Why do people want to kill Liara so much?
ANSWER ME!
the reasons go in the following order:
1. liara's armour plating, constructed out of the rare material known as "plotarmourium", mined in an unknown Thessian quarry.
2. forced friendship (why did liara have to bring me back? why not ash? why not kaidan? why do I have to hug her on Ilium even if my shep hates aliens?)
3. "forced" plot relevance (why is she the shadow broker now? whether that's forced, well I thought the information broker thing was contrived but her becoming the SB made much more sense from then on)
4. ninjamance in ME1 (I hate you liara! ohhhh shep, we're near ilos, we may never come back, need to mindf*ck you one more time)
5. bitterness she is in the first game and can't be killed, got an amazing DLC in ME2, and will be a full squaddie in ME3, whereas [favourite character] won't be
6. simply just don't like her personality
there's probably some more I forgot, but I think I covered the main bases
Liara's lack of death

ME1 Udina: Go find Benezia's daughter.
My Shepard: Okay.
ME1 Udina: Her name is Liara...Dr. Liara T'Soni.
My Shepard: Doctor? I'm in love already.
*I'm being 100% serious...this was my exact reaction my first ME1 pt*

So, I just noticed something. I'm not sure if others have noticed this first or not, but Liara is the only squad member who can't die for real. Garrus and Tali can both die on the suicide mission, along with everyone else in ME2, Ashley or Kaidan can die on Virmire, and Wrex can be killed by Ashley on Virmire as well. Liara is the only member who cannot die in the Mass Effect series so far. What do you think this means for ME3?
she's bioware's golden girl lol

I also have to admit that I never felt railroaded into romancing her, so I don’t have the same resentment as some other people do, so I view her in a story objective fashion. Some characters have to live because the story needs them, and I feel that’s the case with Liara.
...That doesn't stop me from finding her friendship creepy, mind you. My Shepard would have loved to ask about that piece of armour that's displayed in her home in Lair of the Shadow Broker. Still, I never really viewed that as forced friendship either. I viewed it as Liara being a somewhat stalker as just part of her character. >>;
Uh... sorry, slightly more of a ramble than I meant it to be.

I need to invent a drinking game wherein I take a shot every time I hear the word "stalker" in a Liara thread.Dirgegun wrote...
I haven’t read the entire thread just yet, but as a writer I just wanted to say my point of view if you all don’t mind. Mass Effect is a trilogy, and, when writing a trilogy, one would normally have certain plot points planned or sketched out from the very beginning. It’s possible that Liara was always planned to become the Shadow Broker, and so, couldn’t be killed before she accomplished that plan for her. I’m expecting she may be killable in ME3 though, seeing it’s the last instalment.

But anyhoo, I agree with you in that I never felt railroaded into romancing her, either. I don't really mind that she had plot armor.

Example, Hackett apparently found your tags, despite you being the only one searching the Normandy wreckage, and only just recently discovering the ship (why it took 2 years, I don't know). And apparently your helmet, and two pieces of your armor, were separated enough to be taken by 3 different people: Legion, Liara, and Shepard. And the dead body the Shadow Broker took didn't go with them. Like was Shepard's corpse stripped or something? And now, apparently your dog tags were separated as well, and taken by Hackett. So that's 5 things that should have remained together, that were taken by 5 different people.

Legion found the frontal piece.
The blue suns found the body.
Liara found the back part of the later.
Hackett/Liara found the tag seperate from the body.
Shepard found his helmet.
Shouldn't all the pieces be stuck tn the corpse.
How the fu*k is the helmet seperately found from the head. When shepard was wearing as he fell. The body was in proper position.

Every faction had a piece, well... a pile of Shepard.

They were fighting to get those ^ and have a complete collection.

