Why can't I bring myself to do a second playthrough?

Virtually every RPG I play, I start my second playthrough immediately after finishing the game the first time. Usually on a higher difficulty, picking different paths, etc. But for Dragon Age 2, I just don't have that drive.

I want to play through it again. It definitely isn't a game that deserves the flak it has gotten. I loved it. And to top it off, I'm a BioWare achievement hunter - ME, ME2 and DA:O are all maxed out.

There's just something missing... something that isn't motivating me.

Has anyone else experienced this?

To me, it´s that I find combat tedious: even when I´m winning easily, there comes yet another wave to kill, and that unlike the first playthrough, this time I know where the story is going, and I¨m don´t like it much.

As a guy who actually doesn't replay games very often (ME-verse being the exception) I have to say picking new decisions, changing your tone, romancing a different LI and changing the difficulty really made a second play through totally fun. If you can't get into it now just take a break!

I'm getting this too but I'm on my 5th and 6th playthroughs...
I didn't have to force myself to start a second playthrough right after the first one.

Your problem might be that you've made a character you don't like ?

I had to force myself to finish the first one.

Like a previous guy said, gameplay for me was the real downer. Gameplay is even more important to me than story is, so while DA2's story was pretty flawed, it doesn't help that the gameplay (imo) was even worse.

Edit: For comparison, I played through DA:O start to finish at least 3 times, with several more partial playthroughs.

Repeated environments?
Lack of conversation with your companions?
Not feeling connected with Hawke?

There are many reasons why some people cannot bring themselves to do another playthrough of DA2. I just summed some reasons up that holds true for a large part of the playerbase. Or a small part. I honestly don't have a clue.

I tried very hard, but I could not finish the second play through. I even took some time away and tried to come back to it, still couldn't do it.  It just was not fun.  The reused areas, the dead city, and the enemy waves every fight.

I played Origins through four times. Twice with the exact same path and storyline. I liked it that much.

I'm not remotely interested in playing DA2 again. It's not that I didn't like it, it's just that I didn't like it enough to do it again.

MAYBE if I play through Origins again with a totally different character/mood, I would consider extending that story into DA2. But that is a huge maybe.

Well with all the re-used maps, copy and paste quests ("oh no the mages and or templars are doing generic bad things again" or "hey lets go to that same map and kill those spiders/bandits/etc...") that take like 10 minutes max to do it feels like you've had many playthroughs already since you've done the same things over and over and over again. :D

Plus your choices don't have any effect so it's not like you'll discover anything new in a second playthrough except different romances or combat skills for a diff class.

Yes, kinda. I did enjoy DA2, thought I wouldn't say I loved it. Still, I couldn't bring myself to replay it right away, and I haven't touched the game since April 30th.

I attribute this to the game's many annoyances. The enemy waves, the shoddy camera, the deja vu-inducing map reuse, the Postman Hawke quests, the choices that don't matter, and a whole assortment of other more minor complaints.

Still, I'm currently playing through DAO at the moment, so I'll have a save to import soon. Bioware are also supposedly going to come up with a DLC to fix a lot of the game's ills. They might be decent incentives to play DA2 again.

Check.  Check.  And check.  I would add: combat waves make the game unplayable for my tastes.  One playthrough was enough for me, which is a shame b/c as much flak as I give the game, there were some other things I wanted to experience, but not badly enough to put up with all that nonsense.

this.

I'm on my second playthrough and I forcing myself to the end (I'm almost there!). I'm even skiping some cutscenes! something that I rarely do on an RPG. I hate the whinny anders and can't stand to see how artificial hawke is:  Either he is a true angel or an ignorant and unsensible person. As soon as I finish it I will sell it.

I've done three playthroughs thus far and will probably do a fourth in the next couple of weeks (this time with some super sweet Diversified Follower Armor mods!).

I did find myself going through the last playthrough a bit slower than the initial two, but I think that stemmed from not looking forward to some of the battles, and feeling a bit twitchy about some of the more emotional plot lines (yes, I found some of them moving). Also, I set out on the third pass to do a few specific things, so my focus was on handling those. I don't think I had the best combination of intentions for well-rounded play

But again, I'm taking another stab at it, and looking forward to it.

I'm waiting for Legacy, because I always start over when I get new DLC or expansions anyway.

I don't know, it may be a lack of world altering choices and the tighter talent system making it so it doesn't take many playthroughs before you feel like you've experienced all the game has to offer. (aside from exploring different personalities)

If you can´t find a reason to start another playthrought, then you have your answer there. Sadly the replayability of this game is very small, i only did two full playthroughts (and trying each one to be as different as possible) which ended in disappointment as i realised how linear the game was.

Since then i have shelved the game, i think the only reason i may play DA2 again is if i require a savegame to import into DA3 (assuming it means something), as i would like at least my choices in origins to be acknowledged as well as what happened with my warden.

Knowing the ending and your choices mean diddly? The only reason to play it again is to try a different class (I played mage 2nd time and enjoyed it more than my 1st despite the implausibility of the storyline and loopholes with that class)? Or to try a different personality (my changes in that area didnt' change much that I could see, but others say it can make big difference). Or to try a new romance ( I did that too 2nd playthrough...Fenris...ahhhh).

Take a break and come back?

I do want to do a second playthrough...sometime. I have several other things quite a bit higher on my priority list first gaming-wise, though.

I'm on my third play through. May be my last one until DLC comes down. Had no problem doing 2 but now I got a new game from gamefly so I have something else to hold my interest.

I have done several playthroughs (although most of them were promptly deleted). The one thing that stops me from starting a new game now is the thought of having to do the same things and look at the same places again.

Although I got through the game at least twice, I understand the sentiment of the OP. Even if you can ignore the problems with recycled environments, graphics, gameplay, and sidequests, the main plot is depressing. There is no sense of satisfaction, at the end. You beat the boss, hear Varric's narration, and think there has to be more...but nay.

I'm not crazy about Hawke being the hero of any more Dragon Age games, but leaving both Hawke and the Warden in the same type of story-limbo as Revan and the Exile would be way worse.
