I guess it just means Liara has some important role to play that requires her to have done what she did and not be dead... I have no real problem with that as I like her character...
Besides every series has a few persons that cover this role (unkillable and with important plot advancing role), Liara is only unique in that she handles all the "responsability" of this role herself (she singlehandedly has this position in both ME1 and ME2 thus far)...
The reason she is canonically required to survive till ME3 will probably come out on its own in the game...
If this doesn't happen then we may talk about this again, but for now I guess there's no need to be angry about it...
I see where the guys that say she has been shown a bit of favoritism are coming from, while I myself don't completely agree on this...
However, I agree that the fact she does outshine pretty much everyone in both survivability and plot relevance is quite obvious...

Liara is the only member who cannot die in the Mass Effect series so far. What do you think this means for ME3?
Well, Joker can't die either (ok, he's not a squad member, but he's a crew member). Maybe this means Liara and Joker end together
Joker CAN "die"... When you control him in ME2 it's possible to fail in completing your task and getting caught by the Collectors with the rest of the crew... Since however his death prevents the game from being completed (it causes a "Critical Mission Failure" screen) this isn't canon if you want to continue te game to ME3...
Here's two ways for Joker to "die":
