Why can't I bring myself to do a second playthrough?

To this date I have completed 12 playthroughs of origins, currently on my 4th playthrough of the Witcher. With a heavily modded DA2, I still can't get past ACT 1 on a second playthrough there is just no incentive to continue playing it but I haven't given up Hope. I leave it to the modders to keep trying to make it a better game.
Sad because the modders will never be able to make mods as big as in DAO because of lack of toolset. If only we could get a toolset I would gladly install DAII and get to creating or modding.

I just don't see the point of playing and suffering through it again.

You have way too much time on your hands

Unless Legacy reveals itself as some awesome awe-striking add on the game will keep getting dust in the shelf.

I'm amazed by those that have over 20 playthroughs done.

I don't understand why Bioware doesn't release a toolset. (The cynic within me says they don't want to release a toolset because it might decrease sales of DLC.)

There is a lot of EA rage already, but I guess I gotta throw another log on the flames. Not releasing the toolset stinks of a purely EA move. I think they don't want to release it so that they can milk the players via "item packs" and other pay-to-use bells and whistles.
Just look at EA's "The Sims" franchise. Thankfully, there is still a toolset available in The Sims 3 but IMHO it's no where near as flexible as The Sims 2 one was. The Sims Exchange is run by EA to get people to use Sim Points to buy items. They also squeeze the life out of the franchise with their neverending "item packs" (excuse me, "stuff packs" *roll eyes*) as well. Much like DA (which has sites like dragonexus) there are still sites that have talented modders making items for free thankfully, but I suspect that EA would like nothing better than to kill the traffic on these sites so that they could turn a profit.
Yes, business is business and I personally love making money. MMmmmm money.

As for me?
I have played DA2 more than 8 times and still less than DAO, of course DAO have been out longer and is always fun to see old friends, now am playing DAO ( i hope it stop logging me off for once) and I found that getting back to it and play as amel mage is harder and is going to take me even longer that my first mage..DAO mages aren't good for me, I prefer DA2 mages.
I like DA2 and Hawke, is not perfect, has many flaws but yeah, I do like the game.

Witcher2 has some really nice combat moves characters and locations with a compelling storyline. Different kind of play style on the combat though but a far better game.

Repeated environments?
Lack of conversation with your companions?
Not feeling connected with Hawke?
There are many reasons why some people cannot bring themselves to do another playthrough of DA2. I just summed some reasons up that holds true for a large part of the playerbase. Or a small part. I honestly don't have a clue.
Exactly but I've played it 3 times now...only a major DLC or a toolset will make me want to play though it again.
No matter what you do it always ends the same.

To me, it´s that I find combat tedious: even when I´m winning easily, there comes yet another wave to kill, and that unlike the first playthrough, this time I know where the story is going, and I¨m don´t like it much.
Yeah, I find that I'll usually do additional playthroughs for two reasons: I want to try out a different character build, or I want to try to get the story to resolve in a different way. Well, the story in DA2 is going to resolve exactly the same way no matter what I do. I can't go through and try to save the Qunari prisoners. I can't grab the Tome of Koslun away from Izzy and set it on fire. I can't stop Orsino and Meredith from going insane. And I don't really care to bother with rogue or warrior--I got to mess with both classes via my companions and was forced to learn their tactics and make use of them both. If I play a rogue or a warrior, I'll still have to level up a mage and use them tactically. There's nothing *different* that I want to see.
That, and it wasn't like I struggled through the game playing a gimp mage on the first run. I stumbled upon pretty much the optimal offensive mage build right out of the gate, so it's not like I want to go back and suffer through playing a gimpy healer now. Usually the difficulty of the first playthrough (because I try out a HORRIBLE build) makes me want to play again and do a GOOD build now that I have some clue what I'm doing.
I suppose I could go through and play Hawke as a total jackass, but I don't enjoy doing that so I won't invest 20-some hours in it.
Oh well.

I wish i just stated like that, but i had to play the game 4 times, The first time is the only one i actually enjoyed, the next 3 times were just me trying to squeeze the last inch of fun i could find, cause even then, i was disappointed the first time, but no, second time was a chore with certain parts a enjoyed, third time was very difficult, but i still passed it (i'm not quiter), i gave up with the game for a week or so, then i tried it again, and the hole 4th playthrough, all i wanted to do was to kill myself, i just wanted it to end, when it did, i felt immense JOY, i litterally screamed to the Heavens:
YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!
got that damn thing out of my pc, put it in the box, went straight to my Garage, and threw that thing, it is now collecting Dust, and i have no desire of getting it out of there.
The things that i didn't like were how badly implemented some of the narrative was,the companions were mostly annoying (F**k Anders), the combat was fun at first, then it was tedious, the re-sed maps, and that God Awful Art Design.
Because Really, i'd Rather Play NeverWinter Nights SINGLEPLAYER, than Play DA2 Again.
just move on, i say, return to other games (like Dao, or ME2), just go buy new ones *Cough* The Witcher 2*Cough*, wait for other RPGs (Deus Ex, Dark Souls) or wait for the GOTY (Skyrim).

After that, I started a second playthrough as a mage, hoping that, since so much of the game revolves around the Mage/Templar conflict, that being a mage would result in a markedly different experience. Needless to say, it did not.

Yes OP, I experienced the same. I can't bear the idea of playing again anytime soon. THe first RPG to do that to me. But fortunately I was able to move on and the franchise is no longer as important to me as it was before.

That pretty much sums it up for me as well. I still love DA:O to pieces and to write FF for it, but everything after that...didn't really kept my attention. Hell, I don't even know where my DA2 gaming disc is...and frankly, I don't care.

It won't match up to my thoughts on Origins but I don't feel as bad about it as I once did. I think the trouble I had with replaying was concern over the repetition but given that I couldn't remember all the quests by the times I got back to it, it actually made the process much easier.

I just finished my first replay of DA2 and it really improved the experience for me. I played Rogue first time round and hated it, as a mage I found it much more fun. I also went into it the second time not expecting it to be Origins and that helped immensely. I still don't grade it highly but having replayed once I can see me replaying a few more times.

Oh! Me too Fiddle! I played rogue first... and hmmm. But mage was my 2nd and it was much more fun for me too (despite plot holes). I have fond memories of my mage Hawke. Might play her again with the patch.

I gotta say i'm enjoying this second one a lot more than my first one. 1.03 definitely makes combat a hell of a lot less tedious. My Hawke also seems a lot less bipolar this time round.
