I think this is going to take some beating, but if anyone is up to the task it's Mansell.

The 3-4 note core of that theme is very simplistic and I think that's its charm, it's instantly
recognisable and effective, so yes if Mansell can incorporate the key motif into his
instrumentation at certain points throughout it could be truly epic.

My only concern with Mansell using this theme is whether or not he can develop it further without it sounding over the top. This theme was in ME1 in a relatively mellow form, and Wall amped it up for a bombastic ME2 finale. If Mansell tries to over-amp it even further then it could backfire on him. I hope that if he does use it, he steers it in a different direction, rather than just turning it up to 11.

I'd rather stick with the old theme for the climax of the Mass Effect trilogy.

The Mass Effect theme will certainly remain. You can be 110% sure of it.

I hope you're right. In fact, there are a few pieces that I hope to see continue into ME3. I really don't want a completely reappropriated soundtrack. Not in the last chapter of the trilogy.

I'd like it to stay, but if Mansell reworks it, I want it to aim for my emotions. I want it to make me feel as sad as Exodus in America from Red Dead Redemption makes me fell knowing what will come. When the piano hits in that song it is clear what emotion it is after and it is sad and final.

"Suicide Mission" is generic trash. Mansell would do well to steer clear of it, and judging by his ability to really plug into the thematic and emotional tones of each scene he's scoring, he will.

I too, thought that Suicide Mission is rather generic. It just sounds like intense action/fiction. Now it absolutely has its moments and worked where it was used, but it moves my emotions near-nowhere and I won't be playing it on my iPod much longer after the end.

@marshalleck

That song sounded generic to me until I listened to about 0:50 into it. Then it got pretty unique and whimsical. Not bad.

I hope Uncharted Worlds stays for the galaxy map, It's probably my favourite peice of the series.

Maybe a remixed version could be used.

I find its calmness comforting. It sounds strategic and spacey. If it is remixed, I hope it maintains its tones.

I just wanted to point out some striking similarities in the compositions of two separate works that came out just about the same time.

I must say I think "generic trash" is excessively harsh. That music is well- and widely-liked. Do you have peculiar musical taste, or is this mere snobbery?

I'm really curious if Clint Mansell will do anything with Sovereign's theme or the Alliance victory theme. I would really love to hear some variation on each of these themes again.

I hope it stays too along with the Illusive Man theme.

2 options for end scene music:

1) Bring back the ending music for Mass Effect 1

2) Music with epicness like hans zimmer.

^ Similar to that one (: I think it can fit the ending for ME3.

And McDonald's sells a lot of hamburgers...that doesn't mean their food is good, just cheap and accessible.

ME2 had some great songs. Suicide Mission is not one of them.

I found SM a fitting action theme, but as ending theme didn´t even get close to MK pt 2.

The Mass Effect soundtrack is absolutely brilliant. I've bought a handful of game soundrack CDs in my time; this is one of only 2 I ever go back and listen to. (The other is Seiken Densetsu 3, if you care.) I loved that so many themes were brought back in Mass Effect 2 and I can't wait to hear the soundtrack to Mass Effect 3. The main theme must come back. There is no question about it.

I thought Mass Effect had one of the most epic themes until I heard Hans Zimmer TIME for Inception. It was truely epic. Hopefully Clint can compose a theme that resembles the epicness of TIME by Hans Zimmer.

So, just to name a few I liked, which I thought had interesting dynamics or were exceptionally effective in establishing mood for their respective scenes (and just in the order I'm able to recall them, not in order of preference):

The Attack
Miranda
Freedom's Progress
Samara (First use of human vocals/chanting in Mass Effect, not including the pop song in ME1 credits?)
Horizon
Mordin (Especially this one! I love the callbacks to 50s scifi theremins and little men in grey suits--salarians are very similar to the traditional "grey" alien concept, and it amuses me that it's incorporated into his theme. Clever!)
Jack (specifically the absolutely crushing electro-grind at 3:40, fits her so well)
Legion
The Collector Base (eerie ambience perfected)

Zimmer can be great. He is pretty good about varying his melodies. It is only some of his projects that come off generic and overdone to me.