Dunno. I won't kill Liara if there's an option to do so. I'm not sure if I'm going to save her if I had to sacrifice an entire world for her or Ashley (but I'm going to sacrifice Ashley for an entire world).
Out of the mentioned points, only points 2 and 3 apply for me. They are no death sentence for Liara to me. They're there, I accepted them and since I can't change anything, I won't mourn about those two points anymore.
Liara is BW's fave character (even more than Shepard) - now, every moviemaker / gamemaker / writer has a favorite character that gets more perks than others.
I'd say deal with it. I learned to do so.
Still don't have to romance Liara

Disturbing. Like Shepard's corpse was stripped and sold piecemeal at a garage sale. Now I'm picturing Legion and Liara in a bidding war over Shepard's N7 coffee mug.TMA LIVE wrote...

its not her per say its how Bioware pushes her in your face as the obvious hot alien love 'canon' love interest for Shepard. They present her with "Please guys love her see we made her for you."
Wheres lets take to older past generation games with a main character that can for a romantic relationship in the games ... Persona 3 and 4... never once did I feel that Yukari or Yukiko where pushed in my face as the LI that were some what Canon. I just happened to kinda fall into the romances as the game progressed.
Liara - I ran for the hills so damn that i would give Usin Boult(sp) a challenge for fastest man alive.

The main arguments for her being "shoved in your face" are:
1. Her plot armor.
2. Genesis.
3. Forced friendship with her, no matter what.
4. Genesis.
5. She gets a big amazing DLC where she is promoted to Most Powerful Woman In The Galaxy.
6. She has received more main plot attention than most other characters.
7. Genesis.
Her plot armor has proven evident so far, but it might not be intentional. I could conceive of the idea that Liara's death immunity in ME1 was just happenstance. You cannot kill Tali, or fail to recruit her, either. It's true that Tali is killable in ME2, while Liara isn't -- but the VS and Wrex are also unkillable in ME2, so I'm not sure we can call that a Liara exclusive thing.
The forced friendship is annoying to many, but it is, again, not Liara exclusive. You can be a dick to Tali and it doesn't affect her behavior toward you in ME2. You play the buddy act with Garrus pretty much no matter what.
Liara definitely did get a huge amazing spotlight shined on her in LotSB, but the awesomeness of that DLC transcends mere petty thoughts of character favoritism.
She does, in ME1, have more plot relevance than any other character. However, I don't see how this is objectionable. The writers have the right to present a prominent character who is more intertwined with the story than others. Bastila, Morrigan, Carth, Alistair.
Genesis was a joke. BioWare was trolling you like you've never been trolled before. Apply a UV light to the Genesis title page and you will see a giant troll face grinning at you from beneath the surface layer. The end.

You sir are correct but here comes magnifecent bastard troll on bioware part. See they made her the complete opposite of what one would think of as a over sexed up love interest. Playing the Naive, shettlered smart scientist card who knows very little about social interaction. In comes Shepard dashing marine who she happens to realy on instead for understanding of humans. Instead of maybe you know her talking Joker, any of the other crew members. No its Shephard(you the player) who goes in save this lovely creature cause only Shepard can.
Now how does this work any differently than say Tali... well because Tali has the issue of the suit its not that Qurians do want interact the people its more of an issue is that she can't the way she wants(too YMMV on this mine sure does) So you fall in to the trap of.."Oh she is not an over sexed up love interested thats forced on me." Then you hit everthing you just mentioned and "BAM" Bioware got you and they have the biggest Troll face ever. Because insteaded of playing on the desire a hot sulty waton love interest they played on the almost genetic need for us as men to feel needed.
Clever, its very clever.
Now lets take Yukiko who for the most is almost the same type of character - but here comes the difference...She finds the strength to over the her cage -( The fact that she is daughter of the owner of famous in at town.) A releases instead of waiting for some prince to come save her - she has to break her own cage. Which is what whole second dungenon of the game is about and how she gains her persona by resolving this conflect.

If some took offense - it was not my intention
but guys be honest - really ther's a part of you still loves saving the princess and being her hero, having her depend on you. I know part of me still does...nothing wrong it.
