Several months ago, I installed NWN2 Gold including the expansions seemingly without incident on my new ASUS laptop, and logged approximately 10-12 hours with no problems.
Yesterday I attempted to uninstall and re-install the games to start fresh, but after installing all three games and updating to the latest version via the NWNUpdater, I am experiencing constant crashes almost immediately upon starting the game. Not only that, but the game is not just simply crashing back to my desktop; my laptop is shutting down completely without warning. The first time this occured I received a blue fatal error screen and restored my system to an earlier date from a few days before this. I have not had any more fatal error messages, however the game continues to crash, without fail, forcefully shutting down my computer.
I have tried just about all manner of running NWN2 in compatibility mode (with both XP SP2 and SP3) as well as as an administrator. I have also tried disabling certain graphical compatibility options (desktop composition, etc), and the same problem persists.
I am going to try a fully clean uninstall, complete with a registry cleanup and defragging, before I attempt to fully install and update once more, but I'm not optimistic.
Any ideas?

Update: Clean uninstall/re-install didn't work. Cleaned the registry and defragmented, no dice.
I downloaded and installed the specific DirectX 9.0c driver the game states it uses, no change. I also attempted to update my GPU's drivers to the latest version I could find on AMD/ATI's support website, but that actually caused even further crashes, fatal errors, freezes and graphical glitches (such as vertical gray lines and a hard system freeze).
I am this close to fflarfnoogining it all, backing up my files and activating the recovery partition on my laptop to get it back to factory presets. Talk me off the ledge here.
All I wanted was to mod the crap out of my copy of NWN2.

i'm no hardware guru but it sounds like overheating, Rob.
try peeling the back off your laptop and giving it (your vidcard esp.) a dust-off, maybe purchase one of those newfangled cooling pads (do laptop vidcards have cooling fans? if so, make sure it works)
as you probably know the graphics engine for NwN2 is a beast ..
