveiled and i don't want to could spoil to much story and i want to see if i could go up to that krogen female in the demo and instead of saying i'm here to help if i could say 'Grunt!! what are you doing in there" :)

Yeah, wait for the demo to come out, then complain. Like DA2.

You mean, wait for the demo to come out, complain, buy the game anyway, and complain even more?

I played the demo and decided it was enough for me.

They showed as little spoilers as they could, and that's fine by me, the rest I can find out when playing the game myself.
They showed off game mechanics, graphics, and scale of the game. That's the purpose of the convention.

I'd like the conversations to incorporate a timer. Like, NPC asks you a question, timers starts counting down from 10.

That's actually a really good idea...but I doubt it's going to actually happen.  Some people's comprehension levels require reading sub-titles and would be considerably disadvantaged.

Not a good idea. The converstion input pause is very handy for when you need to take a leak, talk to friends, family, answer the phone etc.

I think it would honestly add a level of depth to the game because, if it were possible, then NPC's could comment on myrad of things observed from such conversations.  It could even have some consequences (like the renegade interrupts).

Obsidian did it with Alpha Protocol and it didn't really add anything to the game and most people complained about it

You would just be rushed though, you would make stupid remarks because you didnt have time to think about what you wanted shep to say anmd the whole conversation you would just be on edge because you knew you had got 10 seconds to choose a reply.  Its a game, not real life

See, you must've interpreted my comment as "make things easier".

Of course you would be rushed. (it wouldn't have to be 10 seconds).

That's the whole freakin point. You're right, it IS a game and it should present challenges whenever possible. I'm not comparing it to real life. I, in no way shape or form, fly around the galaxy as a spectre, but I do believe it would add a level of depth to gameplay.
