Garrus and Tali seems to be the most popular among the Mass Effect characters. They have been squad members in both ME games and are confirmed for ME3. Thanks in large part to their fan base. While they have huge fan bases(which sometimes can be annoying) they have their share of hates. Resently there have been many threads talking against them. Some people accuse them of "stealing spot light from other major characters." Well these are somr of the reasons I think these two are popular.

• Both stayed with shepard for longer than any other character.
• They are both aliens which some people find interesting.
• Both of them are well developed characters(like most other squad mates)
• Can be romanced by shepard in ME2.

Other than these facts, Garrus is a sniper which is pretty damn useful and I also think Tali's combat dron is one of the most useful powers if you know how to use it. Tali got that mask adding some mistery to her character and people usually like mistery. Garrus got his scar and people seems to have a soft spot for guys with scars(dunno why). So if you have any ideas why they are popular or hated you are welcome to share them.
