The only dumb thing is when people pretend she's somehow the "right" LI to pick up because she cannot die in the first two games.

Yeah, people have definitely noticed she's the only ME squaddie that Bioware kept safe from death. She'll definitely have a major role in ME3.
She can have a major role. That's totally fine and it makes sense. She can be the one who unravels a HUGE REAPER SECRET that allows Shepard to SAVE THE GALAXY which would have been OTHERWISE IMPOSSIBLE without Liara, but she should seriously be allowed to die in ME3. Like, it should be possible for her to die, in some way. It's freaking galactic war, and no one should be safe, not even Liara and her thick, thick plot armour.
I also hope that she doesn't force the "melding" on Shepard this time around. Hey, if you're in a romance with her or if your Shepard is close friends with Liara and you want her swimming around in your brain all the time, that's awesome and more power to you. But the way it came across fo nonconsenting Shepards in ME1 was disturbing. My Shepard said "NO" several times and in very clear language, but it happened anyway! It... almost came across as a violation. Seriously awkward.
Aaaand I hope that hugging Liara is optional again, like in LotSB. It was so awkward when my Renegade Shepard who spent most of ME1 yelling at Liara just reached on out and gave Liara an unbidden hug on Illium. LotSB did that right, though, and made it optional to hug Liara or not. Like Tali during her loyalty quest! Not all of us are in love with Liara and Tali (which is probably hard for Bioware to imagine, but it's true!) so... OPTIONAL AFFECTION, PLEASE. Thanks!

Ugh, exactly this. Liara may be an important character as an individual, but that doesn't make her the "right" love-interest. Or the "canon" love-interest. I hate it when people pretend otherwise.

I seem to be one of the only people to positively hate her. I was glad for her to be SB because I don't have to see her again. I didn't romance anyone in ME1 because all of the LIs were so bland. I don't look forward to her return.

"Hating" any character ever is pretty much an act of war on these forums.... <_<
I'm not a huge fan of Liara, either, but I try to avoid strong words like "hate." I also stay out of her fan-thread (except for one time when I had a legitimate, Liara-centeric question) because I don't want to rain on anyone's parade. I realize that this isn't a Liara fan-thread, so not-entirely-positive comments about Liara should be acceptable, but be aware that strong words like "hate" often evoke strong reactions from fans.

Really?
Kaidan, Ashley, Wrex, Garrus, Tali, Miranda, Jacob, Jack, Zaeed, Kasumi, Thane, Mordin, Samara, Morinth, Grunt, Legion and the entire crew of the SR2 can be killed, but Liara cannot. Her plot-armour is extremely unique.
Even Shepard can be killed, and Liara would just live on to fight another day!
Joker and Chakwas are the only other characters who enjoy the same luxury as Liara. And as amusing as it would be to see Liara, Chakwas and Joker team up into a three-man killing team, I don't think that any of them should be safe in ME3.

I want people to choose her as a LI because they want to choose her, not because Liara looks adorable:

Oh, I thought that Chakwas made it back to the Normandy even if everyone else died. My mistake!
So, correction: JOKER AND LIARA, BEST BUDS AND "BONDMATES" IN ME3. THE HARBINGER CANNOT HOPE TO DEFEAT THEIR COMBINED PLOT-ARMOUR!

Well, someone HAD to survive 'till ME3 to give a bit of continuity sense to the whole story. If it was Wrex or Kaidan the safe-from-dead instead of Liara we'll be here collectiong the same whines about him.
It'd make more sense for 'Ol Wrex. It seemed ridiculous to me that he could be 1-shotted by a poet or that he'd be so slow as to let Shepard wind up and smash him with his gun, after hundreds of years of fighting, and then be shot a few times on the ground (Shepard's a puss).
Of course, only found that out via Youtube, Wrex is the Wrexyest squadmate around

Basically this. When people throw around strong words like "hate" it will inevitably anger somebody and the thread is then doomed to spiral all the way to a lock. Even things such as "not like" carry that risk. For example, you came to a thread discussing the curiousity in how Liara is incapable of death and replied that you hated the character and wished she never returned. That served the dual-purpose of angering Liara fans and not contributing anything to the conversation.KawaiiKatie wrote...

I am personally a bit surprised at Liara's tendency to show up in more Mass Effect media than any character aside from Anderson, and even then thats not counting the DLC. I like to think that Liara is set up as the "anti-Reaper" for ME3 due to her Prothean knowledge and Shadow Broker intelligence. I hope that she and the VS play such an extremely critical role in the game that the fact that it is possible to have all of your ME1 squadmates dead except those two in actually justified

Joker can technically be killed. A Praetorian can jump him; Liara's the only one that can't die in a cutscene!
And good point, whoever noted that even Shepard can die (ME2 ending with everyone dead or with only that jerk Thane to catch ya

Actually, Zaeed does get a fair bit of hate, usually for being such a cruel bastard on his loyalty mission (Not that I don't like him, his endless stories & Jessie fetish are funny as hell).
This isn't a Liara hate thread; I just said how I liked her character in ME1. I wouldn't kill her if I could, unless it came to a choice between squadmates (which would suck). I'm going to go look at the new "Tali Face Speculation" thread, you should look at it, too; It'd make you feel better. It's probably trollier than the Golden Gate Bridge already

Yes, really. All her unkillability really comes down to is that she wasn't a party member in ME2 like Garrus and Tali were. Which is a pretty strange claim to favouritism, really.

Oh gosh, it was terrible! We have Ash ("a soldier") and Kaidan ("a good kid") and Liara ("AS BEAUTIFUL AS SHE IS INTELLIGENT") and.... that was it. Gee, Bioware, I wonder who your favourite character is?
I have seen people claim that Liara is the "superior" love-interest
due to the amount of romanctic content she has (which outright dwarfs
any other love-interest) and... that's just not a fair assumption.
Jack's romance is my absolute favourite in terms of emotional weight,
but she wasn't in ME1, so she's an "inferior" love-interest? I think not!

This isn't a Liara hate thread
+1. This isn't a Liara-hate thread. If one negative comment defined an entire thread as a "Hate Thread," there would be nothing left of the BSN.

Hm, let's count:Wulfram wrote...
She was one of half the crew not to be killable in ME1, and she wasn't a party member in ME2. I'm not seeing her non-killability as anything particularly special, really.
-she should be recruited in ME1 (Garrus and Wrex, for example, don't)
-she - and rather disturbing mind-melting which are too similar to "asari sex" for my taste - is the only character who causes plot progression.
-she has own comic
-it was Liara who gave Shepard's body to Cerberus... and didn't care to tell anyone about that
-unevitable (if you want to recruit Thane and Samara) hug on Illium
-the only char who has DLC
-situation when Shepard protects Liara from the Yahg throwing piece of table, leaving 2nd character knocked off. Oh, that character may be LI.
-one of the most powerful beings in the galaxy, thanks to the same DLC. Why Shepard can't make another character the new SB?
-Hackett gave her dogtags. If I were Hannah Shepard, I'd be offended
-her description in Genesis, especially compared with Kaidan and Ashley's
-the only unkillable squadmate
I agree, one or two items of this list is perfectly understandable and not a big deal, but entire list make me think Reapers will be stopped with some visions from Shepard's brain involved, and Liara will have regular mind melting with him and in the end will explain the secret of the Reapers to everyone;)
