1. Original and cool designs that realy looks alien.
That's a wait and see on the quarian end. They could end up looking very human, and thus not alien at all.

Not by a long shot. I have shepard's who aren't friend swith them and barely even talked to them in both games, and even if Shepard is friends with them, they still have Liara, Wrex, Kaidan/Ashley, Joker, Dr. chakwas and all of the normandy's crew. It's not like it's shepard, Garrus, and Tali vs the world.lovgreno wrote...

I never actually found Kaiden to be whiny and quite liked him
As for Tali, I used to be a fan, but not anymore due to the Geth issue primarily....though she a Legion kick a** as a team against anything mech.

Well, I think they're popular for several reasons. Not being human, they're not subject to 'face bias'. With a human character, you see their face, and you either like their face or you don't, depending on the type of human faces you like. With an alien, you have a design created by an artist to have enough similarity to a human face to be interesting, but enough difference to be exotic/unique, which is a common aspect of attraction. And with Tali, you don't even get to see her face, so there is the mystique of what's under that mask, which is very appealing to many males especially. As a woman, I know that revealing too much skin is probably the worst thing a woman can do if she's trying to be appealing, less IS more in this respect.
And then there is voice acting and post-processing. A modulated voice is going to sound a lot more "cool" than an ordinary human voice. And an alien character has a whole species to explore, all sorts of new things to discover, whereas a human has a pretty familiar background regardless of how they grew up. Take Jack, for example. Even though she probably has the most extreme background of any of the human characters, we pretty much know everything about the overall human society she is a part of. With Garrus, it's not just Garrus, he's our entreé into the Turian Heirarchy as a whole. With Tali, it's about the Migrant Fleet and the geth. It's just like humans in our modern-day world who are more attracted to "foreigners" than persons who live in their own country/region.

Truth be told I did like them more before I began reading these forums. Their popularity gets a little annoying on occasions. Such as when Bioware comes out with Mass Effect merchandise featuring characters and just about every single time it is either Garrus or Tali.
Great characters though, I'll just never understand their popularity.

Team Dextro is just like Justin Bieber; the main, primary reason for their popularity is that they're all mascots for shameless fanservice. In Garrus' case, not so much. But Tali and JBeebs...don't even get me started on how much fanservice is in their DNA.

Thing is, Tali was wanted. Unlike that abomination of a midget who nearly stole my damned hairstyle.
Edit: Oh, and Tali & Garrus make you puke from sheer awesome & charm. Bieber Boy makes you puke from sheer disgust of his effeminate, meaningless dribble, and the shame that the creature came from your home country.

Damn I really don't like Bieber. But I know he got lots of fans and it must be the same with any character. Fans have their reason and so do haters.MsSihaKatieKrios wrote...

I'm all poker face when it comes to Garrus.
P.S. I really don't mind Garrus. Remember his krogan balls convo in numero uno? I could never get over the sheer hilarity of that. In 2...he's still fine. Just wish he'd STOP CALIBRATING AND ACTUALLY MAKE MEANINGFUL CONVERSATION.

I hate to pull this but dismissing Tali and Garrus as nothing but fan service?

Really?

Wow, look at that - I can be unfair as well.
