Will Mass Effect III have that scanning each planet for minerals going on?

It was amazingly boring and really slowed down the pace of the whole game.
Just wondering if it is changed or just made some upgrades?

It will return, but in a different way. They've heard the feedback on it.

It wasn't so bad after the patch.

i wish planet scanning was in ME1 so bioware would have removed it. but nope anything from ME2 HAS to be in ME3, even if its hated by ALL.

I believe I watched something that said you would scan for missions but not for resources. I'm not sure if resources would live on through some other gathering method (like picking them up with a vehicle) but you won't be scanning for them.

That's like saying that cleaning the toilet isn't as bad with modern cleaning liquids and a proper brush, compared to when you were in the army and had to clean it with just water and an old toothbrush.

A crap, boring, non-game is still a crap, boring non-game, even if it takes 50% as long.

If it even surved a game-balance purpose, I could see a reason, but it doesn't. You can get all the minerals you'll ever need for the whole game before you pick up Mordin (literally this is true - you could get 2x the minerals you'll ever need, if not 3x). The game-balance bit is instead controlled by when you're allowed to research stuff (after scanning corpses and terminals in story missions, mostly).

They could literally have taken the scanning out of the game entirely, and it would not have changed the way you progress, except that your "time played" would be 2-4 hours shorter at the end of the game, because that's the time you spent scanning.

EDIT - If they kept resources and research in, they could just give them to you in missions. They kinda do this in ME2, but the values relative to the costs are a joke. I.e. a mission you might find 3000 of a material, but an upgrade costs 25000. Instead they could make it so that you found 30000 of a material on a mission, or that the upgrade only cost 2500, or whatever.

I think the system in Mass Effect 2 was better than the one in the original Mass Effect, runnign around in the mako across the planet just to attempt to scan a resource deposit was horrible.

What you said is not exactly true, now is it?

I hope so; I enjoyed doing every single planet to 100% on every play through, lol. Seriously.

Yeah, my only problem was before the patch, and even with the upgrade, it took forever to scan a planet. It was an improvement over riding the MAKO in the first game.

They said it would be changed in ME3. Maybe changed into something more along the lines of DA2?

Planet scanning is still their but they are making it more fun and intresting (however they are going to do that)

I haven't played DA2 yet.  What did they do in that game?

Scanning was insanely boring and grindy. It felt like a poorly implemented MMO time sink......which has absolutely no place in a single player game.

Sigh, They should just reward us for doing a couple of accomplishments during a mission or a special side quest and depending on how you did them you'd get minerals or whatever you'd need for ME III.
The game is a mix of shooter and rpg the whole mineral scanning feels such a waste of time while they could add more lines or stuff like that instead of something like... scanning.

It would be nice if you could just click on a planet and place a mining robot thing and get a steady flow of minerals over time or per mission.

It was annoying as hell that scanning for resources took up at least half the game time. I like researching upgrades, but I hate having to constantly re-stock my platinum just because I wanted to get rid of those glowing scars.

Edit: No joke, it was probably 60% of playing time, spent on scanning planets.

I hope not. I would rather they allow us to have boots on the grounds in the mako searching for minerals and with those worlds we can't go to because of environmental reasons we can probe them.

They are changing it.

The next mass effect will still have planet scanning but you won't scan for resources, just anomalies (i.e. missions).

Tired of Mining-Induced Carpal-Tunnel? Try Mass Effect 3! Now with Quick Time Events!

Ahh, the horror.

do you mean ME3 is still gonig to feature spinning a differnt colored ball and poking it with the A button in order to upgrade and purchase certain what-nots?

how can you improve planet scanning? really. how?

in terms of exploration why not just take ME1s UNCs, make more random bunkers, make the hammerhead more durable, and thats about it. instead we get a mini-game i guess you call it. you never felt awesome being dropped in the mako on some totally trippy red planet??? id just remove all the planets like nodocrux.

its sucks that scanning planets is the only way im gonna upgrade
anything. its a time sink i dont care for. or atleast give me the option
to hire someone to do it for me. its a good thing im not a big fan of
ME2, o play it on difficulties id need upgrades, or id be alot less
satisfied with planet scanning. in the 5 playthroughs i did, i planet
scanned for only the first half of game 1.
whatever, ill prolly just get too good at ME3 and not need to upgrade anyways.B)
