sorry if this has been asked a million times but I haven't been keeping track of this forum topic.  is there any verdict on whether or not an official toolset is going to be released for DA2.

is it possible to use the old toolset to create levels for DA2?  i have a good story idea in my head i'd like to attempt to mod and it would be a shame if Bioware didn't give their fans access to a toolset to ensure the longevity of their product.

thanks.

Agreed, it would be very very nice to get some kind of help toolset wise in using DA2 resources.

Scripts, especially. I really wish they'd release their source and a list of the new functions, even if they don't want to wholly update the toolset :-/

I think they need to look at what happened to Supreme Commander 2 (yes I know it is an RTS but) alot of people hated the maps and didn't let us have a map edioter, and there is no offical support, and so it pretty much died to alot of people. Alot of games are given new life over player content. I mean look at Coutner strike, I left the game for a long time but went back because of mods.

So offical player support keeps there games alive for much longer. (plus you can steal what the players do to the game under your ELUA and use it for your official stuff, if you don't give support you lose out on the potential coders and stuff.

... not to mention that Counter Strike, in itself, is based on a mod for HL.
But yes, it's undeniable that an editor, or a more accessible engine, significantly prolongs a game's lifespan. How many people are still playing Oblivion and modding the hell out of it? How many mods are there for the Unreal series? They saw it themselves with DAO...
But who knows? Even though it seems like an eternity for some, DA2 is barely 3 months old. It took other games way longer to come up with a good SKD/Editor.

Most games I recall that have a toolset of sorts either released at the same time as the game, or announced plans to release a toolset at a certain point in time.

All we got for DA2 are "maybe"s, "who knows"s and "we'll see"s. That's not exactly encouraging.

However, we do know they pay attention to forum feedback. Respectful, repeated requests for an updated tool set can only reinforce how much the fans want one - and therefore help to keep the topic in their decision making process.

Only they know whether or not the time and resources spent on making their toolset available is cost effective in terms of the bigger picture - but the more we politely remind them that many of their customers view having access to one is highly important, the more likely the balance will shift in our favor.

However, if every time this topic comes up and only a few people respond, then it is very possible that the impression Bioware will recieve is that it is not "all that important" and devote limited resources to other projects.

So I agree, we do not need to "whine" but we do need to remind them that many of their fans highly value this.

DLC is on the way people. Just have to wait ( and pay ) for new quests in DA II. Same way they did it for Mass Effect 2. Really, nobody should be surprised by this.

I do hope we get a toolset, it would extend the life of the game. The limited modding going on at the moment certainly has!

I really hope there is a toolset soon so we can tweak CCC values at least.

Assault break brittle instead of disorientation
Tempest combo with stagger
Twin fangs comb with brittle
Bursting arrow break stagger instead of brittle
etc

We looked here, we looked there

We looked for that toolset everywhere

We searched tops of hills

We waded through lots of rills

But the toolset's still property of Bioware

LOL Stalker of Mice.

About the toolset: I too want a toolset and to be honest I'm not interested in playing DA2 or purchasing any dlc for it until a toolset update comes out. I want my characters to be more creatively my own before I spend time playing through the game again. :)
