The situation with Garrus, Tali, and Wrex isn't really the same as the forced friendship with Liara.

You can be an outright dick to Garrus or Wrex, kill one in the first game and never see him again, and never recruit Garrus. Cutting out most of his friendship dialog in 2. Including locking out his romance in that save.

Tali, like Liara, will always act like you were nice to her in one. But again, you can be an utter ass to her and destroy any semblance of friendship you have with her.

Liara takes it to an absurd degree. I can hardly be rude to her at all in LotSB, and the game treats her like she is my Shepard's lost love. Which is hilarious, considering I recruited her last and she was probably insane at that point. Which would probably explain her absurd stalking behavior.

This is a very fair point.

*ME3*
Shepard: Alright it's time to save the galaxy!!!!
Liara: Love you!:wub::wub:
Shepard:....uhm good for you.
Liara: I said love you!
Shepard:......okaaaaaaaay. *backs away slowly*

This stalking nonsense is one of the dumbest things I've read on these boards.

- Liara received an annomonys tip that Shepard had been found -> Liara travels to Omega to meet Feron (she didn't even know that Shepard is dead - Feron told her)
Nowhere is it implied that she has searched for Shepard before.

Why travel halfway across the galaxy on the basis of one tip then? Did the tip originate with TIM? TIM only tells you what you need/want to hear... TIM knew that stalker Liara was the most expedient (and if things went to hell, most expendible) person to contact.

- Liara argues with Miranda in Redemption -> quote: "I really think you should let the dead rest. This isn't what I brought Shepard back for."

And what, pray tell, did she bring Shepard back for? She could simply have kept the body where she keeps the current Shepard Shrine and the collectors/Reapers would have been none the wiser.

- and in ME2...
Shepard: Come with me Liara
Liara: The universe doesn't work that way Shepard. I can't drop everything for you. I have debts that need repaying...

I will however keep your dogtags along with the rest of my Shepard collection in the mean time. Once my debts are paid (LotSB/ME3), I'll lllllloooove you like before...

How exactly is this stalking?

How is it not?

I think one too many mind melds with Shepard's too strong mind, or too much time in the stasis sphere on Therum drove her a little insane.

TIM wanted someone with a personal motive, and "it's difficult for me to contend with the Shadow broker out in the Terminus Systems"
TIM knows he has only one chance to get Shepard -> before the collectors buy the body.
- Ashley/Kaidan are alliance drones -> they wouldn't cooperate with cerberus
- Tali is a quarian (quarians detest cerberus) -> cooperation unlikely
- Wrex is busy on Tuchanka
- Garrus disappeared after Shepard died
- Liara was available, and she has a motivation (Shepard saved her life -> she wants to repay a debt)

Liara was the logical choice. That has nothing to do with stalking.

And TIM would accept that, right?

What?

Keeping the dogtags or Shepards armor is hero worship, but not stalking.
Edit: She repays her debt in LOTSB -> the universe still doesn't work that way.
Shepard: Normandy
Liara: Shadow Broker ship

That's because she can stalk Shepard even more efficiently as the Shadow Broker. Instead of breaking into the captain's cabin to collect toenail clippings, she can pay someone to do it for her. Brilliant!

I am laughing so hard at some of the responses here
I'll do something I almost never do and back up a little - we're all fans of the same game.
So you tell me then, why do you hate Liara? Don't do LotSB don't ever talk to her or about her. Done.

She saves Shepard's life and gives him a second chance to make a difference, and instead of being at least neutral as thanks, you **** around all day in threads like this.

To the OP, you're not really debating, debating means stating SOLID points and ACCEPTING another's view. And this thread is an insult to the word "debate" and it's meaning.

Spewing nonsense that comes out of your common hive mind, when provided with sources proving you the opposite, you just keep on going like an old hag too proud to admit anything. When you DO have something other than your brain as proof and points, I might take you seriously. Until then, fat chance.

Tell you what, I'll be the first to admit yes she does have some plot armor. She isn't forced as a romance or friend on anyone. You thinking she is leads me to believe you've never had a girl or a guy stuck on you in your life, which is....umm..moving on..

Also, stop being part of this ****hole society around the globe that makes premature judgements before really having anything to go on. And yes, you do NOT having anything solid to back up most of your points.

EDIT : I wasn't calling you OP a troll. The troll was for someone else who as predicted, isnt posting here anymore.

"As thanks?" It's a video game.  I'm not going to be grateful to a fictional character; that's just silly.  I'm going to judge them based on how I like their personality and their role in the plot.  I judge Liara's personality to be unbelievably boring and her role silly, and just try and stop me!  Mwahahaha...ha

No need. This thread is so full of paranoia (among other things it's full of) it can burst.

Again, saying that these minor "forced" interactions happens to other characters does not excuse Liara.

Yes, you're forced to recruit Garrus. But that's it! After that, your inattention to Garrus or your animosity towards him can get him killed. His friendship isn't a centeral plot point like Liara's that pushes the story forward and nor is it completely unavoidable.

And even if I did rescue her on Therum, that doesn't explain why she decided to keep my armour of display and it absolutely does not excuse her choice ot keep my dogtags, after Hackett explictitly told her to return them to me.

You didn't even know Garrus was Garrus in ME2, however, so it's not like you went out to recruit Garrus. Nor did friendship have anything to do with why you recruited him: Shepard doesn't say 'no' to picking up any of the allies in the game centered around picking up a team, but it certainly doesn't imply any view of Shepard's. Garrus may have an unfaltering positive view of Shepard, but that's Garrus's view: Shepard never has to share the bromance.

Could you make a list of all the situations that force you to befriend Liara; things that can only be interpreted as due to friendship and not prtacticality.

As I recall you can make mean comments and you don't have to hit every paragon interrupt.

There's no way they will provide solid proof of something that is totally born from their own mind.

I don't recall ever hating Liara, huh. I'd have to be invested in her character and her role in the story for that.

Also why are some people so invested in other people liking Liara? That's getting kinda weird, honestly. Do the Talimancers do this too?

I really don't care if you like her. I find Jacob and Garrus boring, but I don't bash them constantly.

Does Liara have plot armor? Yep sure does.  Is she more or less the "canon" romance? Yep she sure is.

Anyone who doesn't like it I only have one thing to say to you.... Nah nah nah nah nah....

The bolded part is really the only issue I've seen people actually get angry about.

Do I have a problem with Liara having Dreadnaught level plot armor? Not really.
Will I occasionally make jokes about it? Yes.

Me too.  I never played LotSB though, but the vanilla ME2 Liara was terribly written.  And the whole SB plot became rather ridiculous in ME2 anyway.

I still say Tali would have worked better for the comic. Liara just doesn't work as an action girl. I can't really take her seriously.

Though Garrus would have been the best option. They should have just used him and then in the comic been vague about whether or not he was actually on Shepard's team.

TIM could instead say he approached him because of his successful investigation on the Citadel tracking Saren.

I actually liked Tali less in ME2.  She went from young, but confident just setting out into the larger universe in ME1 to school girl with a crush in ME2.  Really turned me off her character.
